Dappervolk Wiki

Celestine is an inventor and chemist residing in Aviar Cove. As a scholar and a noble, she is said to be one of the most influential people in town and has written many papers on the subject of chemistry. Currently, she is in the process of testing out prototypes for hot air balloons.

Background[]

Celestine lives in a traditional-looking manor near the town hall and comes from a long line of noble scholars.

Personality[]

Tradition bears little meaning to her, despite her family lineage. Instead she focuses on innovation and letting younger generations discover new things, frequently offering scholarships and grants.

Her family is currently abroad doing charity work. Celestine has no qualms about staying at home and enjoys the solitude.

She is greatly fascinated by the subject of pet alchemy and especially adores legendary pets.

Relationships[]

Celestine is somewhat at odds with Carneau as they share opposing beliefs: tradition versus innovation. Their relationship, however, is built upon respect rather than malice.

Chance Machine[]

Some of the items that Celestine wears can be found in her Chance Machine, "Celestine's Tea Gardens," along with an assortment of other items.

Affection Milestones[]

Celestine will send you letters after reaching certain Affection milestones.

Positive Affection
Milestone Rewards Letter
300 Affection

Dear world-hopper,

I write this letter to say thank you for all the help you have offered lately. I was taken aback when you first began regularly visiting my home, often unannounced. It’s rather different from the usual Aviar Cove formalities, which I mean as a compliment. The change is refreshing.

I’m encouraged by your interest in the sciences, as well as your willingness to share your experiences with me. I think we have a great deal we could learn from one another. I look forward to speaking more in the future.

Cordially yours,

Celestine

500 Affection

Dear world-hopper,

I have hope that this letter will reach you in a timely fashion, as I’ve requested the help of our speediest mail couriers. I have a matter of some import that I would like to discuss with you.

If you could pay me a visit at your earlier convenience, I would be very appreciative. May this letter find you at an opportune time and may you arrive safely at my doorstep.

Yours most fondly,

Celestine

P.S. I have a house guest staying with me, but they will be rather engrossed in their studies. If you wish to avoid disturbing them, please come directly to my personal laboratory when you arrive.

800 Affection

Dear world-hopper,

In my long list of letter recipients, I have finally come to your name. I cannot understate my relief. Did you know that in Aviar Cove, it is customary to send a letter to your associates once a month, if not once every other week? It is a tiresome custom, but one that I must obey in the name of social niceties and grant funding.

My one solace is that you, as a world-hopper, have no such expectations. When I write a letter to you, it is of my own volition and I may discuss whatever I wish. In this letter, that seems to be my frustrations with compulsory correspondence. I beg you forgive my impertinence.

The next time you visit, we can speak of something more engaging. Chemistry or alchemy, perhaps. As always, I remain your humble servant.

Cordially yours,

Celestine

1,100 Affection

Dear world-hopper,

How have you been faring? In my very exciting life of academic research, I spent my day organizing my study. In the process, I found one of my grandmother's first books. She must have given it as a gift to my father, as there's a small note to that effect under the dedication.

I imagine I was too young at the time to appreciate the significance of its contents. Even though I was interested in her work, I couldn't speak on the same level as a colleague. Not like I could now. It's a shame that she isn't here to see my current research. I know it is a fruitless topic to dwell on, but I sometimes wonder if she would be proud of me.

My apologies for the somber tone of this letter. I do not speak of these things to many people. It is curious that I feel so comfortable with you, despite meeting you so recently. Nevertheless, I am grateful.

Cordially yours,

Celestine

1,500 Affection

Dear world-hopper,

Although my home is rather large, I try to keep myself well-informed about who, or what, comes in and out. There are valuable heirlooms on the premises, after all. Yet unbeknownst to me, a strange item has appeared in my laboratory overnight. Namely, the gem that I have enclosed with this letter.

Having examined its chemical composition, I cannot identify anything that would explain the ability to translocate. As such, would like to entrust the magical examination to you. You've proven yourself a worthy research partner and look forward to hearing your analysis.

In the absence of conclusive results, please animate it. While I am curious as to its properties, I am just as curious to see what sort of creature it becomes. I rather like the idea of a collaborative creation between us.

Sincerely yours,

Celestine

Player Birthday (300 Affection)

Dear world-hopper,

Congratulations on your birthday. They seem to come and go so quickly, don’t they. I imagine you’re quite occupied with traveling around the world and learning more about your magic, but I hope you’ve had an opportunity to rest and celebrate. Fashionable society of Aviar Cove would throw a celebratory ball, but I’m not sure if that would be to your tastes.

Whatever your ideal celebration is, I hope you take the time to indulge yourself. Perhaps by sitting down with a favorite book and a cup of tea. Lastly, I have enclosed a small gift for the occasion. I’ve chosen to err on the side of practicality, so as not to burden you on your travels.

Cordially yours,

Celestine

Negative Affection
Milestone Rewards Letter
-400 Affection

Dear world-hopper,

I pen this letter to you with some hesitation. Normally, letters to acquaintances like yourself should be a joyful release from day to day stress, but this letter comes with a stern missive for reconciliation.

I would like to implore you to cease all manner of heckling when you visit my abode. It has become frequent enough to be somewhat aggravating. I have never encountered such behaviour from any acquaintance, Aviar Cove resident or otherwise. I hope this letter finds you in good time.

Sincerely,

Celestine

-900 Affection

Dear world-hopper,

I am almost at a loss as to what to write to you. This rarely occurs in one of my penmanship and profession. I despise treading over the line with regards to anyone’s life, however this letter may be bordering on the personal. Perhaps that is why these words are so difficult to put to paper.

I would like to ask you to cease your visits at this time, as it is abundantly clear that you have some ill will towards me. Normally, a letter correspondence would never permit this level of bluntness, but I feel that due to your nature as a traveler as well as our history, you might find solace in brevity.

So there you have it, I hope this letter reaches you in good time.

Regards,

Celestine

-1,500 Affection

Dear world-hopper,

I will be brief, as I am weary of you wasting my time. I hereby sever our acquaintanceship, never to be reconciled.

My only regret is the potential loss of knowledge, though I suspect both the potential and knowledge to be minute.

Cordially,

Celestine

Chit Chat[]

Chit-chatting with a NPC will give you a maximum of +1 Affection.per day. They will repeat the same sentences over and over but it’s a nice way of getting to know a bit more about Dappervolk and its inhabitants.

Low Affection:

  • "I wonder what it is that brings you back to my home so often. There truly is not much to see here."
  • "I am quite tempted to construct a symposium hall beside my home, so I do not need to travel to the university so often."
  • "Your pets seem to be in good health. I wonder how much your own health influences theirs, as their creator... of course, we should not test such things."
  • "Tell me of your experiments with alchemy. No subject is too small. I’d like to hear everything."

High Affection:

  • "Would that my time were not so often squandered on tea parties and soirées. Such is the price that I pay for my heritage."
  • "My research is proceeding well lately, I imagine I will have enough to collect into a paper soon. If it is not too dry for your tastes, would you like a copy of the publication?"
