You wake up in the middle of a dirt road. Your head hurts, you don't have any memory of what you were doing before you woke up, and you don't know where you are. You look around for any hints in your surroundings. A wooden sign nearby proclaims “LOUISE HILL.” You are surrounded by fields of crops, with grassy hills and what appears to be short buildings and houses in the distance.  You're too busy looking into the distance and don't notice until now that there is a bear in overalls milling about nearby. He doesn't look too dangerous or unfriendly.

  • a) Say hello.
  • b) Walk over slowly.
  • c) Wave tentatively.

Bearnard: Oh, hello. I didn’t see you there. You’re rather small, aren’t you? You’re not one of those people, are you?

  • a) Frown in confusion.
  • b) Ask him what he means

Bearnard: What do I mean, “those people?” Don’t you know what’s been going on for the past year? You lot have been dropping in out of thin air. Some of us call you world-hoppers, and there have been a lot of changes lately, not all of ‘em good.

The bear pauses, seeming to remember something unpleasant.

Bearnard: Why, just the other day all my turnips just got up and walked away. Turnips don’t regularly sprout legs and wander off! Turns out that some of you folk were up camping on the ridge nearby and half the farm crops around town just up and left. Now I’ve started putting up signs to keep people away from what’s left of my crops, but it doesn’t always work.

You glance around at the fields nearby. Some of the fields are completely barren, and look like someone has taken a parade marching through them. It sounds extraordinary, but it would seem that the bear is right and the crops truly did get up and walk away.

  • a) Make a surprised sound.
  • b) Frown skeptically.
  • c) Whistle in wonder.
  • d) Raise your eyebrows.

Bearnard: You aren’t planning on camping nearby, are you? I can give you some advice and maybe help you get straightened out a bit. Just stay off the posted fields and I’ll answer whatever questions you have. You probably don’t want to set up a camp or settle in until you have a better idea of what’s going on.

  • a) Nod.
  • b) Look at Bearnard.

Bearnard: Good, good, nothing quite like an obedient youngster, you don’t see many of those these days. Speaking of obedient, I run a small farming business here in town, a nomadic youngster like you must get hungry or need farming tools right? Just ask me later and I’ll let you into my shop! Some quality goods I have here, I’d say!

Do you have any questions to ask Bearnard?

  • a) Ask Bearnard more about Louise Hill.
    • Bearnard: Louise Hill is a farming town on the western part of this continent. We’ve had a lot of you world-hoppers showing up here lately, and most of you only stick around for a few days before moving on. I mostly farm turnips, but there’s a motley crew of villagers in this town washed up from various walks of life. Some of them… I don’t know what they’re doing here to be quite honest.
  • b) Ask Bearnard more about world-hoppers.
    • Bearnard: Now, I don’t know much about you lot, just what I’ve heard in the village and the local gossip, but apparently none of you are quite sure where you come from, and no one knows why you’re here all of a sudden. You are one of those lot right? You’re not just some wily stranger looking for handouts? At any rate, you all have some mighty strange powers moving around you. Buli across the road knows more about that, though, if you really want to know more.
  • c) Continue up the road towards the village.
    • You thank Bearnard for his time and start making your way up the road towards the village up ahead. There are quite a few different buildings, but you feel like it’s not that big of a town.
  • Continue.
Reward: 300 potatoes

You approach a little girl. She is standing outside of a rather strange house with yellow roofing and blue planks.

Buli: Oh hello, my name is Buli. You’re an animator, yes?

  • Ask what an animator is.

Buli: You don’t know? You world-hoppers have magical powers! Why do you think Bearnard’s turnips all got away? Whenever one of you is in direct contact with an item from this world for an extended period of time, it will become a living thing.

  • a) Ask how she knows about all this.
  • b) What?! What do you mean?

Buli: I wonder! You’ll probably have to make do with not knowing, especially if you want to learn how to animate things. If you put in the effort, I can show you everything I know.

  • a) Please teach me.
    • Buli: So you want to learn? It’s simple enough, but first you’ll have to do some petty thievery.
  • b) Maybe I’ll come back later.

Buli: Bearnard told you that his turnips had all walked away, right? Well, there are still a few left in his fields. You’re going to need one to work your magic, and I don’t have any. All you have to do is sneak into his field and steal a turnip. Don’t you go talking to him about this by the way! You’ll interfere with my experiments.

You think it might be a good idea to see what Bearnard has to say before you do what she says.

  • Go see Bearnard.
Unlocked: Petty Thievery (Main Quest)

You approach a little girl. She introduces herself as Buli and calls you and explains that world-hoppers like the player will animate items that are close to them for a long period of time.

Bearnard: So you’re back. Did you talk to Buli outside of the shop? She’s a little strange. Sometimes I feel like she’s even stranger than you lot. By the way, you haven’t seen anyone in my posted fields, have you? Some more turnips have gone missing.

  • a) Tell Bearnard everything.
    • Bearnard: I knew that Buli was up to no good. She’s got no respect for personal property, and there’s definitely something odd about her. How about I just give you a turnip? And tell Buli to stop telling people to steal my turnips! What does she need them for anyway?
    • He hands you a Misshapen Turnip. It looks a little squashed.
    • Bearnard: You may be thinking, “Wow, what an ugly turnip.” But it’s not the appearance that counts! This should still make a great soup base.
      • Thank him and take the turnip.
      • You figure it’s about time to go back to Buli now with your spoils.

  • b) "Nope." You say without looking him in the eyes.
    • Bearnard: Well, if you do see anyone, make sure you tell them to leave off. If I catch ANYONE in those fields, I’ll have no choice but to introduce them to my good friend here.
    • Bearnard waves his hoe.
    • Bearnard: It’s a lot of work to farm, you know, and I don’t take well to thieves.

Buli: So, did you manage to get that turnip?

  • a) Show Buli your Misshapen Turnip.
    • Buli: Oh good, you got one. It's a little runty though... Weren't there any nicer ones? Hm. You know, I have something that'll help this little one along.
  • b) Show Buli your Plump Turnip.
    • Buli: Oh, good, you got a nice, hearty one. Well done! +3 Affection with Buli
  • c) I'm still working on it...

Buli: Before we get started, I have something that'll help this little one along. Hand me your turnip for just a moment.

  • a) Give Buli your Misshapen / Plump Turnip.
  • b) Um...
    • Buli: You'll need to trust me here, world-hopper. I'll give it right back afterward.

Buli: Thank you. Now, let's see here...

Reward: Quickened Turnip

Buli disappears into her shop, only to return a few moments later with your turnip in hand. It looks to be the same turnip, but slightly different somehow…

Buli: Here you go, your bond should be strengthened with this one now. It should take substantially less time to animate, according to my- Nevermind. Let's get you started on the animation process!

Go to Account > Inventory and select "Incubate" to assign the Quickened Turnip to your avatar's Hatchery slot.

Buli: Come find me again after you've started incubating the Quickened Turnip in your Hatchery!

  • Okay!

Buli: Welcome back. Were you able to start incubating your Quickened Turnip?

  • a) Not yet... I'll get back to you on that. (pauses quest)
  • b) Yes, my Quickened Turnip is incubating now!

Rewards: 500 potatoes, +3 affection with Buli

Buli: Yep, it looks like you’ve equipped the turnip properly! All you need to do now is wait for it to come alive. You can see hatching progress by going to your Hatchery. Just make sure that you don’t unequip it before the incubation bar fills up, or you’ll have to start all over again! Be sure to come back and show me the new creature that you've animated, whenever it's ready.

In the meantime, why not ask Buli some questions?

  • a) Look at Buli expectantly.
  • b) Hesitate a little.
  • c) Shuffle forward to ask.

Buli notices your expression and turns back to you.

Buli: I guess I can answer any questions that you might have about pet care.

What would you like to ask her?

  • a) Ask about pet totems.
    • Buli: Totems are what we call items that animated creatures seem to take a shine to. They’re generally small, ornate items that are easily carried around. They seem to give boosts to certain stats when equipped to a pet depending on the totem. You’ll be able to collect totems throughout your travels and at random from various people’s chance machine shops. There are all sorts scattered throughout the world.
      • What more would you like to ask Buli?
  • b) Ask about pet food.
    • Buli: Strangely enough, the companions that world-hoppers animate don't seem to need food to survive, but they do go crazy for confectionery. Giving your pets treats may also permanently boost their stats, especially if the food matches a pet's nature! Just remember, each pet will have an appetite bar that represents how many snacks it is willing to eat per day. Some pet foods will be more filling than others, so they'll deplete your pet's appetite bar more quickly. If you'd like to get your hands on some pet foods, the more cooking-inclined townspeople sometimes offer pet foods in their shops - but I personally don’t like cooking or sweet things.
      • Do you have more questions to ask Buli?
  • c) Ask about pet moods and tasks.
    • Buli: Just like us, your animated pets will have fluctuating moods each day. Sometimes they'll be happy, sometimes mad, and sometimes pretty ambivalent. These moods affect how well they'll respond to you interacting with them, you should try it out some time! Don't be too discouraged if your pet isn't in a very good mood, giving them gifts or treats can help to improve how they're feeling that day. Oh, and before I forget - rumor has it that if a pet loves its owner enough, its appearance might change… I haven't seen it myself, but one day I'd like to. If it turns out to be true, anyway.
    • You can go to a pet's profile and click any of the action buttons below it to interact.
      • Do you have any more questions to ask Buli?
  • d) Nope, I'm ready to explore the rest of the town.

Buli: So you’re ready to get going? Well, if you want to look around Louise Hill more you should get someone to show you around! Calbet and Old Farmhand both know their ways around better than me. They like to mill around in the town tavern a little ways up the hill. Calbet is an archer and Farmhand likes to pretend he isn’t actually a wizard when he really is - if you see him, don’t bring up his outfit. Calbet and Old Farmhand don’t like each other too much though, so you should probably talk to them separately. Oh, and if you see Bearnard again… How about we keep this little turnip experiment between us? He’s so serious that he’d probably get mad about the missing turnip. It can be our little secret! Be sure to come back here once you've hatched your pet, I'd like to see it! Also, you should probably go meet the rest of the townspeople to get your bearings.

Return to Buli after you've hatched your pet and completed main quests for all six of the NPC's in Louise Hill!

  • Continue up the hill toward the town.

Full Transcript

Just outside the tavern entrance, you find a young rabbit boy fletching arrows.

Calbet: Buli sent you, didn’t she? Well, I’m glad she’s starting to finally make some sense and stopped directing people to that old man. He’s not even relevant anyways. He hasn’t lived here that long, I’m a much better guide. My name is Calbet, and I’m probably the coolest person you'll meet around these parts. I know everything about everyone and I’m the best guide there is. If anyone tells you differently, they’re just confused. Don’t listen to anything anyone says about Old Farmhand, he’s just some old quack that likes to pretend he knows more than he does.

  • a) The Old Farmhand?
  • b) Oh... uh, okay!

Calbet: That Old Farmhand likes to tell people to go to the forums, but that’s so last century. I mean who needs some old, archaic forums, right? It’s all about getting people to like you! You might’ve noticed that when you check someone out, you can see how much affection they have for you.

The NPC Diary can be accessed through the World tab.

Calbet: Helping people out or talking to them will totally make them like you more. The more positive interactions you have, the more those affection hearts will fill up! But be careful - you can lose hearts too if you say the wrong thing! Like if you said something lame such as ‘Farmhand is much wiser and more knowledgeable than you, Calbet.’ Hah, what a joke. Anyway, why don’t you go build up affection with someone by helping them out? Bearnard’s easy to please if you're a fellow turnip lover. Just get to like, 9 affection with him. Take your time, I’m not impatient or anything… Just hurry back okay? Are you done yet? If you’ve got the gusto to make Bearnard like you, I’ll show you all the cool knick-knacks in my shop.

  • a) I'm on it!
  • b) Grunt reluctantly and go.
  • c) Old Farmhand is much wiser and more knowledgeable than you, Calbet. -2 Affection

Build affection with Bearnard by completing his repeatable quest. Come back once you have 9 affection!

  • Continue.

Calbet: So, you managed to do what I asked! I’m always happy to be super helpful. You definitely wouldn’t have gotten this far if you had gone to see that old man. Aren’t you totally glad you had me to show you the way? Anyways, if you want you can check out my shop. It’s a chance machine, so you’ll get cool surprises every time. And maybe, like, if you come back later I'll have time to teach you more cool stuff. Just be sure to ignore that old Farmhand codger if you see him, got it?

  • You got it.

Prerequisites Main Quest: Meeting Calbet
Description "You talk to an old wizardly man at the tavern's back patio."
Full Transcript

On the back patio of the tavern, you find a man dressed in wizardly robes with a long, white beard.

Old Farmhand: Oh why hello there young child, I’m the Old Farmhand. I’m the well-adjusted social guide around here. Unlike that cabbage boy, Calbet, who doesn’t know anything about the social history of Louise Hill. Did you know that knowledge is the source of all things? I can teach you all the ways to connect with the people of this world. Oh, and don’t mind my outfit. People seem to think for some reason that I’m a wizard, but I definitely am not. I just like to dress up. This robe is comfortably breezy. What’s this staff? It’s just a walking stick, don’t worry about it. If you’re ready, how about we head over to look at the forums? You might meet people from all walks of life, some even as old as me. Let me know when you’re ready.

  • a) You tell him you’re ready, no point in mulling it over.
  • b) You're not feeling ready, but nod anyways.
  • c) You raise your eyebrows and say you're ready.
  • d) You're chipper and ready and let him know it.

Old Farmhand: Ah, yes, this way child. Did you know that you can post in the Forums for all to see? It’s true, you can even have entire conversations with all sorts of people. Most of your kind seems to like to use it, which is why it’s the first thing I show you when I meet one of you. Now that you know more about how communication works around here, how about you go make some posts? You could introduce yourself and meet some new friends, the forums can be almost magical in that way. Not that I would know anything about magic, since I’m not a wizard or anything. I'm sure you’ll be glad once you’ve given the forums a try. They’re much more enlightening than whatever that whippersnapper, Calbet would have you do. It’s not really magic, but it’s all very neat stuff.

  • a) Nod sagely.
  • b) Look down at your introverted feet and mutter.
  • c) Agree candidly, you love forums.
  • d) Make some assenting noises.

Old Farmhand: Why don't you try introducing yourself first if you haven't yet? If you already have, you can welcome someone else who's posting for the first time instead! If you're an introvert, have no fear! There are Forum Games in which required communication is minimal.

Mouse over COMMUNITY to get to the forums, make 2 posts. Posting in Introductions or the Forum Games subforum is recommended if you're a first timer! Replying in other topics are fine, you don't need to make your own thread.

  • a) Actually, can I please do something else? I'd rather interact with people in my own time.
    • Old Farmhand: Well, that's fair. How about you comment on a user profile instead? It can be your own actually, some people like to write little diary entries in their own profiles. I find it can be a good warm up to real social interaction, such as posting on the forums.
    • Go post on a user profile once, it can be your own!
      • Old Farmhand: I see you're back. Well, how did it go? Did you confide in yourself or did you find a friend to post a comment to?
        • I did it! (Commented 1/1)
        • Old Farmhand: Great job, you're on the road to being a scholar.
        • Old Farmhand smiles at you kindly.
  • b) Okay, I'll be right back...

Old Farmhand: You're back? How did you find it? Somewhat enlightening I hope.

The Old Farmhand wants you to post twice anywhere in the forums, replies to existing threads count!

  • a) I did it! (Posted 2/2 Times)
    • Old Farmhand: Ah, I told you that you could do it!
  • b) Hold on, I haven't done it yet.
  • c) Actually, could I do something else? I'd rather interact with people in my own time.

Old Farmhand beams at you benevolently.

Old Farmhand: Of course, with just a little guidance from yours truly, but you figured it out quite quickly! I'm sure you'll make plenty of new friends now, without ever having to interact with that rude child to send you in the wrong direction.

  • a) You mention who you met at the entrance to the tavern.
  • b) C-Calbet's not that rude.
  • c) Actually...

Old Farmhand: You already met Calbet? My condolences. Try not to pay him too much mind. If you're looking for more guidance, please feel free to come find me instead. Oh - and how about you check out my shop before you go? It's enchanted - er, I mean, it's just a carnival chance machine! Haha... They're all the rage now, you know... Ahem, just to be clear - I can't enchant things, I'm not a wizard at all. You can get a random item every time you use the shop, with no magic involved whatsoever. By the way, I heard that Bearnard is out looking for you. How about you go see what he wants?

Bearnard: That Buli is at it again, stealing my turnips! I almost caught her this time! If you see her, make sure to tell her off for me. I don't know what she's planning to do with all those vegetables, but if i know her, it's not going to be any good! By the way, I've heard that you're introducing yourself around town and making some friends. If you're feeling particularly charismatic, why not go introduce yourself to Lilia or Fantasia? They both tend to hang out around the training field on the other side of town. I'm sure they could help you specialize some of your skills, if you're interested in that sort of thing.

  • If you have at least 8 Charm: Okay.
  • If you have less than 8 Charm: I'm not feeling very charismatic at the moment...

Bearnard: Oh dear. You're not very well versed in being charismatic huh? Sometimes, in order to hang out with someone you haven't met, you have to have some nice qualities, like charm in this case! I know, since you're new here and all, why don't I teach you some things you can say to make yourself seem more charming? Here, you try a charming greeting, then I'll let you know how you did!

  • a) A-ahem, sirs or madams, good morrow! +4 Charm
  • b) H-hello... um, Prince Charming is here! That's me! +4 Charm
  • c) You must be an angel because I've never seen anyone like you before. +4 Charm
  • d) A delightful day, is it not? I like violins and sunshine. +4 Charm

Bearnard: Oh that's uh, that's great! To be honest with you, I'm not much of an expert on what's charming or not, I'm just a humble farmer... but you did get some good practice in right? Now go use that new found charm on those two that I mentioned! They both tend to hang out around the training field on the other side of town. I believe in you!

Full Transcript

In the training field, you come across a resolute lancer and a shrewd-looking rogue. The lancer stabs vigorously at a straw dummy, completely focused on her training. The rogue watches her quietly from the sidelines, leaning on the fence.

  • a) Approach the rogue.
    • Fantasia: Hello there, I heard you coming down the road. Are you here to watch Lilia train? I practice here too, though Lilia’s much more diligent about it. She’s very elegant. But you look a little rough around the edges, like you’ve been crawling through the dirt. Did Buli talk you into stealing turnips for her? She never seems to have enough turnips.
    • The lancer strides across the field toward you.
    • Lilia: Good day, and welcome to Louise Hill. I don’t think we’ve met before - I’m Lilia. You do look a little worse for wear.
  • b) Approach the lancer.
    • Lilia: Good day! I'm Lilia. You must be new around here. Most folk worry about disturbing me while I'm training. It's no trouble, though. How is Bearnard doing?
      • How did you know Bearnard sent me?
        • Lilia: Your clothes - you look like you've been out in the fields... You must feel a bit scattered. I can never concentrate if my clothes are too worn.
        • The rogue hops over the fence and ambles over to you.
        • Fantasia: I heard you coming down the road - I was wondering if you were going to talk to us. I'm Fantasia. Judging by your outfit, you're here for fashion advice. Don't worry, we're both pretty knowledgeable.
  • c) Watch from afar.
    • The lancer switches elegantly between stances, handling her lance like it’s as light as a feather. After a while, she pauses to catch her breath.
    • Fantasia: That was even better than your last set.
    • Lilia: It was passable. But still not enough.
    • Fantasia: Are you sure you’re not being too hard on yourself?
    • Lilia: If anything, I’m not being hard enough.
    • Fantasia: Oh - it looks like we have a visitor. Hello there. I don’t think I’ve seen you around before.
    • Lilia: Welcome to Louise Hill. I’m Lilia, and this is Fantasia. Did Bearnard send you to look for us?
      • Yes, how did you know?
        • Fantasia: You look like you’ve been crawling through the fields. I bet Bearnard made you help with his crops.
      • Lilia: You do look a little worse for wear.

You glance down at yourself furtively.

  • a) Is it really that bad?
    • Lilia: Don't fret - just like in training, a little hard work goes a long way. Do you know where to find your wardrobe?
  • b) Can you help me find nicer clothes?
    • Lilia: Yes, of course. Do you know where to find your wardrobe?

Go to Account > Wardrobe to update your outfit!

  • Continue.

Lilia: A fresh change of clothes is invigorating if I've been working hard.

Fantasia: Relaxing is just as important as hard work. Coordinating the perfect outfit always helps me unwind. That's a difficult task with just one layer of clothing to work with. Here - take this..

  • Continue.

Reward: Wardrobe Drawer Expansion

Wardrobe Expansions unlock an additional layer slot in the category of your choice in your wardrobe. Use the item from Account > Inventory. You can also save your favourite outfits in the Wardrobe and sort your clothing order to re-layer your look. Try it out!

Fantasia: We're getting there, but it's still missing something… Oh, I know - whose style do you like better?

  • a) Lilia, the Lancer!
    • Fantasia nods in agreement.
    • Fantasia: Lilia always picks such dignified, functional outfits.
  • b) Fantasia, the Rogue!
    • Lilia smiles and nods in agreement.
    • Lilia: Fantasia always has a keen eye for practical fashion.

Fantasia: Finding your style is just as important in fashion as it is in combat. Maybe you should try a few different things? If you collect a good variety of clothing, you're bound to find something you like.

Lilia: You should come see us once you've had a look around. We'll be here training in the meantime.

Go spin any Chance Machine 2 times!

  • Okay, I'll be back!

Lilia is now watching Fantasia throw some daggers with expert precision at targets a few leagues away.

Fantasia: Oh, I hit that one right in the middle.

Lilia: You're amazing!

Fantasia blushes and turns away.

Spin any Chance Machine 2 times to continue.

  • a) Leave for now.
  • b) I'm back! I got new things. (Gacha'd 2/2 Times)

Lilia: You look refreshed. I'm sure your mind feels clearer now too.

Fantasia: Did you get a good look at all of the shops? I wouldn't mind giving you a tour of the town. I know it pretty well- I usually go shopping for Lilia too, since she's always training. And I need to run an errand anyway.

Lilia: You may also stay here with me, if you'd like - it's nice to have company while I train.

  • a) Go with Fantasia. (Starts "A Stroll with Fantasia")
  • b) Stay with Lilia. (Starts "A Chat with Lilia")

Fantasia wanders down the road into town as Lilia picks up her lance again.

Lilia: ...May I ask you something?

  • a) What is it?
  • b) Yes, please ask!

Lilia: I know we’ve only just met, but I have a request for you - I apologize if I’m imposing. Today is Fantasia’s birthday. Mine as well, but that’s irrelevant - I want to get them a special present. I heard them muttering under their breath in front of the Old Farmhand’s shop the other day. When I looked over, I saw they were gazing at that shiny Apprentice Teapot. I’m sure they’d be happy if I got it for them. Unfortunately I don’t have the best luck… and since everyone is enamored with carnival-style shops, it would be difficult to win. Do you think maybe you could win it for me? I don’t have much in the way of payment, but I can offer you my tiara. It’s been in my family for generations, and it’s very dear to me… but it’s all I have to trade, and I’d really like to get my friend this present. I can imagine Fantasia drinking tea with their favorite set of Fantastical Bells chiming in the breeze, relaxing without a care in the world. I want very much to make that image come true. Fantasia has a sixth sense about this sort of thing, so you’d have to keep away from them. If you can do that, will you help?

You sense that this decision is a fork in the road and will decide something important.

Do you want to help Lilia with Fantasia's gift?

  • a) Sure, I’d be happy to help!
    • Lilia: That’s very kind of you. I won’t forget this favor. I’m going to keep training, but you can bring the Apprentice Teapot here once you’ve won it. I’ll gladly trade away my tiara to make Fantasia happy.
      • Leave.
  • a) I’ll need to think about it.
    • Lilia: I understand. I don’t know when Fantasia will be back, but please let me know before they return.
    • Go into town.
      • Fantasia waves at you as you walk into town.
      • Fantasia: I was hoping you’d stop by.
      • Fantasia glances behind them briefly.
      • Fantasia: I actually have a favor to ask, if I may. [continues as in "A Stroll with Fantasia"]

On your way into town to find an Apprentice Teapot, you notice a familiar pointy blue hat in the crowd. The Old Farmhand spots you as well and strolls over to you.

Old Farmhand: Hello there, young one, doing some shopping?

  • I'm looking to get an Apprentice Teapot for Lilia.

Old Farmhand: Ah! A popular item of mine these days, especially with the youngsters. It's quite difficult to get them currently due to the demand. I do have a tip for you about that, did you know that you can combine items together to create new ones? It's called Item Alchemy and appears to be a world-hopper talent. There are certain recipes you can find that tell you how to create special items, it just so happens that I have a recipe for this Apprentice Teapot. Well, how about it? I believe the recipe like many others, calls for conecakes. It appears as though your magic reacts to the way differently coloured objects are combined. Just my wild guess, of course.

The Old Farmhand retrieves a shiny scroll from his billowing sleeves and presents it to you with a flourish.

  • Thank you, Farmhand!

Reward: Apprentice Teapot Recipe

Lilia: Were you able to win the Apprentice Teapot from the Old Farmhand?

  • a) Here you go!
  • b) I’ll come back later.

Reward: Stoic Tiara

Lilia: I knew you could do it. I’m so grateful that you helped. This tiara belongs to you now. I hope you treat it well.

Fantasia: Sorry that took so long. Hold on - that's…!

Lilia: Yes. It’s the teapot you wanted, and now it’s yours.

Fantasia: How did you know that I wanted it? I didn’t say anything about it.

Lilia: You didn’t need to - I saw the way you looked at it. It was worth trading my tiara to see you so happy.

Fantasia: You gave away your tiara? Why? I can’t believe you even noticed me eyeing the teapot. You’re always so serious about your training, I wouldn’t expect you to pay such close attention to me.

Lilia: Of course I noticed. You’re the reason I train so hard, Fantasia. I want to be worthy. Worthy of….

Fantasia: Lilia… You know, I actually had a plan to trade my Fantastical Bells for that jug you were admiring. But with my rotten luck…

Lilia: Oh, no - I would have hated to see you without your bells. They’re so dear to you.

Fantasia: Not as dear as… erm, this lovely new teapot. I hope you’ll drink the first cup I brew in it.

Fantasia and Lilia seem happily caught up in their conversation… You should probably give them some privacy. Has your pet hatched by now? You should go and show Buli.

  • Go see Buli.

You walk down the road with Fantasia. They seem a little distracted.

  • a) Where are we headed?
  • b) Are you okay?

Fantasia glances behind them briefly.

Fantasia: I actually have a favor to ask, if I may.

  • a) A favor?
  • b) Oh? What is it?
  • c) Ask away!

Fantasia: Today's Lilia's birthday- and mine, too. We always celebrate together. But she always pushes herself so hard, and she's kind of tough on herself, especially lately… I just feel like she deserves something extra nice this year, you know?

  • a) Do you have something in mind?
  • b) D-do you know what she likes?
  • c) That's exciting, I love planning gifts.

Fantasia: A while ago I finally managed to drag her out of the training fields into town. She's normally very stoic about this sort of thing, but I noticed her eyes sparkling at something in Buli's shop front. It was an Essence Jug- the blue essence sparkled in her eyes so beautifully. Ahem, mostly because it matches her tiara so well - that tiara is a family heirloom, so it means a lot to her. I know she'd love to have that jug, but I don't really have the potatoes to spend spinning Buli's chance machine over and over. Do you think you could try to get it for me? Maybe you'll have better luck. I know that's a lot to ask, but… if you can get it, I'll give you my Fantastical Bells in exchange. Their sound is the most soothing thing in the world. They mean a lot to me, but… well, Lilia means more. What do you say? You'd have to avoid Lilia- I wouldn't want you to spoil the surprise. But I'd really appreciate the help.

You sense that this decision is a fork in the road and will decide something important.

Do you want to help Fantasia with Lilia's gift?

  • a) Sure I'd love to help!
    • Fantasia: Thank you. The radiance of her smile will more than make up for trading my bells away. I’ll wait here - I’ll give you the bells once you’ve gotten the Essence Jug.
      • Leave.
  • b) Let me think about it.
    • Fantasia: If you decide to, just come back before I head back to the training field. I have a few people to talk to here - you go ahead.
      • Continue onto the fields. [continues as in "A Chat with Lilia"]

Lilia: There you are, Fantasia. Are you ready to go? Wait- that Essence Jug…

Fantasia: It’s yours now. Happy birthday, Lilia.

Lilia: Oh…! I… I don’t know what to say, Fantasia. Thank you. Let’s go celebrate. You can hang your bells nearby- it’ll be the perfect soothing atmosphere.

Fantasia: Actually… I had to give up the bells to get the jug. But it was worth it.

Lilia: What? You shouldn’t have done that. You love those bells more than anything. More than any "thing," maybe… A-ah… To be honest, I was planning to sell my tiara if it meant getting you that Apprentice Teapot. But my luck at those chance machines is abysmal…

Fantasia: Heh. That would’ve been quite a sight, huh? Both of us giving away our favorite items… But I’m glad you got to keep your tiara. And I hope you like the jug. They both look dazzling beside you.

Buli: Oh, I see that you're back. Do you need something?

  • a) I hatched the Quickened Turnip! (Hatched 1/1 Times)
  • b) Nope, just waiting for this pet to hatch.
    • Buli: Well come back when it does hatch!
      • Leave.

You show Buli your new pet.

Buli: Oh, you did it! Wasn't it worth the wait? Perhaps now I can trust you with... some more powerful knowledge about your latent world-hopper abilities.

Buli pauses for a moment to look you over once more, seemingly evaluating her judgement of you.

Buli: Hm... One moment, I have something to show you.

She briskly walks off, disappearing behind her shop desk. All you can hear is the shuffling of papers until she emerges once more with some type of book in hand. It looks like it could be a journal…

Buli: Before I let you in on more complicated things about world-hopper magic, this here will be a good place to start. It's yours to keep.

Buli hands you the journal, it has the words Pet Diary on the front cover.

Buli: I jotted down the basic information about the first pet you animated in there for you. The rest will be up to you to fill in as you utilize your world-hopper powers to animate new and unusual creatures along your journeys. New types of creatures that you animate yourself can be recorded directly into your diary from firsthand experience. However, if you come across a new companion in other ways, you'll want to be sure to spend some time with it to observe it before recording it.

Pets that you hatch on your account will be recorded into your Pet Diary immediately, while pets that are hatched by other players must reach a certain affection level with you before they will be recorded. To access your Pet Diary at any time, go to World > Pet Diary.

Buli: Now that you've got a place to record your findings, I think you're ready to be introduced to something more complicated and more powerful.

Buli disappears from your view once again, this time slipping behind a door located in the back of her shop. You can vaguely make out some clinking sounds coming from within the room, before she reappears with a mysterious looking large, bronze pot in her hands.

  • a) Crane your neck to catch a glimpse of what's behind her.
    • She closes the door behind her quickly with her foot, as she hauls the pot over toward you and sets it on the floor.
  • b) Fold your arms skeptically.
    • She closes the door behind her quickly with her foot, as she hauls the pot over toward you and sets it on the floor.
  • c) Offer to help her carry the unwieldy object.
    • Buli: There's no need for that, I've got it. Just stay right there.
    • She closes the door behind her quickly with her foot, as she hauls the pot over toward you and sets it on the floor.

Buli: As you can probably tell, this is a cauldron of sorts. From what I've been able to gather, this will be necessary for you to continue discovering new and more powerful creatures with your world-hopper magic. I obviously haven't been able to try it myself, but rumor has it that world-hoppers can combine the life energies of different pets into an even stronger, single form. People in-the-know have been calling it Pet Alchemy, and there's talk of Fantastical and even Legendary rarities of creatures that can be alchemized in this way! I've also heard that pets raised in different types of Menagerie settings can affect the result of your alchemy - but of course that's something you'll have to test out for yourself. Any new creatures that you alchemize can be jotted down in your Pet Diary as well. Whenever you have time, you should try it out and see what you can create with it.

To access Pet Alchemy, go to Account > Pet Alchemy. Alchemy recipes can be discovered randomly or through the use of a recipe scroll. Successfully discovered recipes will be automatically stored in your Pet Recipes Book, located on the Pet Alchemy page, for future reference.

Buli: So, that’s it! I’ve shown you everything that I know. You should be ready to explore the world and hone your abilities now.

  • a) ...Explore?
    • Buli: Yes. Exploring... You know, looking around to find new things and meet new people?
    • Buli stares at you questioningly.
  • b) Teach me about exploring too!
    • Buli: Teach you? Pets are my area of interest, I don't have any expertise in exploration or what have you.
  • c) You only talked about pets though...
    • Buli: Well this is my area of interest. I don't really have an obligation to guide you on every aspect of this world, do I?

Buli: If you want to know more about exploring, you could go talk to Fantasia. I've heard that they're well-traveled. Anyway, I need to get back to my work. See you, world-hopper!

  • Leave to find Fantasia.

You're skipping along leisurely, on your way to Fantasia and Lilia's house when suddenly, a blur of green hurtles into your view, catapulting out of the bushes lining the side of the road. You blink in confusion as you collide into…

  • ...Calbet?

Calbet: Ahh man! I was so close!! Oh, it's you! World-hopper! I've been running around the countryside trying to catch grasshoppers, but they're so quick!

  • a) Why are you doing that?
    • Calbet: It's the latest cool thing kids are doing in town, didn't you know?
  • b) What's a grasshopper?
    • Calbet: You know, green... springy legs? ...Seriously? Guess you really don't remember anything from before huh? Well, that's fine... It's the latest cool thing kids are doing in town, didn't you know?

Calbet: I invented the hobby, grasshopper catching! We let them go afterwards of course. People have totally joined in by now, I'll bet.

  • a) Oh... I'll uh, bet.
    • Calbet: Aww, you're not gonna join me? It's fun I promise, and also an opportunity to finally be cool!
  • b) I was just on my way to Fantasia's...
    • Calbet: Aww, you're not gonna join me? It's fun I promise, and also an opportunity to finally be cool!
    • Alright, fine.
  • c) Can I catch some with you?

Calbet: Really?! ...I mean, yeah of course! Duh. Anyways, the trick is to focus and find the green, within the green! Then you just cup it with your hands, don't be grossed out they don't bite.

You follow Calbet's intricate instructions and try to spot any green grasshoppers lurking in the tall, also green, grass.

  • a) Look around impatiently.
    • You traipse around in the tall grass, pouncing at anything that moves. After a good long while, the sunlight changes to an orange gold hue, and a distant bird caws. You look around, and all you have to show off are grass stains, a couple of mosquito bites, and Calbet in a huff.
    • Calbet: ...Man! These little guys sure are elusive huh?
  • b) Crouch low and stay still.
    • You decide that stealth is the best way to catch wily creatures, so you hunker down and squint into the field, looking for any sign of movement. You squint so intently that you end up slowly closing your eyes, sleepiness overtakes you…
    • You sink into a vast blueness, hurtling across the sky towards the ether. A distant spark calls to you with a series of pings... Imploring you to return to the node. You try to make out what it's saying…
    • Calbet: ...up! Wake up!! You should have just told me if you were going to take a nap! I had to do all the work here!

  • ...Do grasshoppers even exist?

Calbet: Of COURSE they do!! I even read about them in a book somewhere! I... I just know they exist!

  • a) You don't sound very convinced...
  • b) Hm...
  • c) Nod placatingly.

Calbet: A-anyways. I guess it's getting late, ahhhh and we have nothing to show for it! How am I going to explain this to my people?

Calbet grabs fistfuls of his hair in anguish.

Calbet: … Oh, I know! I bet if we win a lot of stuff at the Playground, people in town will be too distracted by our glory to remember the grasshopper fiasco! Let's go!!

  • a) Fine, if you insist.
  • b) I guess I have no choice...

Calbet: Alright, here we go! Why don't we each go play some of these games and earn some nice scores? I heard you can get potatoes and gifts too if you score high enough. Last one done is a funky egg!

Play 5 rounds of any Playground game and return to Calbet. You can check how much of the daily maximum you've earned through the Playground by mousing over the Potato and Gift icons in the second navigation menu.

  • I’m off.

Calbet is furiously, albeit clumsily attempting every game in the Playground when you check up on him.

  • a) I'm all done, beat that. (Played Game 5/5 Times)
  • b) Go play games.

Calbet: Whoa! Done already? Did you get a nice high score?

Calbet is busy looking at your high scores when he suddenly looks up, seeming to remember something.

Calbet: Oh man, I forgot! Today was kitchen duty!! Aww man, everyone's going to be so mad and hungry when I go back. Here, take my winnings, I gotta go light if I want to run back before dinner ends!

Calbet shoves a pile of stuff into your arms and turns tail, darting speedily into the horizon, back to the Inn. You wonder where all his energy comes from.

  • Go visit Fantasia as you planned.
Rewards: Plump Turnip, Green Chocoglaze Conecake, 256 Potatoes

Unlocked: Back to Fantasia (Main Quest)

You run into Calbet on your way to Fantasia, who claims to be catching grasshoppers.

  • a) Why are you doing that?
  • b) What's a grasshopper?

Calbet: "I invented the hobby, grasshopper catching! We let them go afterwards of course. People have totally joined in by now, I'll bet."

  • a) Oh... I'll uh, bet.
  • b) I was just on my way to Fantasia's...
  • c) Can I catch some with you?

He invites you to catch some with him.

  • a) Look around impatiently.
  • b) Crouch low and stay still.

You fall asleep and see a mysterious vision. After being woken up, you express doubt that "grasshoppers" even exist.

Calbet: "Of COURSE they do!! I even read about them in a book somewhere! I... I just know they exist!"

  • a) You don't sound very convinced...
  • b) Hm...
  • c) Nod placatingly.

He convinces you to play some games at the Playground.

  • a) Fine, if you insist.
  • b) I guess I have no choice...

Play 5 rounds of any Playground game and return to Calbet.

Realizing he's running late, he gives you what he won before running off.

You're a dmittedly a little exhausted by the time you finally arrive at Fantasia and Lilia's usual training fields. It's been a bit of a long day. You look around for any sign of the pair, but no one appears to be around.

  • Try Fantasia's House.

Past the training dummies and targets, near the edge of the meadow is a wooden house. You knock hesitantly and hear a muffled voice reply.

Fantasia: Come in! Ah, it's the new world-hopper again. You faring well with getting your bearings?

  • a) It's all kind of confusing.
    • Fantasia: Don't worry, you'll get the hang of it soon, our town's residents are mostly known to be quite helpful. Competitively helpful at times, even. Ah, but there may be things you haven't discovered yet.
  • b) I think I'm doing ok.
    • Fantasia: That's great. It's nice to see someone so confident despite not knowing much about their purpose or surroundings. Ah, but there may be things you haven't discovered yet.
  • c) I'm not sure where to go.
    • Fantasia: Don't worry, you'll get the hang of it soon, our town's residents are mostly known to be quite helpful. Competitively helpful at times, even. There are likely some things you haven't discovered yet.

Fantasia: For instance, have you tried exploring the countryside yet? The locals like to accost people with riddles. It's a bit surprising at first but Lilia happens to love riddles so I've warmed up to the concept. How about it, do you want to give it a try? It shouldn't take too long to meet a local. Let's go now!

  • a) Sure, I'll tag along.
  • b) Reluctantly agree.

An endless expanse of fields and greenery greets you as you begin your stroll with Fantasia.

Fantasia: Now, all we need to do is travel along at our own pace and chat with people along the way. Sometimes you might even meet charitable individuals or other mysterious things.

Try Adventuring and answer one riddle correctly. Read the instructions below the game for additional clarity. If you haven't selected your sprite for the first time yet, do so now.

  • I'm off to adventure!

Fantasia is whistling as they stroll, they appear to be familiar with some of the locals already. Try Adventuring and answer one riddle correctly. Read the instructions below the game for additional clarity.

  • a) I answered one! (Riddled 1/1 Times)
  • b) Continue strolling.

Fantasia: Well, what did you think? Interesting, right? Sometimes when I get too cooped up in town, I come out here to get some exercise and clear my head. Let's go back to my home, you can join me for tea if you'd like.

You follow Fantasia along the path back to their house. They put a pot of water on to boil and you stand around admiring their rustic wooden furniture.

Fantasia: How do you like your tea? I have-

The door suddenly bursts open and Lilia enters, looking excited.

Lilia: Fantasia! You wouldn't believe- Oh, you have company! Ahem, hello world-hopper.

  • a) Hello.
    • Lilia: Apologies for my hasty intrusion without knocking, I hope I didn't startle you. Are you well?
    • Fantasia: We just went Adventuring for a little bit, they didn't know about the riddles.
    • Lilia: Oh, a good pastime if I do say so myself. Some of those riddles can be so tricky though!
    • Fantasia: What were you about to tell me when you came in?
  • b) What's happened?

Lilia: Ah, I almost forgot! I was planning to tell Fantasia about how I trained the right qualities today.

Fantasia: That's good news. Did you improve your tenacity as much as you needed?

Lilia: Yes! I managed to get past that hurdle I was struggling with. Oh, world-hopper. You might not know what I mean. Would you like to come see the daily training area?

  • a) Sure.
  • b) Okay.

Lilia: So, this is where you can get rewarded and improve yourself for doing various things in our world. You can improve your qualities such as tenacity and that should help you deal with different situations and people.

Fantasia: Yeah, or sometimes you need to be extra charming to persuade someone who's being stubborn. Why don't you give it a try? We'll wait here.

Complete any one daily potato task. You can select a stat that you wish to train from the daily stat boost tasks and get additional tasks to do. The daily login bonuses can be claimed if you visit each day.

  • Okay, I'll do it!

Fantasia is waiting near a building, idly chatting with Lilia and chuckling quietly every once in a while.

  • a) I've tried it out now. (Quested 1/1 Times)
  • b) Leave.

Fantasia: Great, I hope you were well rewarded for your efforts.

Lilia beams in agreement.

Fantasia: You've traveled through most of Louise Hill now haven't you? I expect you've met a few of the people who live here too, like us. Would you like to know about other regions?

Lilia: Fantasia is well traveled, they'll be able to answer your questions!

  • a) How do I get to other places?
    • Fantasia: You can only travel to other regions a few times a day. Right now, since you've just started out here I imagine you're not a seasoned traveler yet. This means that you can only go to a few places before needing to wait until the next day in order to travel more. This can get tricky later if you want to travel to many places in order to see your friends there, but your experience with traveling should also go up once you explore more towns. I've also heard that you can gain a free pass to travel more in a day if you Adventure frequently! Would you like to know about anything else?
  • b) What kinds of other places are out there?
    • Fantasia: There is a mysterious forest and some mountains to the east. South of Louise Hill, you'll reach the coast, something notable that you might find is a trading port near the southern coast that's easily accessible by all travelers.
    • Lilia: The roads to the port are frequented by many traders and caravans! We think this might be why Peddler's Port is such an easy place to reach, despite the distance.
    • Fantasia: You're right Lilia. World-hopper, I would give you the advice of traveling there and seeing the sights, there are all sorts of peddlers and people from distant lands. I wonder if the people at the port remember me… ...Anyways, do you have any other questions?
  • c) I've learned enough.

Fantasia: We're glad to be of help! Did you have somewhere to be? I think I've kept you for long enough.

Lilia: That reminds me, I believe Bearnard was looking for you earlier. Maybe you should pay him a visit. Take care, world-hopper!

  • See you later.

  • Return to Bearnard +3 Affection

Bearnard: I hear you’ve helped out a lot of people around town. Mighty nice of you, you know. I treated you suspiciously at first but it seems like I owe you an apology. You’ve made some good friends here, haven’t you? I know you’ve just gotten used to being in town with us, but I hear there’s been trouble over in Three’s Forest. A good friend and long-time customer of mine is right smack dab in the middle of it. So I was hoping that you might be able to help them out like you helped us. If you decide to go, you should be careful though... The forest is a lot less friendly than us here in Louise Hill. The word out of the forest is that there’s some witches causing each other problems. Since you worked so well between the residents here, I hope your diplomacy might help them. There’s also a rumor going around that the forest may hold some clues about whatever strange magic sent you lot here, but I don’t know for sure. If you’re curious, it might be worth looking in to. Just be careful out there, you hear? You can always come back to Louise Hill to see us again. I’m not much for all this excitement, but it’s nice to have someone else around with a level head on their shoulders.

  • a) Thank him and promise to return.
  • b) Say goodbye awkwardly.
  • c) Thank him profusely, a little teary eyed.
  • d) Shake hands with Bearnard and beam.

You have completed Louise Hill and unlocked the Three’s Forest! Check the world map to continue your journey.
