Three's Forest is the second available town after Louise Hill. Questing in the forest can get tricky with the witches at first, since you can only be loyal to one at a time, so keep that in mind when completing quests. Quests have been condensed for readability. Trout the Sprout

Quest Information
Speak With Trout
Prerequisites Main Quest: Back to Bearnard
Description "You finally reach the forest, and stumble upon a sprout."
Full Transcript

You arrive at the entrance to Three’s Forest - marked by a large ornate sign with dark metal furnishings. In the distance, the forest quickly goes from pleasantly forested to dark and densely overgrown. As you approach the sign to enter the forest, you trip over something.

Trout: Hey! Watch where you’re going, you almost trampled me! Look, you’ve gone and stepped all over my turnips, you oaf! It took ages to get those planted. Oh, what am I going to do now? Those were the last I had!

  • a) Apologize profusely. +5 Affection
    • Trout: Well, at least you were polite about knocking me over. I know I’m short and easy to miss…
  • b) Grunt an apology.

Trout: I’m Trout, by the way. I live here on the edge of the forest and grow turnips. Or, well, I used to grow turnips. Lately, the forest has been changing, and my turnips won’t grow! I’m going to perish since they’re my only food source. They’re where I get my life energy from, I’m a sprout, you see. There’s something horribly wrong going on in the forest, but I can’t leave my fields to go check it out. The seedling turnips require almost constant supervision now, otherwise they won’t grow. But now you’ve gone and trampled my seedlings! Before I tell you what I know about the current state of the forest, could you please help me? I need to get some turnips to replace my seedlings, but I’m too frail and slow to make the journey. Could you get me a few turnips? You’ve got longer legs and a quicker stride. I’m sure you’ll find a way.

  • a) Agree to help, it’s the least you could do.
  • b) Pat his head a little and assure him you'll be right back.
  • c) Make an impatient noise but agree.

Trout: Thank you, thank you! I’ll be here, anxiously waiting. Don’t worry about me though, being anxious is my specialty.

Obtain 3 Plump Turnips from Louise Hill or by playing the mini games. Return to Trout once you have them!

  • Continue (Requires 3 plump turnips)

Reward: 300 Potatoes

Trout: That was quick! Thank you for replacing my seedlings. It’s been nearly impossible to grow anything since the forest started getting darker and darker. It’s like there’s some sort of malevolent force taking over the area. The air has become rank and the water has gone sour with rot. Even the plants in the forest have changed. There are all sorts of horrible mushrooms and thorns that are choking out the native trees and ferns. The flowers are strange too - the meadow in the forest used to be nice, but it feels sinister now. Everything is trying to outgrow everything else, and it feels like the forest is almost at war with itself! Not even the animals stick around for very long. It’s all very concerning, and it’s ruining my crops. I wanted to move out to Louise Hill, but I can’t just leave. This has been my home for my entire five seasons, and it’s my duty to bring more sprouts into the world. I wish there was something to be done about the invading plants, though. You’re brave and more powerful than I am, aren’t you? You’re one of those traveler-types! How about you go into the forest and pluck out some of the thorns, mushrooms, and flowers to thin out their numbers? That would definitely help!

  • a) That definitely won’t help, but you inquire further anyways.
  • b) Nod enthusiastically.
  • c) You wonder if it would help...

Trout: Oh I’m so glad you decided to help, all you have to do is play the 3’s Forest Cleanup two times!

Go to World > Playground and click on the 3’s Forest Cleanup Mini Game to begin. Come back once you’ve played 2 rounds.

  • Continue. (Requires 2 plays of 3's Forest Cleanup) (Played Game 0/2 Times)

Trout: Well, there doesn’t seem to be much of a difference, but you did try. You’re pretty good at running these kinds of errands, aren’t you? Well, now that you’ve helped out, I guess you can use my shop! I stock all sorts of knick-knacks here, I made them myself you know. I’ll also give you a bit of advice - How about you go talk to Irin? They’re a really nice friend to the sprouts and sprites of the forest and I’m sure they can point you in the right direction if you’re wanting to explore a bit. Here, take this with you so Irin knows you’re a friend.

You receive the item “Seedling.”

  • Take the seedling.

Trout: Just watch out while you’re out there, you hear? There’s something mysterious going on in the forest.

As you wander through the forest looking for Irin, you stumble upon an open meadow. There seems to be someone there...

Barclay: No, that isn’t right either. If you would just hold still…

  • a) Hello?
  • b) You step on a branch by accident.
  • c) Clear your throat.
  • d) Walk towards them tentatively.

Barclay: Oh!

They sit up, startled, dropping a tiny rabbit half-wearing a lacy cape. The rabbit races off into the forest, dragging the cape along behind it.

Barclay: Now look what you’ve done! It took me days to make that cape just right!

  • a) Oops?
  • b) My condolences.
  • c) S-sorry.

Barclay: Just who are you, anyway? I don’t think I’ve seen you before - and I’d remember someone who looked like you. Oh! I bet Glume sent you to ruin my plans. Or was it Mycel? Well, whichever it was, you tell them to stop bothering me or I’ll have to do something mean!

You have no idea what they're talking about, but you decide to nod just to be safe and continue on your way...

As you continue along on your search for Irin, you find yourself lost in a dense part of the forest covered in glowing mushrooms. As your eyes adjust to the darkness, you notice a figure tending to a patch of these mysterious glowing fungi...

Mycel: Oh my. What a beautiful illusion you are… …Wait. Those eyes… are you real?

  • a) I think so.
  • b) Maybe I'm just a figment of your imagination?
  • c) Of course I'm real...

Mycel: I see… How did you get past my enchantments? Most intruders are easily ensnared by glowshroom glamour… except other magic users... Are you a world-hopper? Or - another witch, come to steal my secrets?

  • a) Yes, I think I’m a ‘world-hopper.’
  • b) I’m not here to steal anything.

Mycel: But that’s exactly what you would say if you were after my secrets… Well, you won’t get a single peep of my experiment. Take those treacherous eyes away from here - go steal from Glume or Barclay instead.

You still haven't the slightest idea of what she's talking about, but you figure it'd be best to leave instead of staying to ask...

After wandering through the forest for some time, the mushrooms gradually disappear, seemingly swallowed up by tangles of poisonous looking vines. You carefully continue on, wondering if you'll ever find this Irin character that Trout told you about. Until you come upon a clearing where the vines seem to have given way to the presence of a mysterious tent. No one seems to be around, but you can't shake the feeling of impending danger... You nearly jump out of your shoes when a voice speaks from just beyond the curtained door of the tent.

Glume: You’re surprisingly unafraid for someone who’s wandered into my home uninvited… you do know who I am, don’t you?

  • a) No?
  • b) You must be Glume.
    • Glume: If you know, it makes even less sense that you marched in so brazenly.

Glume: Someone so clueless could only have been sent by one of them. Too scared to face me themselves, I’m sure.

  • a) Them?
  • b) Who's scared?
  • c) One of who?

Glume: You don’t need to play any dumber than you already are. Tell Mycel and Barclay that such interruptions will not be tolerated. Now make yourself scarce. I’m not interested in hearing anything you have to say.

She shuts her door in your face before you even have a chance to reply. You best keep moving, Irin has to be around here somewhere...

After what feels like an eternity of wandering through the forest without the slightest idea of where you were going, you come upon a glade that seems rather peaceful. You notice yet another figure in the distance, who is quietly observing the tiny fluttering lights among the trees. You decide to approach them, wondering if you've finally stumbled upon Irin...

Irin: Just what do you think you’re doing here?! You’re scaring off all the sprites! Don’t you know this forest is dangerous? You’d better make yourself scarce, and fast!

As they try to shoo you away from the glade, you recall that Trout mentioned something about Irin being a friend of the sprites... If the fluttering lights in the glade are sprites, this must be Irin! You will need the Seedling that Trout gave you to convince Irin that you are a friend of the forest.

  • a) Show them your Seedling.
  • b) Leave the glade. (pause quest)

Unlocked: Irin's Daily Errands

Irin: Oh, that charm… you got it from Trout, didn’t you? Sorry - lately there have been a lot of strangers causing trouble in the forest… and we have enough trouble already, with those selfish witches! But if you helped Trout, you must be on our side. I protect the sprites and the sprouts that live here.

  • a) Protect them? From what?
  • b) What's happening to them?

Irin: Travelers used to treat us with respect - but once the witches began quarreling, travelers started ignoring the forest’s customs. They stomp around, and gawk… and some of them even harm sprites, like that no-good Magdalene. She traps them in her lanterns, then sells them for her own selfish gain! Once a sprite leaves the forest, it can never come back… they’re trapped for the rest of their lives, enslaved to the whims of their owners. I keep trying to make her stop, but she won’t listen! You should help me scare her away. We have to find her first, though. You check over that way! If you find her, meet me back here!

  • a) Okay!
  • b) Hold on-

Irin storms off into the forest.

You sense that how you decide to handle this situation will decide something important...

Unlocked: Magdalene, Irin's Daily Errands, Look for Magdalene (Main Quest)

You find Irin. They too believe you to have ill intent.

Show them your Seedling to convince them of your good intent.

Irin accepts that you mean no harm. They explain that they're the protector of the sprites living in the forest.

  • a) Protect them? From what?
  • b) What’s happening to them?

Irin explains how people have begun to mistreat the sprites after the witches' war started. They want help in getting rid of one such individual, Magdalene, who allegedly traps sprites in lanterns to sell them.

  • a) Okay!

The forest is dark and foreboding…but after a time, you see a light floating in the gloom.

Magdalene: Come now, don’t be afraid… come into my lantern, little one.

  • a) Approach cautiously.
    • Magdalene: Why, hello there! I almost didn’t see you, creeping around in the dark. Are you lost? I don’t often meet other travelers this deep in the forest - just unruly sprouts and malignant witches. I’m Magdalene. Do you need a lantern? These woods are rather eerie without a light. I make them out of things I find in the forest. With a little sprite magic, they last for quite some time!
      • a) Confront her about the sprites.
        • Magdalene: You’ve met Irin, haven’t you? Please believe me - I promise I’m not harming the sprites. You see, sprites only seem to live for a few cycles in the wild these days. It's like the forest has begun to drain them of their magic to sustain itself. With the witches using up more magic than ever, they’re dying off at an alarming rate… But my lanterns keep their magic bottled up, so they live much, much longer - and they get to see the world outside the forest. It’s true that I trap some of the sprites - they wouldn’t listen to me at first, especially with Irin around. But now, many sprites come to me directly.
          • a) That's wonderful! +5 Affection
            • Magdalene: So you agree! I'm glad. I keep trying to talk to Irin about it, but they refuse to listen to me.
              • You recall Irin's indignation over Magdalene's activities...
          • b) But aren’t they imprisoned until they die?
            • Magdalene: Well… it’s true that they can’t leave the lanterns - so it isn’t a perfect solution. But wouldn’t you rather see the world with a friend than die before you’ve truly lived, without a choice in the matter?
              • You recall Irin's indignation over Magdalene's activities...
      • b) Ask how much a lantern costs.
        • Magdalene: Oh, no - I usually don't charge anything for my lanterns! I just want to help wayworn travelers, and give the sprites a chance at a better life.
          • a) A better life?
            • Magdalene: Sprites only seem to live for a few cycles in the wild these days. It's like the forest has begun to drain them of their magic to sustain itself. And with the witches using up more magic than ever, they're dying off at an alarming rate... But my lanterns keep their magic bottled up, so they live much, much longer - and they get to see the world outside of the forest. It's true that I trap some of the sprites - they wouldn't listen to me at first, but now many sprites come to me directly.
  • b) Stop her!
    • Magdalene: G-goodness…! Oh, you gave me a fright. Looks like you scared away the sprite too.
      • a) Confront her about the sprites.
        • a) That's wonderful! +5 Affection
        • b) But aren’t they imprisoned until they die?

        • a) A better life?

You recall Irin's indignation over Magdalene's activities... Considering everything that you've now heard, you find yourself unsure of who is really doing the right thing for the sprites.

You will undoubtedly need at least 20 Honour to help guide your decision.

  • Work on increasing your Honour.

You return to find Magdalene tinkering with a lantern. The sprite inside it chitters at her, as if they're having a conversation. (Note: What options you get depends on your stats! Options A and B appeared with 9 in every stat except Honour so they are probably standard for everyone.)

  • a) Suggest a compromise.
    • Magdalene: I've dealt with Irin and their friends too many times, they're just too stubborn to listen. Though, if you'd really like to help the sprites, I could always use a hand in drawing them to my lanterns. They're just so frightened by everything that's been going on lately.

    • Magdalene hands you a small lantern. It shines brightly in the darkness, but the sprite inside looks frightened.
    • Magdalene: If you're not too busy, I could always use a hand drawing sprites to my lanterns. They're just so frightened by everything that's been going on lately.

The player finds Magdalene luring a sprite into her lantern.

  • a) Approach cautiously.
  • b) Stop her! (?)

She greets you and talks about the sprites and lanterns.

  • a) Confront her about the sprites.
  • b) Ask how much a lantern costs. (?)

Magdalene explains how she uses her lanterns to trap the sprites to make them live longer and be able to see the outside world. Though she did it by trapping them at first, now sprites come to her willingly.

  • a) That’s wonderful!
  • b) But aren’t they imprisoned until they die?

She admits that it isn't the perfect solution but argues that the sprites gets to experience much more and live longer than they would otherwise.

You recall Irin's indignation over Magdalene's activities and needs to make a decision.

Warnings: Unlocking both shops

Decisions: Like with Fantasia and Lilia, certain choices ahead may lock you out of either Irin or Magdalene's shops. It is possible to unlock both shops if you look through the next quests carefully.

Hidden Stat Gates: There appears to be hidden stat gates of 20 ahead. We have tried to label them based on players' experiments, but results cannot yet be guaranteed to be the same! This means that:

  1. A choice may have a different outcome (success or failure) based on your stats.
  2. Certain answers may not appear if a stat is too low.

If the guide tells you to pick an option and you don't see it listed, try wearing clothing items to increase all your stats above 20 and then re-open the quest, or experiment by increasing one stat at a time and share your results in this wiki.

Outdated Warning: On-site guides may be out of date. The quest has been changed since its initial release, so please read through the guide carefully to make sure it still works!

20 Honour Honour. is needed to continue.

  • a) Ask Magdalene if she’ll give you a lantern to show Irin the happy sprite.

Now that we know where she is, we can figure out how to sabotage her sprite trapping operation… Did you know that sprites love turnips? It’s like candy to them. Fortunately Magdalene hasn’t been able to get any for a while. If we can get our hands on a rotten turnip, the sprites will avoid her completely!

  • a) How will that stop her from trapping them?
  • b) Hmm, I'm not sure...

    • Irin: Yes, I see you have my sprites enslaved! What’s your point?
    • Look how happy they are!
    • Irin: That’s- … actually… I guess they do look sort of happy. Why?! You… want to leave? But this is your home! This is the only place I can protect you! … Yes… I guess you’re right. It should be your decision. I’d better go find Magdalene. If she’s really trying to help, then maybe she’ll agree to only take the sprites that volunteer. That way, the sprites get to decide their own fate. That has to be better than all the fighting. Give me those lanterns - they’ll be a good starting point for my conversation with Magdalene.

You seem like an especially intelligent/tenacious/honourable/charismatic individual, but you can prove any of your virtues by helping others. Particular kinds of people have affinities for particular virtues - so different virtues will increase depending on who you help. Some people may refuse to talk to you until you’re virtuous enough to get their attention. But don’t worry - there’s always someone who needs a hand. • a) Do you have any rotten turnips?
  • b) Nevermind.

Trout: Ugh! What do you want one of those for?... Actually, I’m not sure I want to know. But if you’re really sure you want one, my eastern field has been doing especially poorly since the forest started changing. I haven’t been able to check on it in a while - so you might find one there?

Irin: You found one, didn’t you? I could tell you were close when the sprites started hiding! Now I just need to slip this into Magdalene’s pack when she’s not looking. You'll be in charge of distracting her. Let's go!

    • Irin: Just talk to her! I can’t do it - she doesn’t trust me at all. She’d see right through my ploy. You'll be in charge of distracting her. Let's go!
  • b) Won’t she be able to smell the turnip?
    • Irin: Rotten turnips are a special kind of bad - it seems that magical beings are extra sensitive to the smell. They smell bad to other creatures too, of course, but nothing Magdalene will notice. This will keep the sprites away from her for a long time! You'll be in charge of distracting her. Let's go!

Magdalene: Oh, hello again… are you here to help me with the sprites?

  • Sort of.

You see Irin lurking behind Magdalene in the underbrush, out of sight.

Magdalene: Sort of? What are you looking at?

  • a) Just admiring how lovely you are! (If you have less than 20 Comprehension)
    • [missing text]
  • a) So why did you come to the forest? (If you have at least 20 Comprehension)
    • Magdalene: Oh, well… it’s a long story, but the abridged version is that I wanted to help. I heard about the turmoil with the witches, and… my family has told fond stories of spirits and sprites for so long. It made me sad to think that the sprites were hurting - so I came here to help them.
    • Irin looks like they’re hesitating...
      • a) Change the subject by asking where she’s from.
        • [missing text]
      • b) Keep talking about the sprites. (Is there an honour or comprehension stat gate for this to succeed?)
        • Magdalene: Lanterns like these have been in our family for generations. Many years ago, when sprites were more numerous, they kept our homes lit. They were a part of the family. But slowly, they all died off. That’s why I researched these lanterns for so long. I wanted to do everything I could to make the sprites’ lives better.
        • Irin shakes their head at you and motions for you to follow them.
        • I should be going now.
        • Magdalene: I see. Well it was nice chatting with you. I don’t have any friends in these woods, so sometimes it gets lonely. Maybe you could stop by again sometime.

Irin: ………… ………… …………

  • Are you okay?

Irin: Not really. I… I think I was really wrong about Magdalene. The way she was talking about the sprites… she obviously cares a lot. I still don’t really understand why she traps them, but she had no reason to lie to you. If she cares that deeply… I’d better go talk to her. If she’s really trying to help, then I’m sure we can figure something out. I guess you did turn out to be pretty honourable* in the end.

(* This might change based on your highest stat?)

  • Nod. +1 Honour

Irin: There are four virtues that people respect around here - Tenacity, Honour, Charm, and Comprehension. You seem like an especially intelligent/tenacious/honourable/charismatic [whichever is currently your highest stat] individual, but you can prove any of your virtues by helping others. Particular kinds of people have affinities for particular virtues - so different virtues will increase depending on who you help. Some people may refuse to talk to you until you’re virtuous enough to get their attention. But don’t worry - there’s always someone who needs a hand. Keep an eye out for Repeatable Quests if you’d like to build a particular virtue. For example, Trout always appreciates help cleaning up around here.

  • Ask about the witches.

Irin: You met them? They probably weren’t very friendly. We’re all on edge around here, but those witches have turned rotten. If you’re really interested in talking to them, try asking them for a riddle. They won’t be able to resist giving you one. Oh - and if you need anything, I have a few things I can sell you. I’m sure Magdalene does too.

Magdalene: You mean you’ll really help me? Thank you! I need all the help I can get, what with Irin always sabotaging my traps… Sprites love turnips - but they’re so hard to obtain around here, with the soil so starved of nutrients. Do you happen to know where to find one? A single Plump Turnip goes a long way with these little sprites.

  • a) I have a Turnip right here! (Requires 1 Plump Turnip)
  • b) I’ll get one from Louise Hill!
  • c) Can’t you buy one from Trout?

Magdalene: That’s perfect! Thank you so much. I need to fix some of my broken traps around here, but there should be some functioning ones a little deeper in the forest. Here.

You are now holding Magdalene’s empty lanterns.

Magdalene: Put any sprites you find into those lanterns, and bring them here when you’ve finished. I’ll work on repairing these traps and baiting them with Turnips.

  • Search for Magdalene’s traps.

You wander deeper into the forest, keeping an eye out for traps. Soon you find them, each with a sprite inside.

  • a) Put the sprites into the lanterns.
    • You coax the sprites into Magdalene’s lanterns. They seem happy to be free of the traps.
      • a) Return to Magdalene.
      • b) Find Irin. (Reunite with Irin)
  • b) Release the sprites.
    • [Placeholder text]: Magdalene asks you what happened.
      • a) The traps were empty. (20 comprehension stat gate?)
        • She believes you. +1 Comprehension, 400 Potatoes
        • Rewards: Unlocks both shops. Main Quest: Find Irin
      • b) I released them. (?)
  • b) Return to Irin to reveal Magdalene's location.
    • Unlocks: Reunite with Irin

You decide to help Magdalene. She explains that sprites love turnips but they're hard to get by in the forest.

Give Magdalene 1 Plump Turnip.

  • a) I'll get one from Louise Hill!
  • b) Can't you buy one from Trout?
  • c) I have a Turnip right here!

She thanks you and gives you some empty lanterns, tasking you to put sprites caught in traps into them. You soon find them.

Once you find the sprites, you can either release them or put them into the lanterns. This is effectively choosing which NPC's route to take, although at this point both shops can still be unlocked.

Put Sprites into the Lantern

After you coax the sprites into the lanterns, you can either return to Magdalene or find Irin.

  • a) Return to Magdalene. (?)
  • b) Find Irin.
    • a) Show Irin the sprites.
    • Success: Both shops will eventually unlock. +1 Tenacity.

Release the Sprites

Magdalene questions you about the lack of sprites when you return.

  • a) The traps were empty when I found them. (20 Comprehension Comprehension. stat gate?)
    • Success: Magdalene believes you. Both shops will eventually unlock. 400 Potatoes. and +1 Comprehension.
    • Unsuccessful: Magdalene doesn't believe you. Only Irin's shop will now unlock.

Irin: There you are! I’ve been looking for you! So you were on Magdalene’s side all along?! I knew I shouldn’t have trusted you!

  • a) Show Irin the sprites. (20 tenacity stat gate?)
    • (Can fail or succeed. See below.)
  • b) Return to Magdalene.

Success:

Irin: Yes, I see you have my sprites enslaved! What’s your point?

  • Look how happy they are!

Irin: That’s- … actually… I guess they do look sort of happy.

You give Irin Magdalene’s sprite-filled lanterns. I guess you did turn out to be pretty Tenacious in the end. +1 Tenacity

Barclay: You again? Some of us witches have better things to do than play with the likes of you.

  • a) Leave.
  • b) How about a riddle?
    • Barclay: Wait, you want a riddle? I love riddles!

Barclay seems remarkably more welcoming.

Barclay: What stands for all, but never falls?

  • a) A statue.
  • b) A hero. +5 Affection
    • Barclay: That’s right! A true hero fights for everyone, and never fails! Maybe you aren’t as villainous as I thought.
  • c) The mountains.

Do you have any questions for Barclay?

  • a) Ask about Barclay’s meadow.
    • Barclay: Isn’t it just perfect? It’s from my favorite story, about a valiant knight who rescues a prince from the clutches of an evil dragon! I’d like to make the rest of the forest match, too… but Glume and Mycel are always ruining it with their hideous plants!
  • b) Ask about the other witches.
    • Barclay: They are just the worst! They have no sense of aesthetic whatsoever! They want to fill the forest with horrible things, but I just want it to be cute and happy! Is that so awful?
    • Tell him about the state of the forest.
    • Barclay: How is any of that my fault?! All I want to do is make the forest as cute and happy as it deserves! Glume and Mycel are the evil ones, with their terrible potions and plants and death! Tell them to fix it!
    • a) Be insistent.
      • Barclay: Honestly, you’re just as rude as them! So you should understand exactly why they’re impossible to work with. I’d never consort with villains! Unless you can prove that they’re not wicked, you’re wasting your breath.
    • b) Give up.
  • c) Leave.
  • d) Ask about Barclay's magic.
    • Barclay: I used to practice my magic and read my books and dream of all the things I’d do when I became a powerful witch. But… it was just so dull! I could never get things just the way I wanted them, so finishing anything took forever. After the world-hoppers came, my magic got lots stronger, so it was easier to bring my stories to life!
    • Ask about the world-hoppers.
    • Barclay: They’re all so strange. No recollection of their past, no idea how they fit in here. But their magic is powerful. It really changed things around here. … Yes, in the right hands, their powers could be very useful indeed. You want to know more about the world-hoppers, don’t you? Well, so do I. Maybe we can help each other out. I’ll tell you what I know, and you help me figure out the things I want to know. That sounds like a fair trade, doesn’t it?
    • a) Ask what he wants.
      • Barclay: Hmm… no, you’re not there yet. You don’t have enough determination. I can always tell. Maybe if you learn to be more Tenacious, you’ll be ready to accept this call to adventure!
      • Perhaps you should try raising your Tenacity to 30 before asking again.
    • b) Maybe later...

Barclay: Oh, it's you again. Are you here to help?

  • a) Ask what he wants help with.
  • b) Leave

Barclay: I can feel your determination. Perhaps you're hero material after all! But a true hero is never tempted by evil. You can't go frolicking about with those dark witches if you work with me. It would ruin my reputation! So, what do you think? Are you ready to swear off villainy?

  • a) Yes. +5 Affection
    • Barclay: Here, take this!
    • Barclay gives you a Golden Flower Vase.
    • Barclay: I need to see if you're as strong as the others first, so go ahead and make this into a pet... or whatever it is you do.
  • b) No.

Mycel: I knew you’d be back… Always watching, aren’t you?
  • a) Leave.
  • b) Ask Mycel for a riddle.
  • c) Ask Mycel if she likes riddles.
    • Mycel: A riddle? Yes… I know a few. It dies without a body and sighs without a voice.
      • a) An echo.
      • b) A ghost.
        • Mycel: Oh dear… that was the wrong answer. But if you got it wrong, you must not be very devious.
      • c)The wind. +5 Affection
        • Mycel: Correct. Did you know that some mushrooms create wind to spread their spores? If Barclay and Glume would only stop meddling, I’m sure the forest would be covered in them… You seem like a dreamer... I suppose I can overlook those ominous eyes for now.

Do you have any questions for Mycel?

  • a) Ask about Mycel’s mushrooms.
    • Mycel: These glowshrooms are special. They bring your dreams to life, and make everything so beautiful… I turn them into potions, so everyone can experience the joy they bring… but there just isn’t enough room for them to grow in this corner of the woods.
  • b) Ask about the other witches.
    • Mycel: They don’t understand. Crazy, they say, but they haven’t seen what I’ve seen. If they would just try it, they’d see how much more beautiful glamour is than "real" things…
  • c) Leave.
  • d) Ask about Mycel's magic.
    • Mycel: For years I wandered these woods, tending to travelers lost and wounded. A plant grew here that made a powerful healing potion. But the work never ended, and I was so tired... When the world-hoppers turned those plants into healing pets, I was free. I had time to rest. To dream. So I slept beside a patch of murmuring glowshrooms, and when I awakened they showed me such lovely visions...
    • Ask about the world-hoppers.
      • Mycel: It is strange… your kind holds such power, yet you can’t seem to remember where you came from… I forget things sometimes, too… but I do remember many of your kind passing through here. I might tell you what I remember of them… if you’ll help me.
        • a) Ask what she wants.
          • Mycel: No… no, your eyes are too vacant. You would not be up to the task. Perhaps if you were more Comprehending, you could understand what I shall ask…
          • Perhaps you should try raising your Comprehension to 30 before asking again.
        • b) Maybe later…
  • Tell her about the state of the forest.

Mycel: You don’t understand either. Everything I do is for the good of the forest, and all those who dwell within… If you can’t see that, then you’re just as bad as Glume and Barclay…

  • a) Be insistent.
    • It… may be possible that it won’t be as beautiful as I imagine- but I need to see it first. To see it real. No one believes me. But I’ll prove you all wrong. You’ll see!
  • b) Give up.

Mycel: Hello, beautiful one. Have you returned to offer your help?

  • a) Ask what she wants help with.
  • b) Leave.

Mycel: Yes… yes, perhaps you could be useful after all. But I can’t have you whispering my secrets to the others… You must promise not to speak with them until my task is complete. If you do, I will know. Do you swear, world-hopper?

  • a) Yes. +5 Affection
    • Mycel: Take this, then, this quiet thing...
    • Mycel gives you Glowshrooms.
    • Mycel: If you are truly like the others, then you’ll make it sing. I want to hear its song come alive.

Glume: The wind sure is noisy today…

  • a) Leave.
  • b) Beg to hear a riddle.
  • c) Ask Glume if she likes riddles.
    • Glume: What? Who told you I have a fondness for riddles?! Oh, nevermind, it doesn’t matter. You’ll never get this right.

Glume: Here we sleep or speak, but cannot hear.

  • a) A cemetery. +5 Affection
    • Glume: Hmph. I gave you an easy one. But if you’re interested in riddles, perhaps you aren’t as trifling as I thought.
  • b) The ocean.
  • c) The cosmos.
    • Glume: Hah! I knew you’d get it wrong! Though I must admit, it was fun to watch you squirm.

Do you have any questions for Glume?

  • a) Ask about Glume’s thorns.
    • Glume: These thorns feed off of dark energy… they can only grow in soil that’s rich with decay. But when they have a wealth of nutrients, they bloom. Their flowers are so beautiful that those who lay eyes on them can’t help but weep. They are perfection.
  • b) Ask about the other witches.
    • Glume: All they do is get in my way, though they’re smart enough to do it in roundabout ways. I want nothing to do with them.
    • Tell her about the state of the forest.
    • Glume: You think I care about the problems of lesser creatures?
      • a) Be insistent.
        • Glume: I am death incarnate. They have nothing of value to me. If you could prove their worth, then perhaps I would hear you out… But I doubt you’re up to such an impossible task.
      • b) Give up.
  • c) Leave.
  • d) Ask about Glume's magic.
    • Glume: My magic is the most powerful there is… and that’s all you need to know. I’ve always been the strongest witch. Even the world-hoppers know to stay out of my way.
    • Ask about the world-hoppers.
    • Glume: You world-hoppers are so amusing. No idea where you came from, or why. Always so helpless. Look at this vine. Beautiful, isn’t it? I grew it from the spine of the last world-hopper who thought they could play with me, after their power proved… disappointing. Does that frighten you?
      • a) Yes.
        • Glume: Good. It is wise to be afraid when faced with your superiors.
      • b) No.
        • Glume: Then you are a fool. But fools can be entertaining… for a time.

Glume: You should know that I don’t like sharing my playthings. If it’s my attention you want, you’ll have to give none to those other lowly witches. Do you have what it takes to amuse me, world-hopper?

  • a) Yes.
    • Glume: Your words do not move me…Perhaps if you were more Charming, I’d be more inclined to listen to you.
    • Perhaps you should try raising your Charm to 30 before asking again.
  • b) No.
    • Glume: At least you know your limits better than this poor vineling.
Rewards: Poisoned Skull, 300 Potatoes

Unlocks: Riddling with Glume II (Main Quest)

Riddles from all three witches can be answered before pledging loyalty to one (but answering all three is not necessary). Pledging loyalty to a witch after their riddle will lock the other witches' shops until reaching 500 affection with them, but does not affect the outcome of the main questline.

Description "You try out Glume's riddle."
Full Transcript

Glume: There’s no way it’s hatched already. You must not be able to stand being away from me.

  • a) Oh… I haven’t incubated it yet.
  • b) I’ve incubated it though...
    • Glume: How amusing… you’re a strange one, aren't you? Why tell me information I don’t care about? I only want to see it when it’s hatched. But I suppose I should reward you for returning. This riddle should be easy enough, even for you.

Glume: "It can be lost, and stain or spill, but without it you cannot live."

  • a) Water.
  • b) Blood. +5 Affection
    • Glume: Very good.
  • c) Wine.

Glume: Even your weak magic should be enough to finish it by tomorrow. Come back later and we’ll see.

  • a) Leave.

Glume: Still?! Hmph. I’m beginning to lose my patience with you. You’d better get some results soon, or you’ll end up like my previous servants…

  • a) How many servants have you had?
  • b) Who were your servants?
    • Glume: Most of them were naive world-hoppers, just like you.
    • Glume: The regular folk learned to stay away rather quickly after my betrothed met his demise. But the world-hoppers always find me.
      • a) Betrothed?
        • Glume: Yes… I don’t remember much about him, only that he was dull.
        • Glume: When my magic was still in its fledgling stage, my family thought to arrange a marriage for me. I despised him. He was the first I sent to the grave.
        • a) You killed him?
          • Glume: Of course I did. How else would a death mage dispose of an annoyance?
          • Glume: It was the quickest way to end the betrothal, and no one lifted a hand to stop me afterward. There was nothing there that I wanted, so once I disposed of my betrothed I made these woods my new home. But that is enough about me. I don’t like reminiscing on those days.
          • Glume: You’d better hope that your magic comes through soon.
          • Leave.
        • b) What was your family like?
        • c) I should go.
      • b) Tell me more about the world-hoppers.
      • c) I should go.
  • c) What happened to them?

Glume: Well?

  • a) Not yet...
  • b) I've hatched it! (Hatched 1/1)
    • Glume: I guess this means you aren’t completely incompetent after all. +900 Potatoes
    • Glume: But I’m still not convinced of your usefulness. I have an errand for you to run. Speak to me again for the specifics.

Barclay: Your path for heroism is going well, I'd say! But I'm not completely sure I can trust you. If you truly want to become a hero, you have to prove you're a good person. Every hero has to know the value of helping others - if you do 5 good deeds for decent people, I'll know you're trustworthy. It should go without saying that those other witches do not count as "decent people!" You'll have to leave them out of this.

  • a) I'll do it.
  • b) Maybe later.

Barclay: Good! Now, go find people who need your help! That usele-- er, helpless turnip-farming sprout usually needs a hand. Or that girl on Louise Hill... if you're brave enough. And I'm sure there are a few others with Repeatable Daily Quests too.

  • a) Brave enough?
    • Barclay: You must have met her, if you came through Louise Hill. She makes it a point to greet all the world-hopper... She seems obsessed with it, though you'd never guess by talking to her. She gives me the creeps!... But I'm not sure that she's evil. So, I guess helping her counts!
  • b) I'll do my best!

Barclay wants you to complete 5 Repeatable Daily Quests. Continue when you're done!

  • a) I've done it! (Quested 5/5 Times) +5 Affection
  • b) Okay, I'm on it.

Barclay: News of your good deeds spread quickly! It looks like you're well on your way to being a protagonist.

Mycel: My vision of loveliness returns… I have a request for you, dear one. It has been so long since I swam in dull reality… I am curious to know what others dream of. Can you ask them for me? If you interact with your pets 5 times, I think it will be enough…

  • a) I'll do it.
  • b) Maybe later.

Mycel: Wondrous… I am eager to hear about their dreams, so that we may drown together in glamour.

Mycel wants you to interact with your pets 5 times.

  • a) I've done it! (Interacted 5/5 Times) +5 Affection

Glume: Hmph. We'll see about that. If you manage to find gifts befitting a lady of my standing, it would be a miracle.

Bring me... Something cute. Preferably with lace. Actually, I don't trust you to read between the lines at all - a dress. Bring me a dress.

  • a) You like cute things?
    • S-so what if I do?! What a rude question.
    • Lacy things just look so darling... especially when you offset them with dreary, dead things.
      • a) I guess I'll get going then. [End]
  • b) I'll do my best!
    • ??

One of Buli's dresses should work.

Glume: Ah... th-that's...! Give it to me, now! S-so cute... Ahem. Well, I'm glad you're capable of accomplishing such a simple task. Incompetence will not be tolerated for my future plans...

Barclay: Something big is about to happen, world-hopper. I can feel it!

  • Nod.

Barclay: But… I’m still not sure if I can trust you. Loyalty is one of the main pillars of heroism, you know? There are a few tasks you can complete to earn my trust, but if you do the other witches will think less of you. So make sure you’re committed to being a hero!

Barclay still doesn't trust you. Complete daily quests with him to gain at least 75 affection.

  • You clench your fist heroically.

Barclay: It looks like you’re well on your way to being a protagonist. If you help me over those evildoers, I’m sure we can get the upper hand! What do you say, partner?

  • a) Let's do it!
  • b) I'll think about it.

Barclay: Glad to hear you're in this with me. I’ve been reading up on summoning magic, and I’m so close to a breakthrough! If we can figure this out, I’ll be able to summon the heroes from my stories to fight for us! And maybe we’ll learn something about how you got here, too. I think the answer is in one of these books, but… I’m not sure which one. What do you think?

  • a) Alternate Realities: Portals to Parallel Realms
  • b) Mystical Dreamers: Making Your Dreams a Reality
  • c) Sir Astor x Reader: A Part of Your World
    • a) Try a different book?
    • b) Go with Sir Astor x Reader
Alternate Realities: Portals to Parallel Realms

Barclay: That does seem like the obvious choice. Let’s see here… Aaargh! So many of these spells sound like they might work. I’ve got all the components to try one of them, but… I’m not sure which one to try. Let's add some extra ingredients, to make it more potent- we'll pick the spell later. Should we add Agrimony, or something else?

  • a) Hyacinth. (?)
  • b) Lilac. (?)
  • c) Yes, agrimony! +5 Affection
    • Barclay: Better safe than sorry, right?

Barclay: And some Poppy?

  • a) Thyme. +5 Affection
    • Barclay: Oh! That's actually a really good idea...
  • b) Peppermint.
  • c) Poppy sounds good.
    • Barclay: I thought so.

Barclay: That should be everything. But... which spell should we go with? I think any of these should work...

  • a) Flipped Dimensional Spell.
    • Barclay: I was leaning towards that one, too. Okay! Now for the incantation... Where once was up, we now are down, ‘til sense is made and up recrowned!
    • All at once, the world seems to invert, leaving you in a dark, barely-recognizable place. You hear Barclay calling for you in the darkness.
    • Barclay: Worldhopper? Are you there?!
    • Yes, I'm here!
    • Barclay: Oh, thank goodness. I was afraid I was alone here. I can hardly see anything. Where are we?
    • Before you can answer, you hear a disembodied cry.
    • Barclay: Wh-what was that?!
    • That voice sounds familiar...
    • It sounds like Irin. “They’re dying,” they cry. “All of them. You did this!”
    • Barclay: M-me?! But - I only make cute things. It’s Glume and Mycel that-
    • Magdalene’s voice speaks up through the darkness. “It’s a shame about Trout… they were only trying to help. But I guess the witches don’t care what happens to the forest, really.”
    • Barclay: N-now that’s just not true…! R-right?
    • a) Maybe it just seems like you don't care.
    • b) Your fighting is harming the forest.
    • Barclay: … I thought I was helping, but… I guess if I’m fighting Glume and Mycel, I’m contributing to all this.
    • More voices wail at you, and Barclay covers his ears.
    • Barclay: I never wanted this! Make them go away- I’ll do anything, please!
    • Just as suddenly as it changed, the world reverts back to normal, as though a light were switched on.
    • Barclay: Ah…! I-is it over?
    • I think so.
    • Barclay: That was… that was just awful. I can’t believe I’m contributing to something so terrible. I didn’t realize it was getting that bad! I can hardly call myself a hero if this is what my actions are leading to. I’ll… I’ll have to stop fighting so much. Be nicer to the others, even if they are bad. Maybe… I can help make them good instead? I have a lot of work cut out for me, don’t I? Thank you for your help, Worldhopper. If you ever need anything, by the way, I have a few items you might like. You’ll have to pay, of course, but I’ll use the proceeds to take care of the forest! Hero’s honor. And… thank you for helping me.
    • You have unlocked Barclay’s Chance Machine Shop.
    • Trout will probably want to hear about this new development…
    • Go see Trout.
  • b) Twilight Hour Chronoshift.
  • c) Otherworld Tear.
    • Barclay: Sort of a spooky name. We'll see how this goes... Okay! Now for the incantation... Open a window where once was a wall, and let us see how all shall fall! Ah-! It worked! Look, a portal! I wonder where it goes?
    • a) Be careful...
    • b) Let's find out!
    • Barclay: I wonder...
    • Barclay walks through he portal, pulling you along with him.
    • Barclay: ...This is my meadow - it doesn't look different at all! No, wait - it is! There are flowers everywhere - see? This is - we must be in a world where the other witches aren't around to pester me anymore.
    • You notice an ominous-looking castle in the distance.
    • What's that?
    • Barclay: Hmm? ...Ah! Th-that looks like the castle of the dark wizard, Barnabas! What's it doing here, in my obviously perfect fairytale forest?
    • Was Barnabas in Sir Astor's story?
    • Barclay: Of course he was! How would there be perils without- ...Wait a minute. Every story needs a villain, right? But if the other witches are gone, then... Then...! Worldhopper! We have to leave, right now! Come on!
    • Barclay tugs you insistently towards the portal.
    • Leave the fairytale realm.
    • You travel back through the portal. Barclay seems deeply troubled.
    • Barclay: I...I see now. Every story needs a villain. And if the other witches aren't around, then the only one left is... Th-that's a horrible outcome! We have to make sure I never succumb to evil! But in order to do that... I guess we have to keep Glume and Mycel around. All right - I'll stop trying to hard to get rid of them. After all, I don't want to become a villain. Thank you for your help, world-hopper. I'm glad we were able to prevent this tragedy from happening! If you ever need anything, by the way, I have a few items you might like. You’ll have to pay, of course, but I’ll use the proceeds to take care of the forest! Hero’s honor. And… thank you for helping me.

Mystical Dreamers: Making Your Dreams a Reality

Barclay: Hm... that almost sounds like Mycel's sort of thing. But we can give it a look. I'm seeing two different spells in here that might work... Making a spell circle and falling asleep within it, or brewing a potion. I don't know much about potions - you'll have to liberate a few ingredients from Mycel's stores. Or we could try the spell circle?

  • a) Let's try the potion.
  • b) Let's try the spell circle.
    • Barclay: We'll have to mix a few things first, from the ingredients over there. Pass me the Chamomile
    • a) Give him the white petals.
      • Barclay: That's bold - I like it!
    • b) Give him the yellow bud.
      • Barclay: Ahh, I feel relaxed already!
    • Barclay: Now the Dandelion.
    • a) Give him the leaf.
    • b) Give him the root.
      • Barclay: The more traditional choice - probably safer.
    • Barclay: And lastly, Jasmine.
    • a) Give him the incense.
    • b) Give him the flowers.
      • Barclay: I guess they'll still burn. There, done mixing!
    • Barclay: Now, how should we draw the circle?
    • a) Scorch a ring into the ground.
      • Barclay: That's... kind of dark, isn't it? I guess it'll do.
    • b) Dribble a ring of beeswax.
    • c) Make a ring of flowers.
      • Barclay: Like royalty in a fairytale, waiting for my knight-saviour!
    • Barclay: I guess now I just need to fall asleep. But I'm not sleepy at all...
    • a) Sing Barclay a song.
      • Barclay: What is that awful screeching noise? Are you dying?! I'll go to sleep, I swear! YAWN... see?
    • b) Hit Barclay in the head. -2 Affection
      • Barclay: Ouch! That hurt! What was that for?
      • [Missing text]
    • c) Tell Barclay a story.
      • Barclay: But if you don't remember anything, how will you tell me a story? Unless you're going to talk about something really boring... ugh. YAWN... yep, I feel myself getting tired already... no need for a story at all!
  • c) Isn't that stealing?
    • Barclay: It's not stealing if it's from someone evil!

Barclay: Zzz...

  • Wait for Barclay to wake up.

Barclay: ... ...snore... ... ... Hm? Is that you, world-hopper? I had the most lovely dream... Sir Astor visited me, and we danced... But - he told me I'd been shirking my heroic duties... that the war between us witches has to end, and I'm not doing my part.

  • What will you do now?

Barclay: The spell might not have worked exactly how I imagined, but I did realise something important - so thanks for that! I can't give up my aesthetic completely, but I promise to take it easy! If you ever need anything, by the way, I have a few items you might like. You’ll have to pay, of course, but I’ll use the proceeds to take care of the forest! Hero’s honor. And… thank you for helping me.

You have unlocked Barclay’s Chance Machine Shop.

Sir Astor x Reader: A Part of Your World

Barclay: Wh-what?! How’d that get - give me that!… Although… I do remember something about a soulmate spell in this story. I guess it’s worth a shot. S-Stop looking at me like that! Umm… okay, so… . . . ...Hhhhhh…

  • Uh… Barclay?

Barclay: Aaaah! Oh - sorry, I forgot- I-I just got caught up in - ahem. Nothing. Anyway. Well, there is a soulmate spell in here, and it… honestly looks like the real deal. Th-the only problem is - Sir Astor’s soulmate would be Prince Andrius… right? So I’m not sure if it’d work like in the story... Should we try it anyway, or… check a different book?

  • a) Let’s try Mystical Dreamers: Making your Dreams a Reality.
    • Branch: Mystical Dreamers: Making your Dreams a Reality
  • b) Let’s try Alternate Realities: Portals to Parallel Realms.
    • Branch: Alternate Realities: Portals to Parallel Realms
  • c) No one loves Sir Astor more than you! Let’s try it.

Barclay: If you think it’s a good idea, then… o-okay! It looks like a simple spell - recite an incantation while thinking of your soulmate and holding a good luck charm. But I don’t have a good luck charm… what should I use?

  • a) I’m your good luck charm! +5 Affection
    • Barclay: … Uhh. What do you mean? Well, um… I guess I couldn’t have come this far without your help. Maybe you’re right?
  • b) Your first spell.
  • c) Your favorite book.

Barclay: O-okay. Now I just need to think of Sir Astor… Spirits of love, hear my cry! Bring me my… s-s-soulmate, across space and time! . . . . . . . . . D… did it work?

  • I don’t see Sir Astor…

Barclay: I guess not. Sir Astor isn’t here. Only… you? … You?! H-hang on just a - I mean - I guess if my soulmate were already here, then the spell wouldn’t do anything, but - but - ! No, that can’t… I just… I-I’m not ready… !

  • a) But Barclay, I love you! +5 Affection
    • Barclay stares at you for a moment. You get the sense that he’s screaming internally.
  • b) I’m not ready either!
  • c) We’re not soulmates, Barclay.

Barclay: I just… I need some time to deal with this, okay?! I-I’ve obviously… got a lot to think about. Maybe there are more important things than making the perfect fairytale forest. If you ever need anything, by the way, I have a few items you might like. You’ll have to pay, of course, but I’ll use the proceeds to take care of the forest! Hero’s honor. And… thank you for helping me. E-even if it did turn out kind of… awkward.

You have unlocked Barclay’s Chance Machine Shop.

Trout will probably want to hear about this new development…

Mycel: I think I am ready to show the forest its dreams… but I fear that the others are concocting their own schemes.

  • Nod.

Mycel: World-hopper… I must ask you… do you truly believe? If you prove your conviction, the other witches will surely disapprove… but I shall know your truth.

Mycel still doesn't trust you. Complete daily quests with her to gain at least 75 affection.

Mycel: I think I am ready to show the forest its dreams… but I fear that the others are concocting their own schemes.

  • Nod solemnly.

Mycel: If you help me one last time, I know we shall overcome. I am sure they will not be disappointed when my plan comes to fruition… Shall you join me?

  • a) Let's do it!
  • b) I’ll think about it.

Mycel: Wind and rain make us whole again… Isn’t it clever? A storm, world-hopper. If we brew up a storm, it will spread my concoctions throughout the forest. But as always, our possibilities branch… What sort of storm shall we create?

  • a) A tornado.
    • ???
  • b) A thunderstorm.
    • Mycel: A wise inclination... magically charged thunderstorms are the strongest in the land.
  • c) A tsunami.
    • Mycel: An interesting choice... I hadn't considered the possibility. But perhaps if we pull water from the land using its leylines... yes, that could work.

Mycel: I have been working tirelessly to brew enough potions for the entire forest... but... I am unsure which mixture would be most fitting. The Shimmering Potion is my favorite, and its visions are always lovelier... but I fear it may be too potent for the dreamless ones. The Glowing Potion is much weaker, based on one of my original recipes... but it has been the basis of my mixtures for quite some time. Which shall I use? I'm eager to make a good impression.

  • a) The potent Shimmering Potion.
    • Mycel: I am not used to orchestrating grandeur... in truth, I often shy away from it. But this is why I need your help... to know when I must push forward or withdraw.
  • b) The safe Glowing Potion.
    • Mycel: You are right... better to be safe. Flashy is powerful, but dangerous. You bless me with your humility, world-hopper.

Mycel: To create a storm, we must create a spectacle... you and I must dance.

  • a) Sounds like fun!
  • b) Great...
  • c) I'll do my best. +5 Affection

Mycel: To charge the spell, you’ll need to shatter these potions at our feet as we dance.

Mycel hands you several potions.

Mycel: We won’t need them all. I trust your wisdom- just choose whichever feels right for the moment. Now, let us begin.

As Mycel starts to dance, the glowshrooms surrounding you seem to glow even brighter. She sways to an invisible rhythm, moving slowly and meaningfully as though possessed.

  • a) Choose the mysterious purple potion.
    • The purple potion creates a large cloud of smoke that dissipates lazily as you dance around it.
  • b) Choose the energetic pink potion.
    • The pink potion creates a spirited fountain of bubbles. They fly up towards the forest canopy as you dance beneath them.

Mycel reaches for one of your hands, clasping it gently as she pulls you in a circle. Together, you begin to spin.

  • a) Choose the warm red vial.
    • The warm vial hisses when it shatters. The air begins to feel humid.
  • b) Choose the icy blue vial.
    • The icy vial creates glowing blue patterns on the ground. They seem to exhale cold air when you step over them.

Mycel releases you, lifting her arms to the sky. She leaps with surprising agility, twirling and twisting as she finishes the dance.

  • a) Choose the pulsating orange potion.
    • The orange potion fills the clearing with a citrusy aroma.
  • b) Choose the humming green potion.
    • The humming potion fills the air with an insistent drone. The ground seems to vibrate beneath you.

Mycel turns towards you, her cheeks slightly flushed with effort.

Mycel: Well done. Can you feel it in the air? The storm is coming.

If you chose tornado:

  • ???

If you chose thunderstorm:

  • A bolt of lightning strikes the ground in the middle of the clearing. Thunder booms through the air as thick, black clouds form over your head, absorbing Mycel’s potions. Rain pours from the heavy clouds, and the storm crashes through the trees into the forest.

If you chose tsunami:

  • Glowing veins of light appear below you, rippling out from the clearing. The forest seems to whisper with energy. All around, you hear water dripping from the sky. After a moment a loud crash fills the air and a small wave floods the forest.
  • Did it work?

Mycel: The storm was real - you saw it too, didn’t you? But I do not know what effect it has had. We’ll have to see. I can tap into the mycorrhizal network of the forest, and listen to what has happened.

Mycel closes her eyes and kneels, laying her hand on the forest floor. She sits still for several long moments as the forest sits eerily silent around you.

Mycel: … I see.

  • What happened?

If you chose tornado:

  • ??

If you chose thunderstorm:

  • Mycel: The storm seemed to spread the potions as I wished. Many of the forest residents and travelers were affected. Fewer of them are as enamored as I am… a strange outcome. But there are a small number of those affected that have seen the beauty in the Glowshroom visions.

If you chose tsunami:

  • Mycel: Although the tsunami swept through the forest, only a few people were affected by it. Many of them were able to get to cover and were not touched directly by the potion-infused storm. Even so... those who were affected seem to have a taste for it now. Many of them clamour to discover what caused the wave. I'm sure they would be happy to have more, once they learn of my potions.
  • a) What will you do now?
    • Mycel: I would very much like to collect these new followers, and house them here. Perhaps it is enough that a small few appreciate these visions. Regardless, it will take time to find them all and teach them.
  • b) But what about the home and fields that were destroyed?
    • Mycel: You are right... I should have forseen this. I must aid them too, there is no other recourse for what I have done. I will dedicate my efforts to those I affected.

Mycel: This squabble for domination is less imperative. You have my word that I shall do my part not to encroach… at least until I have undone what I have wrought. It is clear that I must reassess my plans, to find a better course of action for the future. But thank you for helping me, world-hopper. I would not have come so far on my own. If you have a need, you may purchase items from my shop. Perhaps you will find something that inspires you.

  • a) A tornado.
  • b) A thunderstorm.
  • c) A tsunami.

Mycel debates on whether to use a potent Shimmering Potion, which will produce the most beautiful visions but may be too potent for some, or the safe Glowing Potion.

  • a) The potent Shimmering Potion.
  • b) The safe Glowing Potion.

Mycel: "To create a storm, we must create a spectacle... you and I must dance."

  • a) Sounds like fun!
  • b) Great...
  • c) I'll do my best. +5 Affection.

Glume: It seems that a storm is brewing in the forest, and I want to be the first to unleash my fury.

Glume: I've written a spell that should transfer some of your powers to me. Not all of it, don't worry- just enough for me to experiment with.

Trout: It seems like you’ve been very busy in Three’s Forest, haven’t you? The witches seem like they’ve settled down some. Things are starting to return to normal, at least. I’m not sure what you did, but we all appreciate it! Thank you, for whatever it was. Oh, but I guess you probably want to find someone else to help, or some clues about where you came from. There’s such a vast world out there to explore, but I’ve never left this part of the forest. And with things in such a bad state, there aren’t many travelers passing through with news anymore. But things are definitely looking up around here. Maybe later I’ll have some news for you!

You suspect you’ll have to wait a while for news of new places to travel. Maybe you can spend this time getting to know the people you’ve already met!

You see Trout staring at the road that leads away from Three's Forest with a pensive expression on his face.

Trout: The other sprouts left the forest on that road. I wonder where it leads. I'd ask a traveler, but... they don't really come by anymore. Not that I can blame them, it'd be just as hard for them to grow their turnips here as it is for me. Maybe there'll be more people on the road now that you've helped the witches calm down a little. The forest looks a little more welcoming now. What do you think is out there?

  • a) Riches and glory.
  • b) Knowledge and mysteries.
  • c) More turnips.
  • d) Shrug and look away.

Trout: I suppose I'll never get to see it myself. I can't go running off to distant destinations, but... You can, can't you? You don't have any turnips to look after, and if you get worried about us forest residents, all you have to do is come back and visit. Then you can tell us stories about everywhere you've been! Sometimes when the sky is clear you can see a big mountain just past the horizon. Magdalene says it's home to a bustling mine full of rubies and sapphires and all sorts of gems. She told me that there are mountain people too... I wonder what they'd look like? Probably very frail, since they don't get much sun. And maybe all their clothes are carved out of rock! There must be so many incredible things waiting for you down that road. Don't forget to come back once in a while to tell me about your new adventures!

  • You're right, I'll travel onwards. Wish me luck!
