Bearnard: On second thought, I’m not sure if I trust you enough to let you into my humble abode just yet. Please understand, a lot’s been happening in these last few months and it’s made even the most trusting folk do things like lock their doors and look over their shoulder. How about I ask you some questions to see if you’re a kid with good sense?
  • a) Agree tentatively.
  • b) Proudly agree, you definitely have some good sense.
  • c) Huff impatiently.

  • e) Proudly agree, you definitely have some good sense.

Bearnard: What’s better, oranges or turnips?

  • a) Oranges, of course.
    • Bearnard: Oh... Not sure what’s so obviously good about oranges, they don’t even make a good soup base. Well, maybe you’re not a bad person if you like oranges more. I’ll ask you a different question then. How many turnips should I give to Buli?
    • a) You look at him in confusion.
    • b) Blink in expectation.
    • c) Stare mutely.
    • Bearnard: That’s right, none! She’s always after them, and I don’t think she has good intentions for them. Anyways, I guess you could pass as a trustworthy person, and I want the sales, so feel free to look around in my shop.
    • You have unlocked Bearnard's Shop!
  • b) Turnips are good wholesome tubers that make a good soup base. +1 Affection
    • Bearnard: Absolutely!! Don’t I know it! Since all I grow are turnips, I’ve found some pretty clever ways to eat them, if I do say so myself. From your answer I can tell that you’re a good, responsible person worthy of trust. Feel free to try your luck in my shop, maybe you’ll get something good!

Bearnard: The Great Turnip Caper[]

Quest Information
Quest Giver Bearnard
Prerequisites Main Quest: Bearnard's Woes
Description "Try to help Bearnard with his main problem in life."
Full Transcript
Bearnard is pacing around in front of his shop, staring down at a ledgerbook with consternation.  His brow furrows and his ears twitch as he runs his paw over the same section of the book several times.
  • What's wrong?

Bearnard: Oh, you startled me. What's wrong? Well, I've been counting my turnip stores over the past few days and... Someone has been sneaking in every day and stealing my turnips!

  • a) How awful.
  • b) Even with the help of the Knights of the Neighborhood?
    • Bearnard: Yes, even with their help! I mean, Lilia tried her best, but... The presence of extra eyes watching over my fields should've been enough of a deterrent! Even Paws can't be on patrol all the time.
    • I suppose that's true...

Bearnard: I just know that Buli is behind this. It's bad enough to steal a turnip now and then, but every day? It's getting out of hand. I need to teach her a lesson...

  • a) Agree with him.
    • Bearnard: You think so too, huh?
  • b) Defend Buli. -1 Affection

Bearnard: She's a stubborn one though, it'll take something pretty serious to get her to stop.

  • Like what?

Bearnard: Maybe I can replace all my turnip stores with rocks... Just imagine the look on her face when she breaks in, expecting to find turnips! . . . Oh, but then where will I put my turnips? I'd have to make a separate storehouse... No, that won't work. Hmmm...

  • a) Suggest increasing security.
    • Bearnard: Increase security? Like traps? I wouldn't want some innocent creature to get caught in anything like that. Oh! I could put a sign out front that says "NO BULIS ALLOWED." That way Buli would know it's just for her.
    • . . .
    • Bearnard: Ah, but Buli already knows that I don't want her stealing my turnips. And I don't want to bar her from my shop, if she wants to come and do honest business. What else could I do...
  • b) Suggest sending something to Buli's house.
    • Bearnard: Send her something? Ah! I could send her a turnip box, but when she opens it, there's no turnips inside! There will just be a note that says "NO TURNIPS FOR DISHONEST THIEVES." Think that will send the message?
    • Um...
    • Bearnard: I guess it does seem like a needless waste of a perfectly good box. And it's not like Buli doesn't know that she's a thief. ...What else might work?
  • c) I'm out of ideas.

Bearnard: You too? This is harder than I thought it would be... The thing is, I don't want to hurt her. I just want her to stop. But every time I ask her to stop, she just laughs at me. Have you ever heard Buli laugh? It's very high pitched and difficult to listen to.

Bearnard sighs and shuts his ledgerbook.

Bearnard: Well, I can't stand around fussing about this forever. There's work to be done, and thinking so hard is just giving me a headache. Thanks for trying to help me. Even if it wasn't much good. Maybe Buli will have a change of heart. Or maybe she'll just get bored.

Bearnard rubs his head with another sigh before plodding off to the fields. It looks like Bearnard could use a hand. You should go talk to Buli and see what you can do.

  • Go find Buli.

You find Buli hauling a large sack of turnips toward the entrance to her shop. The sack is larger than her whole body.

Buli: Oh, hey there! Haven't seen you in a while. Or was it just yesterday? Either way, I'm busy - is there something you needed?

  • a) About those turnips you have there...
  • b) I have a question for you.

Buli raises her eyebrow with an amused smile.

Buli: What is it?

  • a) Are those turnips stolen?
    • Buli stares at you blankly for a moment, then bursts into laughter. It's quite high pitched. She laughs so hard that she has to set down her sack of turnips. The cord holding the sack shut falls open and you can see the piles of turnips inside.
    • Buli: Ahh, that was a good one. What are you getting at, exactly? We're partners in crime, aren't we?
      • a) About that... Isn't stealing wrong?
        • Buli sighs.
        • Buli: Did that old bear put you up to this? Look, either I use them for my experiments, or some confused World-hopper animates them on accident and they all walk away. If he's going to lose them either way, why shouldn't I at least benefit?
        • Try to persuade her to stop stealing.
        • You point out that if Bearnard gets so discouraged that he quits farming, there will be no one to make new turnips.
        • Buli: Hmm, you may have a point there. I never saw him as the kind of bear to give up on his work, but I suppose it's not impossible. I'll tell you what, why don't you bring him back some of these turnips? Think of it as an almost-peace offering. I'll still be using the rest for my experiments though.
        • You obtain 5 stolen turnips. They look healthy, but on the small side.
        • Buli: Was that all you wanted? I've got work to do, so I'll be on my way.
        • Buli picks up the turnip sack and hauls it inside.
        • Return to Bearnard.
        • Bearnard: Back so soon?
        • You hand over the 5 stolen turnips.
        • Bearnard: Where... where did you find these?
        • Buli gave them to me to give back to you.
        • Bearnard: Oh wow. I didn't think she'd really fess up or apologize. If this counts as an apology... You must have made an impression on her. I really appreciate it. Not to mention that you solved it honourably, without resorting to stealing. The world could always use more honest folks. Really, I just want Buli to apologize and stop stealing. Maybe this is a small step in that direction. Next time I see her, I'll try having a word. Thank you again. And, um. Don't be a stranger.
      • b) You're right. Actually, my pet is sick. Can you help?
  • b) ...how are the experiments going lately?
Rewards: Bearnard's Turnip Pannacotta, 1500 Potatoes, +3 Affection with Bearnard

Bearnard wants to teach Buli a lesson about stealing his turnips.

  • a) Agree with him.
  • b) Defend Buli. Dislike.-1

He asks for ideas on how to stop Buli from stealing.

  • a) Suggest increased security.
  • b) Suggest sending something to Buli's house.
  • c) I'm out of ideas.

Your ideas fall flat. You go to confront Buli, who is hauling a bag of turnips inside.

  • a) About those turnips you have there...
    • a) Are those turnips stolen?
      • a) About that... Isn't stealing wrong? (see outcome A)
      • b) You're right. Actually, my pet is sick. Can you help? (see outcome B)

    • b) How are the experiments going?
      • Actually, my pet is sick. (see outcome B)
  • Outcome A: Stealing is wrong
    • You try to persuade her to stop stealing. She claims if she doesn't take them, they'd just be animated by world-hoppers. Convincing her that Bearnard might quit if he gets too upset, she gives in a little.
    • You obtain 5 stolen turnips.
    • You return them to Bearnard, who thanks you for being honourable and not just stealing them back.
  • Outcome B: Sick pet
    • You trick Buli into thinking that your pet is sick. While taking a look at it, you snatch the stolen turnips.
    • You obtain 10 stolen turnips.
    • You return to Bearnard and hand over the turnips. Bearnard asks if you stole the turnips from Buli.
    • a) Well...
    • b) Explain everything.
    • c) Hesitate.
    • Bearnard doesn't approve of you stealing the turnips back.

Full Transcript
You arrive at the farm to see Bearnard leaning against a fence, his eyes closed. As you get closer, you realize that he's... fallen asleep?
  • a) Wake him up.
    • You nudge Bearnard's arm and he immediately wakes up with a start.
    • Bearnard: Whuh-! Oh, it's you.
  • b) Let him sleep.
    • You lean against the fence beside him and let him snooze. You watch the clouds to pass the time. After a few minutes, Bearnard stirs and mumbles something, rubbing his eyes with the back of his paw.
    • Bearnard: Mmmm... Oh! Hello, there.

Bearnard: Was I - Ah, never mind. What brings you back here?

  • a) I came to check on you.
    • Bearnard: I'm not a cub, I don't need to be coddled. But thank you for the thought, I suppose. I was just working in the fields today.
  • b) I came to visit you.
    • Bearnard: Thanks for that. Wish I could invite you in for a biscuit and some tea, but I've got to get back to work. Spent most of the day in the fields already.

Bearnard: Lot of things to get through. I'll... get right back to it...

Bearnard's speech slows down and his head starts to tilt to the side. It looks like he's starting to nod off again.

  • Are you okay?

Bearnard shakes his head.

Bearnard: What? Yeah, of course I'm fine.

  • a) Are you sure?
  • b) You don't look fine to me.

Bearnard: I think I know that I'm fine better than you.

  • I can tell you're not fine.

Bearnard glares at you for a few moments before letting out a heavy sigh.

Bearnard: You're a stubborn one, all right. Guess I was a fool for trying to shake you off. I'll explain myself, so stop looking at me like that. Been out in the fields for extra long days lately. Had a bit of a setback this season, need to work double-time to make up for it. Thought it would be wrapped up in less than a week, but somehow I'm still days behind... Got a little tuckered out trying to make up the difference, so I thought I'd just rest my eyes a moment... I must've nodded off.

  • a) It sounds like you need to hire a farmhand.
    • Bearnard: If I had the spare potatoes, maybe... But I've never done that before, and it's not so much work that I can't handle it on my own.
  • b) It sounds like you need a break.
    • Bearnard: If I take a break, even more work will pile up. Then it'll just get worse. I can't just leave the fields to the weeds.

Bearnard: Well... I thought I ought to be able to handle on my own.

  • Why not ask someone for help?

Bearnard scrunches his brow.

Bearnard: It's my farm, I ought to take care of it myself.

  • a) Just ask for help already.
    • Bearnard: Fine, fine. If you'll stop harassing me about it.
  • b) Ought and can are two different things.  +1 Affection
    • Bearnard: You're too young to be lecturing me. ... But you're right. All this time I've been saying "I should" this and "I ought to" that. It's different from actually being able to do it.
  • c) There's nothing wrong with asking for help. +1 Affection
    • Bearnard: ... ...I guess so.
    • Bearnard scratches the back of his head sheepishly.

Bearnard sighs and looks down at his paws. Bearnard: ... Do you have some time to spare?

  • a) Of course.
    • Bearnard: Alright. But only because I bet you'll hang around trying to do something even if I didn't ask. And because you've got that pet of yours. If they can help, it'll go even faster.
  • b) Actually, I'm busy right now. -1 Affection
    • Bearnard: Why did you go and say something like that if you were going to - Nevermind. Go on then, I'll finish up here on my own.
    • Bearnard returns to his fields, looking a bit deflated.
    • Bearnard: Still got plenty of work that needs doing.
      • Actually, I can help now.
        • Bearnard: Why didn't you just say that earlier? Since you're going to help, maybe that pet of yours can help too. Another pair of hands will make the work go even faster.
      • Leave.

Reward: Bearnard's Red Ribbon Sun Hat

Bearnard: First things first, when you're working then you've got to wear proper work clothes.

Bearnard hands you his sun hat.

Bearnard: This should keep the sun out of your eyes and the fatigue away. I'll be honest with you, nothing beats a good sun hat. On top of keeping the sun out of your eyes, it also keeps your hair out of your face... Not that I have hair but you know. Let's feed your pet too. Can't have them working on an empty stomach.

Bearnard produces a wrapped up cake and hands it to you. It's a bit squashed but looks appetizing enough. Your pet sniffs it with interest.

Bearnard: Let me know when you're ready.

Go equip Bearnard's Red Ribboned Sun Hat and make sure to feed your active pet the Tenacious Cheesecake!

  • a) Go feed your active pet and put on the sun hat.
  • b) Okay, I'm ready. (Fed 1/1 Times)

Bearnard: Alright, you've got your hat on and your pet looks happy and fed. All good to go here. Follow me.

  • Follow Bearnard.

You follow Bearnard through his fields until you come to a large field that looks a lot less healthy than the other plots.

Bearnard: This is the patch that got hit with a turnip blight. Had to take some measures to make sure the disease didn't spread. Now we've got to dig up all the rotten turnips and dispose of them properly. What? I didn't say it was going to be pleasant work.

Bearnard hands you a shovel, then hands a small trowel to your pet.

Bearnard: Okay. Let's get to it.

  • a) Jump right in.  +2 Tenacity
    • You pick up the shovel and get hard to work at the first row of rotten turnips, digging them up one after the other while Bearnard collects them in bags and hauls the bags off to the side. Your pet, wielding their new trusty trowel, checks over the holes you dig and cleans up any remaining roots or debris. Working at a brisk pace, you plow through a few rows all at once before it starts to take a toll on you.
    • Bearnard: Hah... Hah... Say, your pet is looking pretty tired. Why don't we take a short break? For your pet's sake.
      • Put down your shovel.
    • You, your pet, and Bearnard sit down beside the fence to rest up for a moment. Bearnard: You weren't kidding about wanting to help. I'll give you credit for your determination. I can't blame you for nagging though. I was the same way with my family when I was a young bear.
      • Ask about Bearnard's family.
  • b) Pace yourself.  +2 Honour
    • You get to work on the first row of rotten turnips, but you make sure to pace yourself so you don't get tired out too fast. Before long, you set a steady rhythm between the three of you. You dig up the rotten turnips one after the other, while Bearnard collects them in bags and hauls the bags off to the side. Your pet, wielding their new trusty trowel, checks over the holes you dig and cleans up any remaining roots or debris. Working at this pace, you're able to trade friendly conversation as you go.
    • Bearnard: I got to hand it to you, you really followed through. I didn't think it would go this smoothly. You're a person of your word, I'll give you that. Sorry to make you worry. I know what it feels like to be the one worrying - I was the same way with my family when I was a young bear.
      • Ask about Bearnard's family.

Bearnard: I guess I don't talk about it much, huh. Yeah, I used to have a... well, calling them my parent isn't quite right. They took me in when I was just a cub, didn't have any family of my own. Back then, they were the leader of Louise Hill.

  • Louise Hill has a leader?

Bearnard: Not really. Before I grew up and took over the farm, they decided to leave Louise Hill. It's sort of complicated. But it's not a huge problem for the village. Even without a leader, most folks mind their own business and the village takes care of itself. That's why, even though they weren't that great at being a leader, the village didn't do any worse for it. They were always lazing around and leaving things to the last minute, never taking anything seriously... No matter how much I bugged them, it never changed their attitude. Wouldn't have guessed I'd turn out just as stubborn. Look at me, running my mouth. I think that's enough for a break.

  • Get back to work.

The three of you pick up your shovels and get back to work.

  1. Jumped right in: After some time, and a few more breaks, you manage to clear the whole field.
  2. Paced yourself: The three of you continue working in the pattern that you've established, and before long you manage to clear the whole field.

Bearnard: Wow, we really finished it. This would've taken ages for just one person. Now that this is out of the way, I think I can handle the rest on my own. Though if anything else comes up, well...

  • a) You can just ask for help again.
    • Bearnard: Would that it were that easy... It's hard to just ask for help from people. This time it was a little easier because you were so persistent, but I'm not expecting you to just pop out of nowhere when I've got too much to handle alone.
  • b) You can just slave away by yourself.
    • Bearnard: Don't think I don't catch your sarcasm, world-hopper. It's hard to just ask for help from people.

Bearnard: I always say I'm a solitary bear, everyone knows it. Been that way a long time, ever since this farm went from being a two-person operation to just me. Suddenly turning around and asking for folks to put down their important business to help me... It's not easy.

  • a) People want to help.
    • Bearnard sighs and rubs his paws.
    • Bearnard: Yeah, I know that most folk are good folk. Somehow it's still hard even though I know that.
  • b) It gets easier with practice.
    • Bearnard: Gosh, I hope so.
    • Bearnard's nose twitches nervously.

Maybe it would be easier on Bearnard to suggest one person he can ask for help next time. Next time, he can ask...

  • Calbet. +1 Affection
    • You suggest asking Calbet for help next time Bearnard feels overworked.
    • Bearnard: Calbet? That boy usually seems more interested in being "cool" than doing any serious work... But he is pretty serious about being a social guide. And farming is part of Louise Hill society. Okay. Next time, I'll try asking him.
  • Old Farmhand.  +1 Affection
    • You suggest asking the Old Farmhand for help next time Bearnard feels overworked.
    • Bearnard: The Old Farmhand? He's always struck me as a bit of an odd one. Hard to believe he really is a farmhand. But if he's got some time to spare from his work on other farms, then maybe...Okay. Next time, I'll try asking him.
  • Lilia. +1 Affection
    • You suggest asking Lilia for help next time Bearnard feels overworked.
    • Bearnard: Lilia? She always seems so busy with her knight training, waving that big old lance around all day... But, farm work is a good way to build up muscle strength. And she's always going on about how it's a knight's job to help people. Okay. Next time, I'll try asking her.
  • Fantasia.  +1 Affection
    • You suggest asking Fantasia for help next time Bearnard feels overworked.
    • Bearnard: Fantasia? Don't know much about them, to be honest. Can't get a good read on them, even when we do talk. But if you say they're worth asking, then they must be trustworthy... And Lilia seems to be plenty fond of them too. Okay. Next time, I'll try asking them.
  • Buli.  +1 Affection
    • You suggest asking Buli for help next time Bearnard feels overworked.
    • Bearnard: Buli? Really? What makes you think she'd want to help me? She's only ever causing me trouble and stealing my turnips. Though... If she likes turnips so much, why shouldn't she work hard to help grow them for a change? Well, I wouldn't be surprised if she laughed in my face. Or ignored me. It's 50-50. But if that's the case, I guess I have nothing to lose. Maybe I'll try asking Buli for help next time.

Bearnard: And, uh... I think I owe you a thank you. I'll try working on asking people for help, and not being so stubborn. Not many folks I can talk about this sort of touchy-feely stuff with. So thanks for all the help, and for lending an an old bear your ear for a while. I think I'll get a good night's sleep tonight.

You arrive at Buli's shop to find that she's not at her usual post behind the front desk. As you approach the chance machine, you notice that the door behind the counter is slightly ajar. A sign hanging from the doorknob says "PRIVATE, DO NOT ENTER." Dimly flickering lights and a whirring sound are coming from inside.
  • a) Take a peek inside.
  • b) Call out Buli's name.
    • There's no response... ⤴
  • c) Come back later.

You walk behind the counter and push the door open to peek inside. Sprite lanterns hanging from the ceiling illuminate a large back room with various work stations and storage racks. It smells like earth and ozone. Dozens of strange contraptions are crammed onto the available work space, each of which has a fresh turnip hooked up to the rigging in some way. Some of them are currently in motion, glowing and whirring, while others seem to be in the process of being assembled. Jugs and bottles of various sizes and shapes line the shelves of a storage rack to your left. About half of them are filled with blue, shimmering essence. One side of the room is dedicated to a mahogany writing desk and large collages of writings and graphs pinned to the wall. A cork board beside the desk is divided into four sections, each marked with a colored tag - yellow, red, green, blue. A sense of powerful magic overflows from the room. Buli herself is nowhere to be seen.

  • a) Examine the mysterious writings and graphs on the wall.
    • You approach the wall with various writings and graphs to take a closer look. It appears to be written in some kind of code that would probably take quite some time to crack. Based on the sketches, it looks like the different sections of the cork board correspond to Buli's notes on the four different types of world-hoppers. Beside the board, there's a calendar with different colored tallies on each of the days. As you flip back through the calendar pages, you notice that the tallies suddenly increase after a date circled with shiny silver ink. A white feather quill sits on the top shelf of the writing desk beside seven pots of colored ink.
      • a) Try out the pen. (?)
      • b) Pocket a memo. (?)
      • c) Previous options.
      • d) Leave before Buli returns.
  • b) Inspect the various essence containers.
    • You approach the storage rack and peer at the many containers of essence. Each bottle is labeled with a small symbol and a date. Partially hidden behind the rack is a strange, cauldron-like machine. It's empty, but a few essence bottles sit unopened beside it.
      • a) Pocket a bottle.
        • You lift your hand, but before you can do anything you hear the doo swing open behind you. You turn to see a furious Buli standing in the doorway.
      • b) Open a bottle. (?)
      • c) Previous options.
      • d) Leave before Buli returns.
  • c) Observe the strange contraptions.
    • You approach one of the work stations and peer at the magical contraption. Four glass cylinders are hooked up to four separate turnip containers by a series of brass tubes, which all appear to be controlled by a complicated board of switches and knobs. Each turnip container is marked with a colored tag. There's a notebook sitting beside the control board but you can't make heads or tails of the writing.
      • a) Flip a switch. (?)
      • b) Turn a knob. (?)
      • c) Previous options.
      • d) Leave before Buli returns.

You turn to leave, only to see a furious Buli standing in the doorway.

Buli: What are YOU doing in here?!

  • Try to explain yourself.

You try to explain the situation, but Buli is still scowling at you with her arms folded.

Buli: Yeah, I'm sure you ACCIDENTALLY wandered into a private room while I wasn't around. More importantly, you didn't snoop into any of my experiments, did you?

  • a) I may have looked around a little... -3 Affection
    • Buli: You WHAT?
  • b) N-no, I only just got here before you came. I didn't see anything, I swear! -3 Affection
    • Buli stares you down with an angry look on her face. She definitely doesn't believe your shaky attempt at hiding the truth...
    • Buli: I don't believe that for one second!

Buli: Do you know how important it is to protect intellectual property during the early stages of experimentation? I just HATE when something gets spoiled before it's finished!

Buli pauses to take a deep breath, unfolding her arms.

Buli: Now that you've seen this much, I don't think I can let you leave...

  • Nervously apologize.

Buli: Apologizing won't erase what you've seen from your brain. So I think you owe it to me to volunteer yourself to be part of one of my experiments now... If my hypothesis is correct, you might end up with your memories wiped clean. Just like when you first got here. Of course, I can't comment on any potential side-effects.

  • a) Try to reason with her.
    • You explain that even though you looked around a little, there was no way you could understand anything.
    • Buli: You have a point. You'd have to be a genius to break my code. Besides, it's not really worth wiping your memories when we already have a good working relationship. I guess you can start getting back on my good side by getting out of my lab immediately.
  • b) Beg for forgiveness.
    • You insist that you had no intention of snooping. Even your pet makes their most apologetic face. Buli stares you down for a few moments before sniffing and turning up her nose.
    • Buli: Well, you seem sincere enough. But you know what the best apology would be? If you GOT OUT OF MY LAB RIGHT NOW.

  • Leave the lab.

Buli ushers you back to the front room of her shop, still huffing and puffing.

Buli: The issue still remains of you going back into my private quarters without being invited. Maybe I should just ban you from my chance machine shop forever...

  • Please don't! Isn't there some way that I could make it up to you?

Buli considers this for a moment, her expression slowly shifting from vexed to thoughtful.

Buli: Hmm... I am a little short on funds this month. Spinning my chance machine might persuade me to feel a little more forgiving. Three times should do the trick.

  • a) Okay, I'm on it!
  • b) Isn't that extortion?
    • Buli: Do you want to be forgiven or not? ⤴

You notice Buli sitting behind her desk, watching you expectantly.

Buli: Have you spun my chance machine 3 times yet?

  • a) Oh um, I was just leaving...
  • b) Yep! (Gacha'd 3 Times)

Reward: +1 Comprehension

Buli: Great, thank you for your business! I didn't think you'd actually have enough for 3 spins, so color me impressed. Science isn't cheap, so it really does help to have people support my work. It's more important than most people realize, and way more valuable than just some turnips and potatoes. That said, I need turnips and potatoes to keep it going! So I'm glad that you've proven perceptive enough to appreciate the importance of regular patronage. In honor of your appreciation for the sciences, I'll allow you to ask one question. Of course, if it's something I don't want to share, I'm not obligated to answer it. You get one chance.

What would you like to ask Buli about?

  • a) What were those strange contraptions?
    • Buli: I shouldn't have to explain that I'm experimenting on turnips. By now, you've probably animated a turnip or two yourself. We both know that world-hoppers have special magic that can animate objects, but where does that magic come from? Are there ways to make it stronger, or weaker? Maybe you've learned a little bit about your magic on your travels too. If you come across any good data, you'd be wise to share it with your favorite researcher.
  • b) What was written on all of those notes on the wall? (?)
  • c) What do you do with all of that essence in your lab? (?)
  • d) Who are you really, Buli?
    • Buli gives you an odd look.
    • Buli: What do you mean? I'm Buli. What a silly waste of a question.

Buli: Well, this has been fun, but I have work to do. Don't forget to stop by and spin my chance machine again soon. You know, for science!

Rewards: 1500 Potatoes + Buli's Blue Bow Cake

You find Buli's Laboratory, seemingly empty.

  • a) Call out Buli's name.
  • b) Take a peek inside.

Getting no response, you walk behind the counter and push the door open to peek inside. You find a curious laboratory, filled with writings and graphs, shimmering essences, and turnips hooked up to contraptions.

  • a) Examine the writings and graphs.
    • a) Try out the pen.
    • b) Pocket a memo.
    • c) Leave before Buli returns.

Description "Buli's in a great mood and wants to learn new things."
Full Transcript
As you pass by Buli's shop, you notice Buli taking various measurements of her front yard with a meter stick and marking off a small plot with string. She hums to herself as she drives a wooden stake into the ground with a heavy bronze bookend as a hammer. It looks like she's in a good mood today.
  • a) Say hello.
    • You call out to Buli to say hello. She pauses with her bookend held aloft, but smiles and puts it down when she sees you.
  • b) Keep on walking.

Buli: Hello, world-hopper! Good timing, I was just thinking of a new riddle. Think you can solve it?

  • a) Let's hear it.
  • b) I'm a little busy right now.

Buli: My first half is unexpected, / For the worse, perhaps sour. It's what clock needles do / With the passing of the hour. My second half is lighter, / Moving skyward so high, It's where balloons go / When you let them fly. What am I?

  • a) Let's hear it one more time.
  • b) I know the answer.
    • Buli: Really? I hope you're sure of that, because I'm only giving you one shot. Okay, what's the first letter of the answer?
      • a) H.
      • b) T. +1 Comprehension.
        • Buli: T is for... turnip! That's correct!
      • c) S.
      • d) Q.
  • c) I give in.

Buli: The first half was "turn" and the second half was "up," which when you put them together sounds like "turnip." I know the sounds don't perfectly match - but you got it right, didn't you? That just shows how clever you are. Then again, maybe it was too easy. If you've been spending this much time with me, then you should at least know how I feel about turnips. Speaking of which, I have another question for you. Don't worry, this one is much easier. How much do you know about gardening? I've been thinking about growing my own turnips to stabilize my supply, but I don't really have a green thumb.

  • a) I've learned some things from Bearnard.
  • b) I know how it works in theory.
  • c) Not much, to be honest.
    • Buli: That's a little disappointing. I was hoping I could borrow some of your knowledge without having to read up on it myself.
    • Buli: Say, you're on better terms with Bearnard than I am. Go spend some time with him and see if you can leech any of his gardening smarts. Or maybe he has some books lying around about farming. I'd read them myself if I didn't have better things to do. Try it out and let me know how it goes.
    • You should raise your affection with Bearnard to 75, or raise your comprehension to 40, then come back and talk to Buli.
      • Leave.

Buli: Hey, world-hopper. Did you learn anything about gardening?

  • a) I've learned some things from Bearnard.
  • b) I studied enough that I can figure it out.
  • c) Still working on it.

You explain to Buli the basics of caring for a small garden, based on what you've picked up on your journey.

Buli: Hm, a lot of that seems... fairly obvious. But it's probably easier said than done. I don't want to sink too many hours into fumbling around on my own, so will you help me out with getting my turnip garden started? First, we'll need some supplies. I've... acquired most of the gardening tools, but I'm missing some important things. It's just a gardening experiment, so two Seedlings, a Misshapen Turnip, a Pumpkin, and a Cabbage for fertilizer should work. Think you can handle that?

  • Sure thing.

Buli: Okay, I'll finish up clearing out this plot. Come back when you've got two Seedlings, a Misshapen Turnip, a Pumpkin, and a Cabbage.

Buli: Do you have those things yet?

You need two Seedlings, a Misshapen Turnip, a Pumpkin, and a Cabbage.

  • a) I have them right here.
  • b) I'll be back.

You hand over the seedling and fertilizer to Buli. In return, she hands you a pair of gloves.

Reward: Bearnard's Farming Gloves

Buli: Put your gloves on - how else are you going to help me plant these seedlings?

  • a) Equip your Farming Gloves.
  • b) Okay, I have my gloves on.

Buli: Good. It's not like we're working with any corrosive materials, but wearing gloves seems to be good gardening practice.

You follow Buli, stepping over the small rope fence she's made, and crouch down beside her in her garden. She pulls out her field notebook and opens to a fresh page, pen at the ready.

Buli: You plant the first one, and explain all the little tricks while you're doing it. Then I'll copy you for the second one.

  • a) Carefully plant the seedling.
    • You pick up a spade and dig out a small hole, gently placing the seedling inside before covering it up with a thin layer of dirt.
    • Your explanation is equally unhurried, giving Buli plenty of time to take notes. She nods, pressing her lips together.
    • Buli: Hmm... It doesn't seem like I was particularly sloppy in comparison. If anything, I was more precise.
  • b) Haphazardly plant the seedling.
    • You shove some earth to the side and drop the seedling in the hole, messily covering it up again with a thin layer of dirt. Your explanation is equally half-baked. Buli watches you and listens to your slapdash explanation with a skeptical frown.
    • Buli: Is it really okay to be that sloppy?

Buli: Then why did all my past attempts at gardening fail?

  • a) The weeding and watering is more important.
    • Buli: Water at regular intervals and de-weeding, yes? But perhaps there's some technique I'm missing there too. How tiresome.
  • b) It's because I'm magical.

Buli: Alright, I will try to plant the next one.

  • What do you need all these turnips for again?

Buli: Why, turnips are good wholesome tubers that make a good soup base. What's so strange about wanting to raise my own?

  • We both no there's no reason to play dumb. = +3 Affection.
    • Buli: Since when were you such a smooth talker? It must be my good influence rubbing off on you.
  • Be honest, Buli.

Buli: You've already guessed by now, haven't you? Of all the objects I've studied, turnips are the easiest to animate.

  • Can you use animation magic?

Buli: If I could, that would mean that I'm a world-hopper too.

  • Are you?

Buli: Just telling you isn't any fun. Try to use what you know to figure it out.

Buli turns back to her turnip plot and carefully plants the seedling, patting the ground down around it with her gloved hands.

Buli: How long do turnips take to grow? 5 weeks at the earliest? That's a great deal longer than how long it takes to animate them - maybe I'll stagger the next batch.

  • a) Why do you want to animate things so quickly?
  • b) Why do you need so many?

Buli: You must have gotten into alchemy by now, so I think you know the answer to that too.

Buli finishes planting the seedling, then reaches into her bag and pulls out a slim blue bottle with some kind of liquid inside.

  • a) What is that?
  • b) Don't change the subject.
    • Buli ignores you and goes on with what she was doing.

Buli: I heard that turnips don't transplant particularly well, but I wanted to harvest them as soon as possible. So I mixed up a little something to help them along. Let's just test it out on this second one.

Buli uncaps the bottle's thin spout and taps out a few drops onto the earth where the turnip seedling is buried. The droplets produce tiny plumes of light blue steam as they hiss and dissolve into the dirt. Buli smiles in satisfaction as she replaces the bottle cap and tucks the potion back into her purse.

  • a) You're pretty amazing, Buli. = +2 Charm.
    • Buli: Thank you. But in this case, flattery isn't going to get you any bonus information.
    • Buli: I'll give you points for trying though.
  • b) You're kind of strange, Buli.

Buli: To be honest, it doesn't particularly matter to me what people think of what I do, or how I do it. What matters is results. Maybe you could learn from that philosophy too. After all, you've been here for some time now and how much do you know about your magic, or where it came from? Some food for thought.

Buli: Well, I've got to get back to my lab. Can't leave things unattended for too long. You should keep stopping by to check on my garden. I plan to keep adding to it over time. Maybe in a few year's time, it'll be even bigger than Bearnard's farm. That would be too much work to handle by myself though. Hmm... Say, world-hopper, are you looking for a job?

  • b) Time to complete the quest and escape.
  • c) Nod, smile, and complete the quest.
Rewards: Essence Jug, Buli's Magic Golden Pots, Buli's Totem, Buli's Scientific Equipment, 5000 Potatoes

It looks like Buli's in a good mood.

  • a) Say hello.
  • b) Keep walking.

Buli: "I was just thinking of a new riddle. Think you can solve it?"

  • a) Let's hear it.
  • b) I'm a little busy right now. (pause quest)

Buli: "My first half is unexpected, / For the worse, perhaps sour. It's what clock needles do / With the passing of the hour. My second half is lighter, / Moving skyward so high. It's where balloons go / When you let them fly. What am I?"

  • a) Let me hear it one more time. (repeat riddle)
  • b) I know the answer. (one try)
    • Buli: "What's the first letter of the answer?"
      • a) H.
      • b) T. (correct answer) +1 Comprehension.
        • Buli: "T is for... Turnip! That's correct!"
      • c) S.
      • d) Q.
  • c) I give in.

Buli: "The first half was "turn" and the second half was "up," which when you put them together sounds like "turnip." "

Buli then asks you how much you know about gardening. She's been thinking about growing her own turnips to stabilize her supply, but she doesn't really have a green thumb.

  • a) I've learned some things from Bearnard. (If Bearnard's affection is 75+)
  • b) I know how it works in theory. (If Comprehension Comprehension. is at least 40)
  • c) Not much, to be honest.
    • You should raise your affection with Bearnard to 75, or raise your comprehension to 40, then come back and talk to Buli.

You explain to Buli the basics of caring for a small garden, based on what you've picked up from Bearnard. She muses that it seems fairly obvious, but is likely easier said than done, and dispatches you to collect some supplies.

Fetch two Seedlings, a Misshapen Turnip, a Pumpkin, and a Cabbage.

After Buli gives you a pair of gloves, she demands that you equip them.

  • a) Equip the Farming Gloves.
    • Place Bearnard's Farming Gloves in your Wardrobe if they are not there already, then equip them to your outfit and save your avatar.
  • b) Okay, I have my gloves on.

Buli: "You plant the first one, and explain all the little tricks while you're doing it. Then I'll copy you for the second one."

  • a) Carefully plant the seedling.
  • b) Haphazardly plant the seedling.

Buli watches you critically as you plant the seedling and mentions that she didn't do it much differently than you did, then wonders why her past attempts at gardening failed.

  • a)The watering and weeding is more important.
  • b) Because I'm magical.

Buli decides to plant the next one.

  • What do you need all these turnips for again?

Buli: "What's so strange about wanting to raise my own?"

  • a) We both know there's no reason to play dumb. +3 Affection.
  • b) Be honest, Buli.

Buli: "You've already guessed by now, haven't you? Of all the objects I've studied, turnips are the easiest to animate."

  • Can you use animation magic?

Buli: "If I could, that would mean that I'm a world-hopper too."

  • Are you?

Buli slyly mentions that she won't tell you, then finishes planting the seedling and complains about turnips taking 5 weeks to grow while animation magic is so much faster.

  • a) Why do you want to animate things quickly?
  • b) Why do you need so many?

Buli: "You must have gotten into alchemy by now, so I think you know the answer to that too."

She pulls out a slim blue bottle with some kind of liquid inside.

  • a) What is that?
  • b) Don't change the subject.

It seems she's mixed up something to help the turnips grow faster. Buli pours the liquid on the planted seedlings, and it hisses blue steam as it dissolves into the ground.

  • a) You're pretty amazing, Buli. +2 Charm.
  • b) You're kind of strange, Buli.

Buli explains that she doesn't care what people think about her or her methods - what matters is results. She then also pointedly suggests that you could do the same, since you've been here for a while and still don't know much about your magic. After mentioning that she plans to grow her garden bigger than Bearnard's, she asks you if you're looking for a job.

  • a) Time to complete the quest and escape.
  • b) Nod, smile, and complete the quest.

Calbet: Calbet's Correspondence[]

Quest Giver Calbet
Prerequisites Main Quest: Meeting Calbet
Description "You get a little insight into Calbet's frustrations."
Full Transcript
You find Calbet behind the tavern, firing arrows at a wooden post with a piece of paper pinned to it. He's pretty focused on what he's doing and doesn't seem to notice you approach.
  • a) Say Hello. (?)
  • b) Keep quiet and observe.
    • Maybe it's just you, but you swear Calbet looks a bit upset.
    • a) Say hello. (?)
    • b) Ask if he's okay.
      • Calbet: Huh? Oh... it's just you. I'm totally fine or whatever! Why would you even ask me that? That was kinda lame of you when I'm obviously not upset or anything!

Calbet: Anyway, while you're here you might as well help me out. Pull my arrows out of the post, would you? And throw away that paper, too.

Before you can respond, he marches past you towards the front of the tavern, bow clutched tightly in his hands.

  • Retrieve the arrows.

You approach the post to pull out the arrows, when Calbet's target catches your eye. It has some sort of handwritten text on it. "Dearest Calbet, I hope you're doing well! We sent you another bushel of carrots. I hope you got them." Is this... a letter? You glance at the bottom of the page. It's signed, "Love, Ma and Pa!"

  • a) Take the letter.
    • You hold onto the letter - this doesn't seem like the kind of thing you should throw away. You return to the front of the tavern where Calbet is waiting and he looks at you expectantly.
    • Calbet: Well?
    • Ask about the letter.
    • You show Calbet the letter. It's torn in places from his archery practice, but still recognizable. He reaches for it, confused, then blushes bright red as he realizes what it is.
    • Calbet: Why did you pick that up? That's t-totally... uncool! ...Wait. You didn't read it, did you?!
    • a) I... Well... (?)
    • b) Of course not! +3 Affection
      • He seems to believe you.
      • Calbet: W-well good! That would have been totally lame of you.
  • b) Throw it away.
    • [Missing text]
    • a) Ask about the letter. (?)
    • b) Give him the arrows.
      • [Missing text]
      • a) Say Something. (?)
      • b) Stay Quiet. (?)

Calbet: It's not important, anyway! I have thousands more just like it. All those boring letters do is remind me why I moved to Louise Hill in the first place. I did have a reason besides this place desperately needing to up its cool factor, you know.

  • Ask why he moved.

Calbet: I don't really like to talk about it. But I guess I can make an exception this time... I know you appreciate my coolness - like everyone else around here - but it wasn't always like that. Where I grew up, I got teased all the time. Probably because they were super jealous of me. Or - it was my parents' fault! They always made me these lunches with nothing but vegetables. Before long, everyone started calling me CALbage! You know, because it sounds like cabbage - but mixed with my name. And my parents still kept forcing me to eat vegetables anyway! They just don't get it at all. That's why I moved away, as soon as I was old enough.

  • a) I like vegetables.
    • Calbet: I knew you wouldn't understand. That's why I didn't bother telling you about it in the first place. Cabbages are the most uncool thing in the entire world.
  • b) That sounds awful. (?)
  • c) Was it really that bad? (?)

Calbet: So when I was old enough, I left that place in a hurry. Now I totally have lots of friends and everyone loves me, and I don't need those rude kids anymore! Or my parents!

  • a) You don't miss your parents at all? (?)
  • b) You're better off without them.
    • Calbet: Yeah, totally! It feels good to get that off my chest.

Calbet: Way to like, be a good listener. That's a great way to make people like you. Anyway, I bet talking about other stuff will make me feel better.

He turns and walks a few steps, then glances back over his shoulder at you.

Calbet: Well? C'mon, let's go.

  • Follow Calbet.

Calbet leads you around the edge of town, onto a grassy knoll on the outskirts. When you reach the top of the hill, he plops down with a sigh, setting his bow beside him.

Calbet: I come up here sometimes when I'm upset. It's like, the one place I won't tell newbies about when they ask for a tour. I like socializing, but sometimes it's nice to go someplace quiet. It helps add to your cool and mysterious factor, if you're going for that vibe.

  • a) Admire the beautiful view.
    • You can see all of Louise Hill from where you're standing. There's Bearnard, tending to his turnip field... Lilia and Fantasia, taking a break near their training dummies... It feels different seeing the town from this angle. There's something uniquely relaxing about it.
  • b) Quietly sit next to Calbet.

Calbet: So like, what about you? Are your parents totally lame, too?

  • a) Shrug.
    • [Missing text]
    • Calbet: "Does it bother you they aren't around?"
  • b) I don't remember...
    • Calbet: Oh... of course! How could I forget? You're a world-hopper, so you don't have any memories of your past. That was pretty rude of me. That'll hurt my popularity score for sure. But um, does it like... bother you? That your parents aren't around?

[Does it bother you that they aren't around?]

  • a) A little. (?)
  • b) Not really.
    • Calbet: Really? Not even a little?

Calbet: I mean like - obviously I'm totally fine without my parents, but... I guess it would be kind of... weird not having them around. I never really thought about that before. I always assumed they'd be, like... around to annoy me until I get old and...

He seems to get lost in thought for a moment.

Calbet: Hmm... I need to ask you for a favor. Which is totally fine since you're already indebted to me for helping you around Louise Hill, right? You know those like... totally archaic and lame waste-of-time forums that I told you to avoid? You know, the ones Farmhand is so fond of? Well... my parents actually like that sort of thing. I know, I know - it's 'cause they're old and uncool. So it might help to like... go post on them. You know - just to see what it's about? Obviously I can't do it - my image is too important to lose face now! I'd just really appreciate it or whatever. Uh... don't say I sent you though, and try not to post meaningless things alright?

    • a) Um...
      • Calbet: Do you get what I'm asking you here? You need to be up to your elbows in old people wisdom. Otherwise I'll never understand my parents! Now hurry up! I mean, if you don't mind... It's fine. I can wait. But really, hurry up.
      • I'll get to it.
    • b) Yep, I learned a lot! (Posted 3/3 Times)

Calbet: Ughhh, I can smell it on you. Outdated social funk. Gross! I mean - thanks. Really. Don't worry, you'll get your cool points back in no time. But I have a few questions for you, while you're still like, under the old people spell. Would you sacrifice your happiness for someone else's?

  • a) In a heartbeat. (?)
  • b) Under the right circumstances...
    • Calbet: I see...
  • c) No, it's important to look out for yourself. (?)

Calbet: What about vegetables? How do you feel about them now?

  • a) I love vegetables!
    • Calbet stares at you thoughtfully.
    • Calbet: Hmm.
  • b) They're okay, in moderate amounts. (?)
  • c) I would rather die than eat a vegetable. (?)

Calbet: Okay, last question - what's the most important thing to you?

  • a) Helping other people. (?)
  • b) Figuring out where I came from. (?)
  • c) I don't know yet, I'm still trying to find out. (?)
  • d) You are, of course... +1 Affection
    • Calbet: Hah! That's like, a great answer if you're trying to sweet-talk someone. Naturally I can see right through that sort of thing, but nice try.

Calbet: Seriously though, I don't know if I understand things any better than before... But still, it was like, really cool of you to do that for me. I think I might try and visit my parents sometime or something. They're still annoying, but you've made me remember that I care about them too. I guess you're a pretty tenacious world-hopper, aren't you? Thanks for helping me out. See you around.

Calbet is loitering by the tavern entrance, lost in thought. When he sees you he perks up a bit.

Calbet: Busy making the rounds again, huh? Yep, I definitely taught you well... everyone's been heaping praises on me for how helpful you are. Well - they would be if they knew I was your mentor. But you know me. I'm like, too humble to go around announcing it to everyone. Anyway, if you're not too busy, I thought maybe we could hang out or something.

  • a) Sure!
  • b) I'll come back later.
    • When you return, Calbet is still waiting by the tavern.
    • Calbet: Finally. Are you ready now?
    • a) Nod.
    • b) I'm still working on it...

Calbet nods sagely.

Calbet: Of course, it'd be silly to pass up an opportunity to hang with me. I'll have to clear my schedule first, of course. There are loads of other people I was planning to see, but they can wait. While I'm taking care of that, you could bring me some things that we'll need for what I have planned. A pumpkin and cabbage would work well. And before you say anything uncool about it, yes I know - I don't like vegetables even though I'm asking you for them. Just get them, I'll explain later. In the meantime, I'll be here. Uh, clearing my schedule. Obviously.

  • a) Go find a Pumpkin and Cabbage. / Go find a Pumpkin. / Go find a Cabbage.
    • Calbet is exactly where you left him, glancing over a piece of parchment.
    • Calbet: Well, did you get those items yet?
    • Calbet wants you to bring him a Pumpkin and Cabbage.
      • Show him your Pumpkin and Cabbage.
        • Calbet: About time. These look really fresh, though - nice work.
  • b) Show Calbet your Pumpkin and Cabbage.
    • Calbet: Oh, you came prepared. Nice.
  • c) Ask what the Pumpkin and Cabbage are for.
    • Calbet: You'll find out! Impatience is totally uncool, you know. I hoped you would've learned from my example. I definitely don't rush people. It's one of my best qualities! For now let's just say it's a surprise, okay?
    • Calbet wants you to bring him a Pumpkin and Cabbage.

Calbet: So... do you know much about cooking?

  • a) Not really.
    • Calbet: My parents actually own this restaurant with like, really unique veggie recipes. It's kinda their specialty. Even though I hate vegetables, I still remember learning a trick or two from them. And well, vegetable desserts are a little less awful than regular vegetable recipes. So I thought I'd make something for us to share. We can have a picnic or something. Outdoorsy activities are all the rage right now, after all.
      • a) Vegetable dessert? (?)
      • b) That sounds nice! +1 Affection
        • Calbet: Yeah? Well, of course it does! I know all about what people like, so I was totally sure you'd be into it. Anyway, I modified one of my dad's recipes to use either of these items. All you need to do is tell me which one you'd like to try more. You know what pumpkins and cabbages taste like, right?
          • a) Shrug.
            • Calbet: What do you mean you haven't eaten them before? You obviously know what they are... I mean, what else would you even do with these if you don't eat them?
              • a) I animate them into cute creatures!
                • Calbet: Hold up - you're saying you can make items into like, living things?
  • b) I know a little.
    • Calbet: I didn't know that you were interested in cooking. My parents actually own this restaurant with like, really unique veggie recipes. It's kinda their specialty. • Calbet: Hold up - you're saying you can make items into like, living things?
  • c) Does alchemizing pets count?
    • Calbet: Alche... what? That sounds like the weird kind of stuff that Farmhand is into...
      • Explain the basic concept.
        • Calbet stares at you in wide-eyed surprise.
        • Calbet: ...I don't get that at all. How could you cook something that was alive? And where do you get these pets, anyway? Do you just go around grabbing up innocent animals and shoving them into your alchemy pot? 'Cause that's like, totally uncool!
          • a) No, I animate them from items with my world-hopper magic.
          • b) That's exactly what I do. -1 Affection
              • Calbet: Ha ha, very funny. Sarcasm is like, so last year.

Calbet: This whole thing sounds completely ridiculous. But... I feel like we know each other pretty well now. So I don't think you'd lie to me... And my instincts about people are totally on the nose.

Calbet thinks for a moment.

Calbet: Is there anyone else that knows a lot about this world-hopper stuff?

  • Buli seems to know more about it than I do, even.

Calbet: B-Buli?

He considers the possibility for a while before finally nodding with determination.

Calbet: I guess it can't be helped. We need to go see Buli so she can confirm your crazy story. But, uh... you take the lead, okay?

  • Venture to Buli's house with Calbet.

When you arrive, Buli is organizing a few of the wares on display in her shop. She quickly glances up as you approach.

Buli: Hello, world-hopper. Something on your mind?

  • Calbet has a question for you.

Buli: He does? It's nice of you to ask for him then. Did he trick you into running errands to "raise your popularity?"

Confused, you glance around... but Calbet is nowhere to be found. Until you notice a pair of rabbit ears sticking out from behind a large urn.

Buli: Well? What was his question?

  • a) Attempt to coax Calbet out of hiding.
    • Calbet's ears zip out of sight suddenly. You get the impression that, for some reason, he really doesn't want Buli to know that he's around.
      • a) Force Calbet out of hiding.
        • You walk over to Calbet's hiding spot, intent on dragging him out. ...but there's no one here. Where did he go?
        • Buli: Why do you look so confused? Are you seeing things? Maybe I should run some tests on you...
        • There's an ominous tone in Buli's voice... You should probably leave.
          • Return to the tavern.
          • When you return, Calbet is pacing in front of the tavern. He notices you and crosses his arms, frowning.
          • Calbet: That was totally uncool of you!
            • a) Why were you hiding? (?)
            • b) You're right, I'm sorry. +1 Affection
                • Calbet: At least you can recognize when you've messed up. But you ruined my vibe. We definitely can't go back and talk to B... Buli now.
                  • a) Does that mean you believe me now? (?)
                  • b) Are you afraid of Buli or something?
                      • Calbet mutters something about "coolness points" in response. Whatever his anxiety with Buli is, he definitely doesn't want to talk about it further.
                      • Calbet: Look, it's fine, I believe you or whatever. We just definitely don't need to talk to Buli again, okay? Definitely not.
                      • He stares intently at the pumpkin and cabbage you brought earlier.
                      • Calbet: So... these could be pets someday, huh? Isn't it weird, like... eating things that you could turn into pets?
                        • a) I try not to think about it too much... (?)
                        • b) Not really, the items themselves aren't magical.
                          • Calbet: Oh, I get it. They only transform because you're a... world-hopper or whatever, right? So that means that without your influence, they're just totally ordinary.
    • b) Ask Buli to explain pet animating. +1 Affection
      • Buli: You've forgotten how it works, have you? Well, it's simple. World-hoppers seem to have some kind of effect on objects from this world. So with prolonged contact, an ordinary item like a turnip will transform into a living thing. Did that jog your memory?
      • You notice Calbet's ears sticking out from behind the urn again, as though he's been listening closely. He definitely overheard the conversation.
        • a) Thank Buli for explaining.
          • Buli: Don't worry about it. You can repay me in turnips later.
          • Calbet carefully slinks away, unseen by Buli. Better head back to the tavern.
            • a) Return to the tavern.
              • When you return, Calbet is pacing in front of the tavern.
              • Calbet: Sorry that I was like... totally skeptical of the situation. I knew that I could trust you, but at the same time it all sounded way too far-fetched.
              • He stares intently at the pumpkin and cabbage you brought earlier.
              • Calbet: These items only transform because you're a... world-hopper or whatever. That's what Buli was saying, right? So that means without your influence, they're just totally ordinary.

He thinks about that for a moment, then nods to himself.

Calbet: I didn't really pay much attention to pets before, but... I've gotta see this weird animating thing for myself. Could you, like, turn one of the items you brought into a pet? I'll prepare a different dessert for us while you're doing your magic or whatever. Just remember, it's gotta be pretty rad to impress me! So pick the one that you think will be the coolest.

  • a) Pick the pumpkin.
    • Calbet: I trust your judgment. Why don't you meet me back here when it's ready or whatever?
    • Start incubating the Pumpkin.
    • Calbet: Animated any pets lately? Like maybe a pumpkin pet? / This is probably gonna be the best cake that's ever been baked. I hope the pet is just as cool... / Is it ready yet?
    • Calbet wants you to incubate a Pumpkin and animate it into a pet.
      • a) The pumpkin turned into a Pumpkin Pup! (Hatched 1/1 Times)
        • Calbet: That's...!
        • The Pumpkin Pup leaps into Calbet's arms, wiggling happily.
        • Calbet: Okay, this is... this is pretty cute. COOL, I mean! Obviously. Cool. I just finished our cake, anyway. Come on.
        • He carefully sets the Pup down and heads down the road a bit. The Pup follows without hesitation.
    • b) I'm still working on it...
  • c) Pick the cabbage.
    • Calbet: I trust your judgment. Why don't you meet me back here when it's ready or whatever?
    • Start incubating the Cabbage.
    • Calbet: Animated any pets lately? Like maybe a cabbage pet? / This is probably gonna be the best cake that's ever been baked. I hope the pet is just as cool... / Is it ready yet?
    • Calbet wants you to incubate a Cabbage and animate it into a pet.
      • a) The cabbage turned into a Cabbager! (Hatched 1/1 Times)
        • Calbet: That's...!
        • The Cabbager wobbles over to Calbet and sits on his feet, pawing at his shoes affectionately.
        • Calbet: Okay, this is... this is way too cute to have been born from a cabbage. COOL, I mean! Obviously. Cool. I just finished our cake, anyway. Come on.
        • As Calbet heads down the road, your Cabbager eagerly shuffles after him, trying to keep up.
    • b) I'm still working on it...

  • Follow Calbet.

Calbet takes you to his favorite spot, a grassy knoll overlooking Louise Hill. You remember it quite well. At the top you find a picnic blanket spread over the ground, along with some plates and silverware. A beautiful green cake sits in the middle, garnished with intricate details in its mint-colored frosting. Calbet sits on the blanket, and the Pumpkin Pup/Cabbager settles happily at his side/into his lap.

Calbet: So this is what world-hopper magic can do, huh? This definitely earns you some cool points. I may not be able to make pets from items, but I do make a pretty rad... uh, cabbage... cake. Here, try a slice.

[If Cabbager hatched]: Calbet looks down at the Cabbager and then back at the cake.

[If Cabbager hatched]: Calbet: Maybe you should cut yourself a slice while I distract our little cabbage friend here. You know, just in case that one was its friend or something...

  • a) Cut a slice for yourself. +1 Affection
    • You're not sure what cabbage cake will taste like, but Calbet poured his heart into this... You have to try it, at least. You take a generous bite of the slice on your plate. The texture is unlike any cake you've eaten before. The cake is soft, the leaves layered like noodles. It has an earthy taste, but is undeniably sweet. It's...
    • a) Delicious!
      • Calbet: See? I told you, vegetables can be okay in dessert.
    • b) Well made, but not really my thing...
      • Calbet seems a bit crestfallen. He quickly regains his composure, sitting up a bit straighter and clearing his throat.
      • Calbet: Well it is still made of vegetables, after all. Can't blame you for disliking vegetables.
  • b) Politely decline.
    • [Missing text]

Calbet: Anyway, thank you for showing me this pet. I'm sorry that I didn't believe you right away. You've been trustworthy through and through. You always do what I ask, and you do a good job. I've been thinking, actually... this whole pet thing. I guess the rest of us around town aren't so different from this little critter.

  • What do you mean?

Calbet: We were all just living our ordinary lives here, until you showed up. I've been hearing about all of the people you've been helping, and it's totally inspiring. Ever since I was picked on as a kid, I started thinking... 'I wanna do everything I can to make people feel welcome.' It's kind of my life's passion, you know?

  • a) You're a good social guide, Calbet!
  • b) That's a noble goal.

Calbet: I don't want to be a social guide forever, though. Actually, my dream is to start my own town. Be the mayor or something. I'd make sure everyone always had what they needed, and everyone was nice to each other. It'd be full of cool people! No one who was lame or mean would be allowed to stay there.

  • a) That sounds nice. +1 Affection
    • [Missing text]
  • b) It'd be cool of you to welcome the mean ones too though...
    • Calbet: Hm? You mean like, maybe they wouldn't be so mean if someone was just nice to them? I guess everyone has to come from somewhere. Maybe they can stay if they prove they want to reform by helping people out.
  • c) I believe in you! +1 Affection
    • Calbet: Heh... of course.

Calbet: I haven't told anyone about my dream in a long time. I was always afraid they'd say I was too irresponsible to do something like that. But you always have my back, huh? I'm glad I met you.

He gets to his feet, nodding at you.

Calbet: Thanks again, for everything. I guess you should-

He takes a step back and the pet follows him. Blinking, he tries to step away again, but it seems determined to stay with him.

Calbet: Um... what's it doing?

  • a) I guess it's yours now.
  • b) It must be good at detecting coolness.
  • c) I think it likes you.

Calbet: What? You mean it, like... wants to stay with me?

He seems surprised, but he crouches next to it, patting its head gingerly.

Calbet: What do you think?

Do you want to give Calbet the pet? It must be equipped as your active pet to permanently transfer ownership of it to Calbet.

  • 1a) Give Calbet your Pumpkin Pup. +1 Affection
    • Calbet: I... I promise I'll take good care of it, world-hopper. You can count on me! It's uncool to neglect someone who's relying on you, after all! But now I have to think of a name... Hm.
      • a) Pick something cool!
        • Calbet: Oh, uh... in that case, I'll call it Bu - B... Bu... Buddy. Yeah. Buddy. That's totally your name now, little friend.
      • b) I'm sure it'll be happy with any name you pick!
        • Calbet: Oh, uh... in that case, I'll call it Bu - B... Bu... Buddy. Yeah. Buddy. That's totally your name now, little friend.
        • Buddy spins in a circle, pleased to be getting attention from Calbet.
        • Calbet: I guess I need to go set some stuff up for Buddy at home. I'll see you around.
        • He's already down the hill by the time you realize he left all of the food behind...
  • 2a) Give Calbet your Cabbager. +1 Affection
    • Calbet: I... I promise I'll take good care of it, world-hopper. You can count on me! It's uncool to neglect someone who's relying on you, after all! But now I have to think of a name... Do you have any suggestions?
      • a) What about... Calbage?
        • Calbet: Wh...what, that's totally-
        • The Cabbager prances around Calbet's feet happily, seemingly thrilled with the name.
        • Calbet: ...It actually WANTS to be called that? ... Well, I guess if this little dude really likes the name that much... it can't be that terrible after all, right? Maybe this way, the name will have a positive meaning to it from now on. And like, if something this cool came from cabbages... maybe vegetables are actually, kinda... cooler than I gave them credit for. Wow, uh... I guess I have a lot to think about now, huh? I think I'll stay here a little while longer with Calbage.
        • He picks up the Cabbager and it rubs its face on his cheek. Calbet tries but fails to hold back a smile toward his new-found friend.
      • b) Name it after someone cool!
        • Calbet: Oh, uh... in that case, I'll call it Bu - B... Bu... Buddy. Yeah. Buddy. That's totally your name now, little friend.
        • Buddy spins in a circle, pleased to be getting attention from Calbet.
        • Calbet: I guess I need to go set some stuff up for Calbage/Buddy at home. I'll see you around.

  • b) Keep your pet.

    • a) No, I animate them from items with my world-hopper magic.
    • b) That's exactly what I do. Dislike.-1

Calbet gets curious when you mention cabbages could be animated into pets. You visit Buli's house to learn more. Calbet has hidden behind a vase, leaving you by yourself to ask Buli to confirm.

  • a) Attempt to coax Calbet out of hiding.
    • a) Force Calbet out of hiding.

Old Farmhand: Farmhand's Lost Treasure[]

Quest Information
Quest Giver Old Farmhand
Prerequisites Main Quest: Meeting the Old Farmhand
Description "You try to locate Farmhand's lost trinket."
Part 1 Transcript

Farmhand: Good day, young world-hopper. I imagine by now that you're adjusting to life here quite well, getting your bearings together and finding your place in the world. But since you are a newcomer to this world, there is still much that you do not know about how things came to be. If you have a moment to spare, I have a bit of a history lesson for you. Would you care to listen?

  • a) Yes, I'd love to know more.
  • b) Actually, I'm busy right now.

Farmhand: Good! Let's get right to it. As you've probably gathered by now, there are various types of towns and regions all around the world. Oftentimes, the culture of a certain area is determined by what sort of livelihoods its residents have. Louise Hill, for example, has a good climate and topography for agriculture. Other towns have access to resources that make them more suited to crafting and trading. As you travel to more towns and meet all sorts of people, I'm sure you'll come to understand what I mean firsthand. Which brings me to my main point! Have you ever heard of artificers, young world-hopper?

  • a) Yes, I have! -1 Affection
  • b) No, what is an artificer? +1 Affection
    • Farmhand: Ah, thank you for your honesty! It's good to be humble and ask questions when necessary.

Farmhand: Now allow me to explain: artificers are skilled inventors who create all manner of fantastic items. They differ from craftspeople in that their main focus is creating new, unique items for specific use rather than traditional items for everyday use. For example, a craftsperson might spend their whole life mastering and refining the creation of tried-and-true tools that have been widely used for centuries. Meanwhile, an artificer may instead spend their time inventing entirely new and novel tools to address unique, evolving needs. In your travels, you may even come across some artificers who specialize in imbuing items with magical properties - but of course, I wouldn't know anything about that. I simply know some people who create such things. Anyway, the artificing community has been thrown into a bit of a tizzy lately, thanks to the arrival of you world-hoppers.

  • Why?

Farmhand: As it turns out, you world-hoppers have a unique ability to create items yourself! It's a rather mysterious process, but one that I've had the pleasure of teaching and observing as various world-hoppers come through Louise Hill. How about it? Would you like to try some item alchemy for yourself?

  • a) Absolutely!
    • Farmhand: I like your spirit!
  • b) How does it work?

Farmhand: It's quite simple, really. All you have to do is place five items into your alchemy engine and activate it. The results of such magic can be quite varied, ranging from neat baubles to impressive and powerful new items! You'll have to experiment with different reagents to see what you can come up with. And don't forget to write down any particularly interesting recipes that you come across! Go ahead, try combining five items at your item alchemy engine now. I'm curious to see what you'll create!

  • Sure thing!

Farmhand: Ah, you're back young one. Have you alchemized something fantastical from five items yet?

  • a) Yes, I did! (Alchemized 1/1 Times) +2 Affection, +1 Comprehension
  • b) I'm still working on it...

Farmhand: Oho, what a fine creation! Looks like you're now a certified item alchemist. Well, I don't have a paper certificate for you, but that fancy item that you've produced seems like certification enough to me. How do you feel now that you're entering the ranks as an item artificer? A little wiser? Actually... There's some dispute about whether world-hoppers should be considered artificers, as the results of your alchemy can seem quite random at times. But I'm of the opinion that a little variety never hurt anyone! So now that you're a genuine artificer, I have a favor that I was hoping to ask of you...

  • Oh, what is it?

Farmhand: Well, the truth is... I was in possession of a rather rare artifact. At least, until recently. It was made by a master artificer - not me, of course - and there's not another like it in the world. I can't seem to find it no matter where I look. The last time I remember seeing it was before I passed through 3's Forest last week. I heard that you have been venturing out into the forest lately, and I was wondering if you could perhaps ask around about it during your next visit.

  • a) Sure, I can do that for you.
  • b) Why not go yourself?
    • Farmhand: Ah, you see, I'm quite busy with my work on the farm. Yes, so very much to do during this season. Can't afford to be waylaid by a quarrel with those witches - Did I say witches? I meant... birches! Yes, the trees. In the forest.
  • What can you tell me about the artifact?

Farmhand: Ah yes, I suppose you will need to know... a certain amount about it, in order to locate it. Although it belongs to me, I cannot claim to be an artifact expert - it was a gift, you understand - so as I can best remember... It is... silver. And round - able to be held in one's hand. And there's a system of needles and dials in the center.

  • a) Like a compass?
  • b) Like a clock?

Farmhand: That is... not too far off, but the interesting thing is that - I mean, yes. That's probably a good way to think of it. In fact, that's how I'd characterize it too, as I have no idea what is inside it. However, I can tell you that the artifact is drawn to magic. The person who made it - definitely not me - designed it that way. Now, is that enough detail for you? Please let me know if you're able to find it, young one. I'd be ever so grateful.

You will need to ask around 3's Forest to see if anyone has seen the Old Farmhand's artifact.

He said that it's attracted to magic, so who would make the most sense to ask...?

  • Begin looking for the artifact.
Unlocked: Does Glume Have the Artifact? Does Mycel Have the Artifact? Does Barclay Have the Artifact?
Part 2 Transcript
Does Glume have the artifact?

Glume: You again... What is it?

  • Ask about the Old Farmhand's artifact.

As you try your best to describe the missing artifact to Glume, she begins to grin smugly.

Glume: Oh, that thing? Yes, I know where it is.

  • a) Where can I find it?
  • b) The Farmhand is looking for it.

Glume: Such a pity for you, because you won't be able to find it... As it belongs to me now. And I'm not giving it back.

Glume seems pretty pleased to refuse you... is it possible that she's lying about having the artifact? You should probably go talk to Barclay and Mycel.

  • a) Venture to the Fairytale Meadow.
  • b) Find your way to the Glowshroom Enclave.

Does Barclay have the artifact?

Barclay: Oh hello there, world-hopper. Do you need something?

  • Ask about the Old Farmhand's artifact.

Barclay: An artifact? No, I don't know anything about that. Somebody else in the forest probably picked it up.

  • (If Glume has been spoken to) Glume says she has it, but...
    • Barclay: Glume said that? You know, I bet if Glume actually had it, she'd probably lie about it. So I don't think she has it at all... In fact, I think she'd definitely lie about it!
    • Barclay doesn't have much to say about where the artifact is, but he seems convinced that Glume is lying about having it.
    • You should probably go talk to Mycel next.
    • Find your way to the Glowshroom Enclave.

Does Mycel have the artifact?

As you approach, Mycel doesn't seem to notice that you're there.

Mycel: . . . . . . . . . Oh, you're here. But why?

  • Ask about the Old Farmhand's artifact.

You try your best to describe the missing artifact to Mycel, who looks unperturbed.

Mycel: I don't know what you're talking about. I have no such artifact. Is this a ruse to make me divulge my secrets? How foolish. If you have not the sight, there is nothing to see.

Mycel doesn't seem to recognize the description of the artifact, but her tone is strange... is it possible that she's lying?

Reviewing the facts

Your head is starting to get a bit turned around...

  • Take a moment to review the facts.

You find a secluded clearing in the forest to sort through your thoughts...

  1. Glume says that she has the artifact, but she refuses to give it back to you.
  2. Mycel says that she doesn't know anything about the artifact, and that she doesn't have it.
  3. Barclay says that he doesn't know anything about the artifact either, but that Glume is definitely lying about having it.

You get the feeling that only one of them is telling the truth... Of the three witches, who will you accuse?

  • a) Accuse Barclay.
  • b) Accuse Glume.
  • c) Accuse Mycel. (guilty)
    • You decide that Barclay sounds the most trustworthy - so if both he and Glume don't have the artifact, then Mycel must have it... You decide to return to the Glowshroom Enclave to confront Mycel about the artifact.
  • d) Review the facts again.

Accuse Mycel

Mycel: World-hopper, I told you that I know nothing of this artifact. Yet, here you are again...

Are you sure that you want to accuse Mycel?

  • a) I think you're lying about having the artifact!
  • b) Review the facts again.

Mycel stares at you blankly for a few moments before a smile slowly slips across her face.

Mycel: ...Perhaps you do have eyes to see after all. How did you know?

She reaches into her bag and pulls out a shining silver device, its dials seem to churn restlessly.

Mycel: I feel no need to return this small curiosity. It was discarded in the forest, and in the forest it shall stay.

It seems that Mycel did in fact have the artifact all along! ...yet how will you convince her to return it?

  • a) Persistence. Refuse to back down! (possible tenacity check)
    • You stand your ground and tell Mycel that you're not leaving until she hands over the artifact.
    • Mycel: ...Really, world-hopper? You'd stand there and wither up for this silly little trinket? How foolish...
    • Stare her down.
    • Mycel: ...such an expression. You truly intend to stay here until I give in. What frightening determination. If only it were turned toward a useful cause. Fine. Take it, just stop looking at me like that.
  • b) Honour. Appeal to her sense of morality! (possible high honour check or impossible)
  • c) Cunning. Deceive her! (possible charm check)
  • d) Intellect. Try to reason with her! (possible high stat gate or impossible)
  • e) Chance. Rely on your luck! (possible 50/50 chance)

Successful:

She gives you the Old Farmhand's missing artifact. You notice the needles on its front spinning alternately between you and Mycel.

Mycel: Now please, go. Had I known it would bring others into my enclave, I would have never picked it up.

You should return the artifact to the Old Farmhand.

  • Make your way back to Louise Hill.

Farmhand: Hello, young artificer! That look in your eyes... have you recovered my artifact?

  • a) I sure have!
    • The Old Farmhand's eyes widen with surprise as you show him the artifact that you recovered from Mycel.
    • Farmhand: Yes, this is it! How wonderful! To be honest, I'm quite surprised that you were able to find it. That must have taken some fine detective work! Please, do tell me how you were able to find it.
      • Explain everything. +2 Comprehension, +3 Affection with Old Farmhand
        • Farmhand: A witch named Mycel had it, you say? Well, it sounds like she had come across it quite by accident. But if not for your help, she may have held onto it forever. I owe you my deepest thanks! Please, allow me to repay this favor!
          • Oh, that's okay. It was really noth-
          • Rewards: Not a Wizard Hat, Apprentice Teapot, Plump Turnip
          • Farmhand: No no, I insist. Take these! Perhaps you can use them in your future item alchemy, eh?

As you exchange the Old Farmhand's artifact for your reward, you notice the dials on the device face start to spin toward the Farmhand.

  • a) Um...
  • b) Ask about the artifact's response.
    • Farmhand: Oh!
    • The Old Farmhand notices your expression, quickly gathering the artifact into his not-wizardly robes. You remember that when he first explained the artifact to you, he said that it was attracted to magic.
    • Farmhand: So, um. I can explain... ...Mm, perhaps the best explanation here is the truth. A long time ago, it just so happens that I may have... dabbled in magic for a short while. Now, don't go jumping to any conclusions! It was just a little enchanting here and there. Truly beginner things. This artifact must have been picking up on the last remnants of that. You know what they say, the smell of magic sticks around! Anyway, I'm sure the wizard who made this artifact would be happy to see it returned, safe and sound. It meant a great deal to them, once upon a time ...is what I imagine my friend would say, if they were here!
  • b) (text missing, placeholder:) No, explain everything. +1 Comprehension

Farmhand: Once again, thank you for your assistance. Do stop by again if you'd like to brush up on your social history at any point.

You arrive at the Old Farmhand's perch behind the tavern to see him looking a bit harried, without the usual sheen in his beard.

Old Farmhand: "Oh, hello there! How go your travels?"

  • a) Same as usual.
    • Old Farmhand: Ah, that is good to hear. Routine is good, though it is also good to shake things up.
  • b) You look tired.
    • Old Farmhand: Do I? Well, I suppose that is to be expected.

Old Farmhand: I've had some spectacular days of farm work in the last week. As you know, I am a farmhand. I help out on a number of farms around Louise Hill, as seasonality and needs dictate. But as you also know, I have not always been a farmhand! I've done all sorts of things in my life, dabbled in things perhaps including but not limited to some light magic... Anyway, my point is that despite my age, I am relatively new to farm work. Always keeping a beginner's mind, as they say. As such, I often come across new... skills, or techniques that would have never even occurred to me in my previous life. There's a great deal more mess than I'd anticipated. Without going into too much detail, let us just say that there are good and less good things about farm life. In all these educational experiences, I realized that there is one area in which farmers are quite similar to world-hoppers. A riddle for you - can you guess what it is?

  • a) We're always busy. (?)
  • b) We come in all shapes and sizes.
    • Old Farmhand: Why, I hadn't thought of that. Indeed, both farmers and world-hoppers come in all shapes and sizes. However, that is not the answer that I was looking for.
  • c) We have pets. +2 Comprehension
    • Old Farmhand: Got it in one! Bravo. It seems you're cleverer every day.

Old Farmhand: Farmers are wont to bond with their animals in a particular way, especially the animals that help out around the farm. There are few bonds stronger than that between a farmer and her sheepdog, I'd say. Something about the routine of working together, day in and day out, builds an unshakeable trust. When I was watching a farmer out in the fields with her sheepdog, I thought of you and your pets. After all, you were the one who gave your pets life - it is no surprise that you are close. Ah, but I must be careful not to make any assumptions. How would you describe your relationship with your pets?

  • a) They're like my children. +2 Honour
    • Old Farmhand: And how! Your magic brought them into this world, it makes sense that you would feel a special bond to them. You've developed a firm sense of duty since you've come here. I can hardly believe that you are the same as that bright-eyed newcomer I met before. Your pet is quite lucky to have such a steadfast and kind caretaker. Do well not to betray their trust.
  • b) They're my trusted companions. +2 Tenacity
    • Old Farmhand: Ahh, the bonds wrought by time spent together on the road, learning and growing as a team... I can see why you would trust each other deeply. To forge those bonds, you must have worked hard since you came here. I can hardly believe that you are the same as that bright-eyed newcomer I met before. I'm sure your pet will learn much from your determination as you continue spending time together. Do not give up on them either.
  • c) They're like decoration. (?)

Old Farmhand: Speaking of the bonds of trust between world-hopper and pet, / Now that you've mentioned a familial bond between world-hopper and pet, I am reminded of yet another type of person with a special creature companion. Let us make this the last of three queries. Will you hazard a guess at this creature-accompanied career?

  • a) Witches.
  • b) Wizards.
    • Old Farmhand: Spot-on! As if you read my mind. Of course, just because I was thinking of wizards does not mean that I am one. I simply have many wizard acquaintances.
  • c) Falconers.
    • Old Farmhand: Oh, that's an interesting one that I hadn't considered. It certainly fits the criteria, but a falconer was not the answer I was imagining. No, I was thinking, of course, about wizards! Of whom I have a few acquaintances, but I certainly wouldn't call myself one.

Old Farmhand: Specifically, I was referring to the wizard tradition of owning a familiar. Though there are certainly circumstances of a familiar owning its wizard! Some familiars are even made through magic - making them rather similar to your world-hopper pets, although the type of magic is different. Familiars are meant to protect their masters from harm, deliver important messages to fellow wizards, and simply keep their masters company. Some wizards even say that their familiar feels like an extension of their own body. Seeing a farmer with her sheepdog, you with your pet... I must admit, it makes me long for a familiar of my own. Any proper wizard should have one. Not that I am a wizard, of course. Ahem. So, my young friend, I was hoping you would assist me in this endeavor and use your world-hopper magic to provide me with a familiar.

  • a) Sure.
    • Old Farmhand: Oh, excellent!
  • b) Not right now.
    • Old Farmhand: I understand that you are quite busy. If you have a spare moment to try some pet alchemy, just say the word.
      • a) I have time now.
        • Old Farmhand: Oh, excellent!
      • b) Leave.

Old Farmhand: As for what type of familiar, I was hoping for a dragon. Perhaps a tad ostentatious or old-fashioned, but I am a bit of a traditionalist. Of course, it couldn't be a very large dragon - that would be a bit of a surprise for a quiet town like Louise Hill. If fairy tales are to be believed, sleepy hamlets and large dragons do not mix well. As for the how, I heard a bit about alchemy on the forums. It seems that alchemizing a dragon should be possible, bt I'm not sure exactly what combination of pets will yield a dragon. Perhaps consult your fellow world-hoppers on this. Or, if you are feeling adventurous, there is always the option of trying random combinations. I look forward to seeing this small dragon familiar! In the meantime, I'll wait here until you're finished.

Go alchemize an Emerald Dragonlet pet and put it in your active pet slot. Note that completing this task will require you to relinquish your alchemized pet.

  • I'll be back.

Old Farmhand: There you are, have you alchemized that new familiar for me yet?

  • a) I'll be back.
  • b) I've done it, here's your new dragon!

Old Farmhand: Oh? What's that you have there?

You show the Old Farmhand the Emerald Dragonlet that you alchemized for him. It flexes its wings and peers curiously at him, seeming hesitant to leave your side.

Old Farmhand: What a marvelous creature...! It's even lovelier than I had imagined.

Pleased by the praise, the Dragonlet shows off its glimmering scales and lets out a little squeak before scampering over to investigate the man in the strange robes.

Old Farmhand: Oh, hello there! A pleasure to make your acquaintance.

The Old Farmhand crouches down to greet it, extending one hand gently in its direction. The dragonlet stares blankly at his hand, then trots forward and begins sniffing at him, poking its nose into the sleeves of his robes. The Old Farmhand looks delighted.

  • a) It likes you.
    • Old Farmhand: Really? Perhaps they're just curious, but I hope you're right!
  • b) You must smell funny.
    • Old Farmhand: That's very possible. I wonder how we fleshy folk smell to dragons?

The dragonlet starts by poking at the Farmhand's palm experimentally with its claws. Satisfied, it climbs up onto his wrist and begins scaling his arm.

Old Farmhand: O-Oh! Quite adventurous, this one. You've got some climbing legs, haven't you? I suppose I should come up with a name, shouldn't I? That's customary when a wizard greets their familiar for the first time - not that I'm a wizard. Something with a nice ring to it... How about Jesper?

  • a) Sounds cool.
  • b) Sounds cute.
  • c) Sounds silly.

Old Farmhand: Hm, but I feel that we can do better. Perhaps... Elinor? Brianus? No, that's not quite right either...

While Farmhand is thinking about this, the Dragonlet makes its way up to his shoulder and starts poking around inside his beard.

Old Farmhand: Goodness! This one will roam wherever it pleases, it seems. That gives me an idea - Wander! Your name will be Wander, little one.

He reaches up and rubs the crown of the newly-dubbed Wander's head with his finger. Wander wiggles its tail and nips at Farmhand's finger in response.

Old Farmhand: "You know, this dragon reminds me a bit of myself when I was young."

  • a) How so?
  • b) Did you also bite people?
    • Old Farmhand: That I did not. I had slightly cleverer methods of getting my way.
  • c) Were you also small?
    • Old Farmhand: As young lads go, I suppopse I was on the small side, yes. But not nearly as small as Wander here.

Old Farmhand: Perhaps you'll allow me to tell a little story. I promise that I will keep it brief. But first, I'd like to ask you one more question: Do you think that life goes by too fast or too slow?

  • a) Too fast.
    • Old Farmhand: I unerstand that feeling very well. Does it feel like time is slipping by you, with no regard for all the things you want to see and do? I used to feel precisely the same way. Now, I see it somewhat differently. Life does not go by too quickly, it goes at exactly the pace that it should.
  • b) Too slow.
  • c) Just right. +2 Affection
    • Old Farmhand: It warms my heart to hear you say that. I completely agree.

Old Farmhand: Let me tell you the story of a young man who was so eager to learn that he spent all of his time obsessing over this one thing, perfecting it as meticulously as he could. He was not compelled by anyone or anything to do so, he simply loved learning and loved being able to do new things with what he learned. Eventually, he became so proficient at this one thing that he found himself in a position of considerable power and responsibility. People came from far and wide to hear his counsel on... Oh, various matters. Before he knew it, he was an old man, surrounded by chattering idlers who had very little to do with the thing that he loved. This wasn't what he had wanted at all. So he left. He left it all behind, in search of a simpler and quieter life. Little did he know, there was even more for him to learn, even in the quietest corner of the world that he could find. Imagine his delight that he, who had thought himself beyond the peak of his years, had found something new to love and learn. That was when he realized - when I realized that there is never any reason to rush. Even when you grow old, there is still time to explore and discover. That is my final advice to you. Do not hurry yourself, trying to achieve it all at once. Enjoy life as it happens, and rest assured that you can continue exploring.

  • a) Thank you for the story. +2 Affection
    • Old Farmhand: "You are most welcome."
  • b) ...Is that all? (?)

Old Farmhand: Allow me to offer my thanks for alchemizing a familiar for me. It isn't much, but I lead a humble life nowadays. Perhaps if you come back to visit, Wander and I will be able to sit down with you for some tea and a chat.

The dragonlet in question appears to be in the process of exploring the Old Farmhand's many pockets. Its tail flicks back and forth happily.

Old Farmhand: I think we'll spend the next while getting to know one another. I look forward to learning the ins and outs of proper dragon care. But more than that, it feels good to have a companion by my side. I feel like a proper wizard - I mean, a farmhand. Yes. A farmhand.

Regardless of your answer, he gives it a new name.

Old Farmhand: "You know, this dragon reminds me a bit of myself when I was young."

  • a) How so?
  • b) Did you also bite people?
  • c) Were you also small?

Old Farmhand: "Do you think that life goes by too fast or too slow?"

As you approach the training grounds, you notice Fantasia pacing the length of the training grounds. They seem agitated, muttering to themselves so quietly you can only pick up every other word.

Fantasia: But what if... maybe... No. That can't be it.

Their ears twitch with nervous energy, clearly too wrapped up in their own thoughts to hear your footsteps approaching behind them.

  • a) Leave them to their business.
  • b) Approach quietly.
  • c) Approach loudly.

By the time you reach them, Fantasia seems calm and composed. The only sign that anything's wrong is the occasional twitch of their tail.

Fantasia: Lovely today, isn't it? All that sky. I was just... relaxing.

  • a) Ask them if something's wrong.
  • b) Wait for them to tell you what's going on.
  • c) Ask them where Lilia is.
    • Fantasia: L-lilia? No idea! She could be anywhere! For all I know, she might not even be in Louise Hill. She might already be all the way in-

They clap a hand over their mouth, but it's too late for them to pretend nothing's wrong now.

Fantasia: Well, happened is... when I was cleaning up the training grounds earlier, I found this.

They show you an envelope with an elaborate coat of arms as its seal.

Fantasia: It's a letter of interest from Eisen's, the best knight's academy on the continent. Maybe in the world. Lilia's wanted to study there ever since she was a little girl, and getting a letter from Eisen's could only mean that they want her to go there too. Of course they'd admit her. How could they not? What I don't understand is... Lilia and I talk about everything, or at least I thought we did. She's told me all about her dream. I've told her all about my past. I'd understand if it was something scary or embarrassing, but a letter from Eisen's? That's a good thing! Why would she keep that from me?

  • a) Maybe she was kidnapped...
  • b) Maybe she hasn't had the chance to tell you?
  • c) Maybe it's a surprise party!
    • Fantasia tries to stifle a laugh, but you can hear them giggle anyway.

Fantasia: That's a really nice idea, but I don't think it's very realistic. There's only one way to get to the bottom of this. We'll do a reenactment.

They stand up a little straighter, the usual mischievous sparkle in their eyes turning serious and earnest.

Fantasia: So. Lilia, the strongest, prettiest person in the village, gets a letter from Eisen's and reads it. She's so excited that she drops the letter like so...

Fantasia drops the letter, letting it flutter to the ground.

Fantasia: Then she goes about her day and doesn't tell her best friend Fantasia, because... because...

They falter, the upright posture of their Lilia impression fading into a droop.

  • a) Because she hates Fantasia? -2 Affection
  • b) Because she's worried about the letter?
    • Fantasia: I don't know. This is her dream, remember?
  • c) Because she's not good at communication?
  • d) Because she's nervous about Fantasia's reaction?

Fantasia pauses for a moment and then sighs, clearly frustrated with the situation.

Fantasia: Oh, this is going nowhere! Thank you for humoring me, but I don't think either of us have any idea why she didn't tell me. It doesn't matter, anyway. I'm just going to be happy for her. This is a good thing. Eisen's is so prestigious, and Lilia will flourish there. I know it. I just... I just won't be there to make her laugh when she's had a bad day. Or coax her into taking a break instead of training until it's dark outside. Or make her tea the way she likes it.

Fantasia tries a smile, but it doesn't quite reach their eyes.

Fantasia: I'll have to make sure to send her off with something special. Actually... do you think you could help me make a care package? I know Eisen's provides everything for its students, but that's not the same as having something from home. Besides, I want to show Lilia that... that she doesn't have to hide something like this from me. That I'm fine with her leaving. Could you help me get an Honourable item, one of my Dagger Gloves, and one of Lilia's Training Lances?

  • Give me a moment to gather those items.

Fantasia notices you approaching, their eyes filled with anticipation.

Fantasia: Welcome back, world-hopper! I was just thinking, should I pack her some nice stationery and some stamps too? Wait no, I don't want to pressure her to write to me... What if Eisen's has a difficult schedule? Anyway, have you gotten an Honourable item, one of my Dagger Gloves, and one of Lilia's Training Lances yet? (Honourable items are: Honour Totem, Honourable Red Velvet Cake, Pink Snail Friends, Pink Snail Helmet, Red Shortbread Conecake).

  • a) Yes, I have everything for the care package for Lilia! +3 Affection
  • b) Give me a moment to gather those items.

Fantasia: Thank you, you're a lifesaver!

Fantasia stuffs everything you brought, along with what appears to be an entire year's supply of tea and chocolates, into a small pack. It barely manages to fit, and even then the lance is still sticking out at the side.

Fantasia: Hm... it's not quite perfect, but I hope it shows Lilia that I'm happy about her going to Eisen's. Even though I'm not...

Fantasia stares down at the pack, fiddling idly with their tail.

Fantasia: You know, before I came to Louise Hill, the place I lived and the person I was... neither were very nice. I've done a lot of things that I'm not proud of in order to survive. But Lilia changed everything, just by being who she was. She trusted me even though I never gave her a reason to, and she didn't give up on being my friend despite who I was.

You notice Fantasia grinning with admiration as they describe Lilia to you.

  • a) You can't help but smile along with them.
  • b) Look at Fantasia with an understanding expression.
  • c) Wait for them to get to the point.

Fantasia barely notices your reaction as they continue telling you about Lilia.

Fantasia: Even though I was a stranger to her, Lilia was the first person to be truly kind to me. She's really amazing, you know? She's going to do so much good in the world, just like she's always dreamed of! When she asked me to stay in Louise Hill I was thrilled, but I promised myself that I wouldn't hold her back.

Fantasia hefts up the pack and walks briskly down the road leading away from the training grounds, forcing you to hurry to keep up.

Fantasia: That's why I'm not going to say anything. Now, come on, let's go give Lilia her presents.

  • Follow Fantasia down the road.

You arrive in the town, where you find Lilia peering at a display in a shop window. Fantasia approaches Lilia and hastily hands her the care package. Lilia looks at the two of you in confusion.

Fantasia: These are for when you go to Eisen's!

Lilia freezes, almost dropping the package.

Lilia: . . .

Fantasia: Don't worry! I found the letter that you left at the training grounds, and I think it's wonderful that you're going! You'll do amazing things, Lilia, I just know it. Oh, I'm so excited for you!

  • a) Agree with Fantasia.
  • b) Shuffle around nervously beside them.

You notice that Lilia is trembling a little, blinking rapidly as she avoids Fantasia's gaze.

Lilia: Thank you, Fantasia. This is very kind. It's just... I - I have to go complete a task.

She hurries away, leaving Fantasia staring after her. Fantasia turns to you with their ears wilted.

Fantasia: I don't know what I did wrong... I was just trying to... ...Could you go talk to her? I'm not sure if Lilia wants to see me right now.

  • a) Of course!
  • b) I don't think I should get involved...

It takes you a while to catch up to Lilia. As you call out to her, she turns around, startled.

Lilia: Oh sorry, I didn't realize you wanted to speak to me. I'm just... I don't know what to do. If only I could talk to Fantasia about all of this!

  • a) Ask her what the problem is.
  • b) Ask her why she can't talk to Fantasia.

Lilia: The thing is...

She takes a while to gather her courage, and when she finally speaks, the words come out in a rush.

Lilia: I don't want to go to Eisen's! Not yet, anyway. I like the way my life is right now - helping people around the town, spending lazy afternoons with Fantasia... I don't feel ready to be a real knight just yet, and I'm definitely not ready for everything to change... I just don't know how to tell them that.

  • a) It's okay to not be ready yet.
  • b) They'll support you even if you don't want to go.
    • Lilia: You're right. Fantasia's always been supportive about everything I've told them, even the most shameful, embarrassing things...

Lilia: I feel terrible for running off on them over this, they didn't deserve to be treated like that! I need to go back and apologize.

  • Hurry back to Fantasia with Lilia.

As you make your way back, you notice Fantasia pacing anxiously in the distance. As if they could sense you coming, they abruptly stop and turn their gaze toward the two of you.

Fantasia: Lilia! Are you... is everything alright?

Lilia: Yes. Well, no... Not exactly. I need to tell you something. I'm not going to Eisen's. I don't think I'm strong enough to train there yet, and I'm not ready to leave Louise Hill. I didn't want to tell you because you were so excited for me, and I... I suppose I didn't want you to know how much of a coward I really am.

Fantasia: You're not a coward, don't say things like that! It's completely understandable if you don't feel prepared to study at an academy yet. I'd be more than happy if you decided you didn't want to leave Louise Hill at all! I mean, I was scared too, you know... a part of me didn't want you to leave.

Lilia: Then I suppose it's good that I'm not leaving for a while yet. And... and when I do... If you're not too busy in Louise Hill when I go... maybe you'd like to come with me?

Fantasia: But how is that-

Lilia: There's a whole town around Eisen's, I'm sure we could find you a place to stay! And I could come visit you all the time!

Fantasia: After your studies, of course.

Lilia: Of course!

Fantasia: ..Oh Lilia, I'd love that!

  • a) Tap your foot expectantly, you've got places to be.
  • b) Stay quiet and let them have their moment.
  • c) You find yourself smiling along with them.

Lilia: Are you sure? I know that you really like living here in Louise Hill. You don't have to move because of me!

Fantasia: You don't even have to ask.

Lilia: But I do! I hated not being able to talk to you. It was the worst feeling in the world.

Fantasia: I didn't like it either...

Noticing you for perhaps the first time, they give you a sheepish smile. Fantasia turns to you with a look of sincere appreciation.

Fantasia: World-hopper, I don't know how I would've gotten through today without your help! Certainly things would not have turned out this well had you not been here to listen and react as you did. You know... Lilia may have been the first person to ever be kind to me - but I guess she isn't the only one, huh? Thank you for going along with everything, even when I overreacted. Oh! And thank you for getting me the care package. Even though we might not be using it any time soon, I'd like to keep it for later if that's alright with you. I'll compensate you for your efforts!

Fantasia hands you a present.

Fantasia is sprawled out on the grass in the training grounds. They wave cheerfully as you approach.

Fantasia: Hey there, world-hopper. Come sit next to me and enjoy this beautiful day!

  • a) Sit with Fantasia.
  • b) Remain standing.

You accept their invitation and settle down next to them on the field. It's a beautiful day, the sun covered by only a few drifting clouds, and the grass is nice and soft beneath the two of you.

Fantasia: Hmm... maybe I should be training right now. Or running errands in the village. Or organizing my closet. The problem is, I don't really feel like doing any of those things. My whole life, all I ever wanted was to be safe, fed, and happy. Now that I'm not struggling to survive anymore, I don't really know what to do with myself. Everyone else has something they dedicate themselves to - Bearnard has his farm, Buli has her experiments, and Lilia...

They smile, a little wistfully, a certain light entering their eyes. Fantasia always looks a little different when they talk about Lilia.

Fantasia: Lilia works harder than anybody else I know. I want to be as dedicated to something as she is someday, so I can be proud to stand by her side. I think you and I both understand what it's like to be directionless. When you woke up, not knowing where you were from... how did you figure out what you wanted?

  • a) I didn't, I'm still just going with the flow.
    • Fantasia: It looks like we're the same.If you have the time, you should try out some new hobbies with me. It won't get you any closer to wherever you're from, but it might take your mind off things.
      • a) Sure!
      • b) Maybe later.
  • b) The things I love just stood out to me.
    • Fantasia: I know traveling must be one of those things. I'd like to hear about your other interests sometime, too. If you're free right now... I've been thinking about trying out a few new hobbies, and I'd like it if you could come with me. Maybe having someone along who's already figured out what they like will give me a little luck.
      • a) Sure!
      • b) Maybe later.
  • c) I belonged somewhere, once. I'm just trying to return.
    • Fantasia: It's hard, isn't it, being away from home? Even if you don't remember what it's like. If you have the time, you should try out some new hobbies with me. It won't get you any closer to wherever you're from, but it might take your mind off things.
      • a) Sure!
      • b) Maybe later.
  • d) When I realized there were people who needed help, nothing else mattered. (?)

Fantasia: This will be fun, I promise. I've planned a busy itinerary for us. I want to try out everything until I can find something to really get excited about! Since everyone in Louise Hill is so passionate about what they do, I thought I might learn from their examples. First up is Buli: she's the expert on... whatever she's doing with her experiments, so let's visit her and ask her to teach us what she knows.

  • Go to Buli's House.

Buli: Hm? Oh, hello animator. And Fantasia too, I see. I still have plenty of Essence Jugs in stock.

  • a) Maybe later. Right now, we need your help...
  • b) Nice try, but we're here to learn from you.
  • c) We need something else this time...

When you ask Buli to take you and Fantasia on as temporary apprentices, you think for a moment that you've finally managed to surprise her. She stares at the two of you for a split second of shocked silence, but recovers quickly enough that you're not sure it ever really happened.

Buli: I am flattered that you're so interested in my work! And I'd be... delighted to have your help as apprentices. Of course, it won't be easy. You'll need the Tenacity of someone who won't rest until they've found the truth, the Comprehension of someone who truly seeks to understand the world around them, and... a certain amount of resources. Specifically, turnips. Your first job as apprentices is to acquire some fresh specimens from Bearnard's farm, and quickly! Discovery waits for no one!

  • a) Sure.
  • b) If we do, will you finally tell us what you're using them for?
    • Buli: There's only one way to find out, apprentice.
      • Play 3 rounds of Turnip Thief.
  • c) I should have expected as much.
    • Buli: And I expect you to be an excellent apprentice!
      • Play 3 rounds of Turnip Thief.
        • Buli smiles mischievously when you return.
          • a) It's done. (Played Game 3/3 Times)
          • b) Leave Buli's shop.
  • d) I'd really rather not...
    • Buli: How will you ever learn to be my apprentice if you don't listen to me? If you'd really rather not, you can stop by my chance shop instead. One spin should be enough for now.
      • a) Fine, I'll spin your machine.
        • Buli: Have you finished contributing to my research yet?
        • Spin Buli's chance machine 1 time.
          • a) Yes. (Gacha'd 1/1 Times)
          • b) Not yet...
          • c) I changed my mind... I'll steal the turnips.
      • b) I'll go acquire some specimens from Bearnard...

Buli: That was the only task I had for you today, but you've been very good apprentices. Come back tomorrow.

  • a) Protest.
    • You and Fantasia try to argue, but Buli only laughs.
    • Buli: Of course I wasn't about to let you into my workshop! You're only apprentices, after all, and my experiments are very delicate. Maybe if you work for me long enough, I'll promote you to senior apprentice and let you have a glimpse. I'm not promising anything, though!
  • b) Leave Buli's shop.

Fantasia lets out a long sigh as the two of you leave.

Fantasia: I don't think I really expected anything else, but it was a worth a try.

Their mood quickly lightens, and they shoot you a mischievous grin as you walk back towards the training grounds.

Fantasia: Stealing those turnips, though. What a rush! Just like old times. Don't worry, I left some potatoes at Bearnard's house as payment. I hid them in his kitchen cabinet. That'll be a nice surprise at dinnertime! I guess I really have reformed now. Lilia would get upset if I hadn't paid... and besides, I enjoy paying for things now that I can. The next thing we're trying out is farming, just like Bearnard.

They dig around in their pocket and produce a single misshapen turnip.

Fantasia: Good thing I didn't give Buli all the turnips we took. Now, uh... what do we do with this?

  • a) Dig a hole.
    • Fantasia quickly digs a small hole with their paws.
    • Fantasia: Alright. Now what?
      • a) Water it.
      • b) Put the turnip inside.
        • Fantasia: That makes sense. We plant the turnip, we cover it up with dirt, and then we water it. That's not so hard.
  • b) Water it.
    • Fantasia: Okay, I poured water on it. And now we have... a wet turnip. I suppose it's clean now, but we were going to put it back in the ground anyway, so I'm not sure why we just did that. I guess I'll dig a hole and plant the wet turnip in there.
    • Fantasia's brow furrows in concentration as they swiftly dig a hole with their paws.
  • c) Look at them skeptically.
    • Fantasia: Don't look at me like that. I'm from a desert, you know! How am I supposed to know anything about growing things? You've spent time with Bearnard, you'll know more than I do.

Fantasia: And now we wait for it grow! How long does that take again?

  • a) Years.
  • b) Days.
  • c) Weeks.

Fantasia's face falls.

Fantasia: That's so long. And I have to water it every day? Farming is a lot harder than I realized. I should give Bearnard more potatoes. Maybe I'll leave a stack on his doorstep.

They sigh and stand up, mournful expression gone like it never was.

Fantasia: Our next task is the one I'm most excited about. We're going to help Lilia guard Bearnard's fields! I really hope this one works out. Guard duty isn't the most interesting thing ever, but just imagine us as partners and knights together! We could even get matching armour... I can't wait! Come on, let's go!

  • Follow Fantasia.

Lilia waves as soon as she spots the two of you, a big sweep of her arm you can see from all the way across the fields. (If Lilia's Guard Watch has been completed:) Paws dances excitedly at her feet, running forward to greet you first.

Lilia: I'm so happy both of you are joining me today. I've even prepared tea and some new stools.

The stools look a little out of place on Bearnard's farm, with their fancy, plush cushions and ornately carved legs.

Lilia: I took them from the parlor back home. I hope they're alright.

Lilia enthusiastically explains how she guards Bearnard's fields. It involves a lot of looking around in complete silence. While she's distracted by arranging the new stools in the perfect configuration, Fantasia turns to you discreetly and whispers.

Fantasia: What she said about utter focus and alertness... How do you do that, again?

  • a) Scan the horizon attentively.
  • b) Think about something you're interested in.

Fantasia: Hmm. I'll keep that in mind. Thanks!

They shuffle over to their post, equidistant from you and Lilia. Together, the three of you can easily keep an eye on all of the fields at once. It's a beautiful day outside. Even though Bearnard's fields have been ravaged by thieves, they still look lush and green in the afternoon sun. You smell nothing but turnips and sun-warmed earth, and hear nothing but birdsong. You look over at Fantasia to check on how they're doing... and catch them slowly nodding off, head drooping downwards despite their best efforts. (If Lilia's Guard Watch has been completed:) Paws nips lightly at their heels, and they jolt awake with a soft yelp.

Fantasia: Aaah! What - ?

They notice you and Lilia staring at them, and sink back downwards onto their stool.

Fantasia: Ah... sorry.

Lilia: It's alright. You just looked so peaceful I didn't want to disturb you.

Fantasia: I won't fall asleep again, I promise! I'll guard jogging in place if I have to.

You and Fantasia finish the rest of your shift without incident, but they sag, exhausted, after Lilia bids the two of you a cheerful goodbye. (If Lilia's Guard Watch has been completed:) Paws happily wags their tail beside her.

Fantasia: So much for matching uniforms. I'm just happy Lilia wasn't angry at me for falling asleep. There's only one more person to learn from now.

  • a) Calbet?
  • b) The old farmhand?

Fantasia: No, of course not. I meant you! Helping people out and playing with pets sounds like a fine time. Do you think I could spend some time with one of your pets? It has to be one I can really connect with, the kind of pet I understand perfectly... I can wait by the Training Fields if you need time to look for one.

Fantasia would like to see a pet hatched from Fantastical Bells as your active pet.

  • Go find a Bell Fox.

Fantasia is dozing contentedly near the fence / Fantasia is sitting on the fence, swinging their legs merrily. You'll need a Bell Fox as your active pet to continue. You can hatch one by incubating Fantastical Bells.

  • Show Fantasia your Bell Fox.

Fantasia: They're perfect! I can already tell that we're going to be good friends. Alright, let's see... Sit!

The bell fox doesn't seem to understand, even when Fantasia demonstrates.

Fantasia: I guess you're not in the mood for tricks today. How about a little exercise? Fetch!

They grab a stick from the ground and throw it towards the horizon. The bell fox watches it, but doesn't move.

Fantasia: Not a fan of running around, are you? That's okay, neither am I. Let's try one last thing. Catch!

They produce a treat from their coat pocket and throw it into the air. The bell fox watches the treat intently... and leaps at the perfect moment, catching the treat in its mouth.

Fantasia: See? I knew you could do it! You just needed the right incentive. I don't think I'm going to be an expert pet trainer any time soon, but at least we taught you one thing today.

Fantasia waves goodbye to the pet. It nods solemnly at them.

Fantasia: Phew, I'm beat. Let's see what Lilia's up to.

  • Go find Lilia.

The two of you meet up with Lilia as the sun slips slowly beneath the horizon. She's brought a small fruit tart from her family's kitchens.

Fantasia: I'm exhausted!

Lilia: You worked hard today. Did you find anything you liked doing?

  • a) I liked helping Buli. (?)
  • b) I liked trying to farm.
    • Lilia: Very Tenacious of you. I don't have the patience for farming, but I'm glad you liked it.
  • c) I liked guard duty.
    • Lilia: I'm glad! You're welcome to come help out anytime.
  • d) I liked playing with my pet.
    • Fantasia: It's good that you're a worldhopper, then. You'll always have pets around you.
  • e) I don't really have a preference.
    • Lilia: Didn't really connect with anything, huh? I get that.

Lilia: How about you, Fantasia?

Fantasia: Me? I don't think I really connected with anything today. If we're just going to judge by results, it was a bit of a disaster! You saw how my time as a guard went...

Lilia: If you really have your heart set on being a guard, I'm sure all you'd need is a little practice.

Fantasia doesn't even try to stifle their giggle, eyes dancing with quiet merriment.

Fantasia: Thanks, but you really don't need to reassure me. I liked the idea of wearing a guard uniform more than I actually liked being a guard. Besides, even though I didn't really discover any hidden talents or new passions, I had fun today, and I learned more about the other villagers. I'll just have to resign myself to being ordinary and well-fed. But that's okay. I'm happy just to be among friends.

Lilia: Fantasia, you tried so many things today. Even when you knew you wouldn't be good at them. Even when you weren't sure whether or not they'd work out. I don't think that's ordinary, I think that's incredible.

Fantasia: Lilia...

  • a) Clear your throat awkwardly. (?)
  • b) Give them some privacy.
    • You try to give them some privacy, but Fantasia catches up with you before you can really slip away.
    • Fantasia: Wait! I still haven't thanked you for hanging out with me today.
  • c) Watch them affectionately.
    • Fantasia suddenly remembers that you're still there. They flush a deep shade of red.
    • Fantasia: Oh! Um - give us a moment, Lilia?
    • They step aside with you, patting you on the back.
    • Fantasia: I almost forgot to thank you for hanging out with me today. Sorry about that! When I'm with Lilia, I tend to... heh. Anyway.

Fantasia: Having someone along with me made it an adventure, even when things didn't work out. Remember when I told you about how Lilia's dedication inspired me? Well, you inspire me too. You've never let not having your memories keep you from trying different things and helping people out, and I really admire that. Here. This is to thank you... for being such a good friend.

  • a) Sit with Fantasia.

You walk over to Buli's house. She offers you Essence Jugs.

  • a) Maybe later. Right now, we need your help...
  • b) Nice try, but we're here to learn from you.

    • b) Put the turnip inside.
  • b) Water it.
  • c) Look at them skeptically.

Fantasia: "And now we wait for it grow! How long does that take again?"

  • a) Years.
  • b) Days.
  • c) Weeks.

Fantasia admits they doesn't have the patience. You follow Fantasia to Lilia's training field and join her on guard duty.

Fantasia: "What she said about utter focus and alertness... How do you do that, again?"

  • a) Scan the horizon attentively.
  • b) Think about something you're interested in.

Fantasia: "There's only one more person to learn from now."

As you pass the training grounds, you notice Lilia and Fantasia calling out to passersby.

Fantasia: Only you can protect the town!

Fantasia sees you and enthusiastically waves you over.

Fantasia: You're the first person to actually stop.

Lilia: Oh! Let me tell you all about it. Where did I put my notes?

Fantasia: It's okay, Lilia. You've spent so much time practicing your speech that you have to have it memorized by now.

Lilia: Ahem! Recently, our community has suffered a significant and terrible crime - the theft of Bearnard's turnips! I'm sure you've all heard his concerns, as turnips are his livelihood. That is why I formed the Knights of the Neighborhood, to protect Bearnard's turnips and the happiness of our village! If you join, you'll be our third member. What do you say?

  • a) Sure, I'll join.
  • b) No thanks.

Lilia smiles enthusiastically.

Lilia: Welcome to the Knights of the Neighborhood! Thank you for agreeing to join our forces, you must care very much about the safety of Louise Hill. Follow me, I'll show you where we've set up our lookout station!

You follow Lilia over to Bearnard's farm, where she's set up a guard post atop a nearby hill. From this vantage point you can see all of Bearnard's fields clearly, both the ones full of turnips and the ones that have been picked clean. As long as you look in opposite directions, the two of you can watch over the entire farm at once.

Lilia: I have to say, I'm a little happy to be out here with a knightly purpose! Even if I'd rather that Bearnard's turnips weren't in danger... I grew up hearing stories about my ancestors who became heroic knights and guardians, dedicating their lives to serving the people. Like my great-great-great-aunt, who they say saved a dragon from an angry village! I know that guarding Bearnard's turnips isn't exactly the most heroic of duties, but it feels like I'm finally following in my family's footsteps! . . . I know, it does sound a little silly...

  • a) It's not silly!
  • b) I mean, it is a little silly...
  • c) If it matters to you, it's important.
    • Lilia smiles at your reassuring response.
    • Lilia: You know, Fantasia always says the same thing. Though I believe that a knight's duty must always matter most! With diligence, I hope to be awarded a medal for saving a town one day, like Sir Astor. Now, there was a knight! Maybe Fantasia will give me their favor...

A loud rumble comes from Lilia's stomach, startling the both of you and making her blush.

Lilia: Oh! I've been so busy getting the Knights set up that I haven't had a chance to eat yet. Hm, I think I can handle the turnips by myself. So here's your first quest as an official Knight of the Neighborhood! Please bring back some food. We can eat it together as we stand guard.

  • Obtain a food item for Lilia.

Lilia: Oh, you're back. Did you finish your first knightly quest?

Give Lilia 1 food item.

  • a) I'm still working on it...
  • b) Yes, I've brought food!

Lilia: Thank you for the food, you did a good job.

She takes a single bite of her piece of food, but doesn't touch the rest...

  • a) Ask if something is wrong.
  • b) Wait for her to talk to you.

Lilia: I... I don't know how to say this... Someone stole Bearnard's turnips again. On my watch. I tried not to daydream too much, but it only took one moment of distraction for the turnips to go missing anyway. I was so excited to live up to the family legacy that I lost track of why I started the Knights in the first place. I failed. I...

For a moment Lilia looks like she's about to cry, but she takes a deep breath and straightens up instead.

Lilia: I can't let it end like this. I have to think. The only people who have been around for every one of the turnip thefts are the other towns folk, but who would do such a thing?

  • a) Accuse Calbet.
    • Lilia: Calbet? It can't be... Calbet doesn't eat vegetables. Why would he steal turnips? It's not a very healthy choice, but it does rule him out as a suspect.
  • b) Accuse Old Farmhand.
    • Lilia: Hm, I don't think so... Old Farmhand has lived here for decades. Why start stealing turnips now?
  • c) Accuse Fantasia.
    • Lilia: Fantasia would never! Not without a very good reason, like a starving family... or to save the world or suchlike. And no matter what, they'd talk to me about it first!
  • d) Accuse Bearnard.
    • Lilia: ...An inside job? No, it can't be... but what if... no. There's no way Bearnard would play such a prank at the expense of his precious turnips.
  • e) Accuse Buli.
    • You tell Lilia about having helped Buli.

Lilia: So she asked you to steal them? Bearnard's always had his suspicions, but I never thought... Well, I have heard rumors that she uses turnips in her experiments. And I never see her visiting Bearnard's shop. I don't think I'm ready to confront anyone right now, but... Would you go talk to Buli about it? See if she'll return the turnips she took?

  • Go talk to Buli.

As you enter Buli's shop, you notice that the door to her back room is ajar. You catch a glimpse of what looks like Buli in some sort of mysterious laboratory...

  • Confront Buli.

You march over to the door and swing it open before Buli notices that you're there. You catch her mid-experiment, as she's slicing turnips into different sections and dropping them into various bubbling bowls.

Buli: You again?! I am starting to seriously regret my previous decision to not wipe your memories for the last time you so rudely barged into my lab...

  • a) Beg her to give back Bearnard's turnips.
  • b) You need to give back Bearnard's turnips, or else!
  • c) We need to talk about all of the turnips you've stolen.
    • Buli only laughs, grinning at you as if you're both in on a joke.

Buli: It's a little late for you to act righteous, isn't it? You've taken your fair share of turnips in your time and no harm done!

  • a) Try to argue with her.
    • Buli: Well, alright, I suppose I did encourage you a little. But that's all in the past now! And besides, I may have put the idea in your head, but you took those turnips yourself. Had fun doing it too, didn't you?
  • b) Stay silent.

Buli: You can't give them back now, can you? They're alive now. What would Bearnard do with living turnips? ...Probably raise them as his own children, now that I think about it! Anyway, you see why I can't help you. Come back when you have more turnips for me, won't you?

You should probably go see Lilia now...

  • Return to Lilia.

When you return, you find Lilia still looking upset. But by the looks of it, she's been working out her frustrations by demolishing all the training dummies in the field.

  • a) Tell Lilia why the turnips can't be returned.
  • b) Tell Lilia about Buli and confess your own involvement. +1 Affection, +1 Honour
    • Lilia: You too? I don't understand... You know how much Bearnard cares about those turnips. I... I suppose everybody makes mistakes. Thank you for telling me the truth. It probably wasn't easy, and I'm proud of you for having the courage.

Lilia: So there's no way to return the turnips to Bearnard... I can't fix what happened, but there has to be some way to make it up to him... Bearnard and I can't guard his fields alone, but we might be able to do it with some help. Do you think you could animate a guard for us? A nice Plump Turnip from Bearnard's fields would do nicely. I think he'd like having a living turnip companion around.

  • Bring Lilia a Turnipling as your active pet.

Lilia: Welcome back, world-hopper. Have you animated a Plump Turnip into Turnipling for us yet?

Equip a Turnipling as your active pet in order to give it to Lilia. The pet will be removed from your account and Lilia will become its new owner.

  • a) Yes, I've got one right here for you!
  • b) I'm still working on it...

Lilia: Thank you so much! I realize hatching a pet magically probably takes a lot out of you. I think I'll name them... Paws.

She crouches down and smiles at the pet, holding out her hand for them to sniff.

Lilia: Hello, Paws! My name is Lilia. You're going to be helping me and my friend Bearnard keep these fields safe. I'm still learning how to be a guardian myself, but I think I can teach you a few things! Hm, let's see... I've always been guided by the lessons that I've learned from my family's stories and the many books that I've read. For example, you must devote your whole self to the welfare of the people, and always work to the best of your ability. But most importantly... Most importantly... Well, I always thought the most important lesson was 'a knight does not fail in her duties'. But I don't think that's always possible. I tried as hard as I could, and I still made a mistake... I think it's time for a new guideline.

Lilia looks at you eagerly despite her serious expression. Paws leans their head against her hand.

Lilia: As much as I admire the heroes that I've read about... You're always helping everybody in the village, world-hopper. I was hoping that you might have some advice for me?

  • a) Keep trying even when it seems that all is lost. +1 Affection, +1 Honour
  • b) Always stay true to your principles. +1 Charm
  • c) Think about the results of your choices before you act. +1 Comprehension
    • Lilia: Yes, that's very wise advice. You always have to seriously consider the consequences of your actions. That way you can make sure nobody gets hurt.
  • d) Never underestimate the strength of friendship. +3 Affection, +1 Tenacity

Lilia: Do you understand, Paws?

Paws licks her face in reply. Lilia laughs, the first time you've seen her even smile since the turnips went missing.

Lilia: I'm not sure if that's a yes, but I'll accept that answer!

She turns to you, suddenly serious again, but looking much happier than she did before.

Lilia: With Paws by my side, I feel much better about my ability to keep Bearnard's fields safe. Even though I'm not ready quite yet to be the kind of knight who can save a whole town, at least I can be the kind of knight who learns from her mistakes! I really do admire how helpful you are to everyone, you know. Thank you for everything you've done today. Here's something to remember your time as a member of the Knights of the Neighborhood!

Lilia: A Present for Fantasia[]

Description "Lilia deliberates over what she can do for Fantasia."
Full Transcript
As you approach the training fields, you notice Lilia studying some training dummies with a critical eye. She seems to be deep in thought.

Lilia: Oh, hello there friend! I'm so glad that you're here. I have a difficult choice ahead of me and could definitely use your help, if you don't mind. You see, I was looking at the grounds here and I realized that it's full of my equipment. Fantasia has barely any of their own. I wanted to make some for them, but I don't know what would be best. Targets for ranged weaponry, perhaps? Or maybe a training dummy for short-range combat? I can't ask them myself. I want it to be a surprise, and I'm not very good at being subtle... Do you have time to ask Fantasia which they'd like better?

  • a) Agree to help Lilia.
  • b) Tell her you don't have time right now. (?)

Lilia: Wonderful! I knew that I could count on you, world-hopper. I'll go get some materials for the project while you talk to Fantasia.

  • a) Look around for Fantasia.

As you make your way to the back of the training grounds, you find Fantasia by a pleasant, grassy hill. They seem to be stretching, but you notice them wince in pain as you approach.

Fantasia: Oh, hello world-hopper. Have you come to lay in the grass and watch the clouds go by? It's quite relaxing, but if you accidentally fall asleep, it sure is a recipe for a backache... The ground here is surprisingly hard, even though all of the grass makes it look nice and soft. I'm trying to stretch though, so Lilia won't worry about me too much - I'm sure it's nothing.

  • a) Actually, I have some questions for you.

Fantasia: Oh? What's on your mind, world-hopper?

What would you like to ask Fantasia about? Remember, Lilia wants your project to be a surprise - play it cool.

  • a) I need some advice on what to do in a fight.
    • Fantasia: Well, to be perfectly honest... my advice is to avoid fighting, and run if you have to. I was in my share of fights when I was younger, and I didn't like them. Fighting seems exciting in stories, but it's dangerous and scary in real life. The smartest thing to do is run away. You should only stand and fight if you have no other options.
    • They sounds surprisingly serious, as if they're not just answering your question, but giving you a warning as well.
    • Fantasia: Though... if I had to, if it was for somebody I cared about, I might use my daggers. Maybe throw them from afar, and try to get the enemy to chase me. Anyway - you're not in some kind of trouble now, are you world-hopper?
      • (If this is the first question asked) Do you have anything else to ask Fantasia? ⤴
      • (If this is the second question asked) Fantasia seems a bit suspicious... Do you have anything else to ask them?
  • b) Could you teach me about your training?
    • Fantasia: Oh, you're interested in training? Well my favorite area is long range combat, definitely! I could show you some training techniques, if you'd like to stop by and practice some dagger throwing. I love the satisfaction of lining up a perfect throw, and I've been practicing my trick shots lately. I hit an apple balanced on the tip of Lilia's lance the other day, you know!
      • (If this is the first question asked) Do you have anything else to ask Fantasia?
      • (If this is the second question asked) Fantasia seems a bit suspicious... Do you have anything else to ask them?
  • c) What's your favorite thing to do at the training grounds? (?)
  • d) (After at least one question has been asked) Thank them for the offer and return to Lilia.

You can't believe what a mess the training grounds are when you return. Broken pieces of wood lie shattered on the ground, along with various tools and equipment. Streaks of spilled paint have dyed the grass red and blue. When Lilia sees you, she drops the paintbrush she's using to turn one of the training dummies purple and rushes over.

Lilia: So? What did Fantasia say?

Relaxing with Lilia

Long-Range Combat
  • a) They definitely prefer ranged combat! +5 Affection
    • Lilia: Oh, I thought so! They're always trying to show off with their dagger throwing tricks. It took them a whole week to perfect the one where they hit a dagger out of the air with another dagger. Great work world-hopper, I'm almost surprised that you did so well without tipping off Fantasia about our plans - they're very keen, not much gets by them! Looks like we should get started on building some targets. And let's build them quickly so I can go brew some tea for all of us later!
      • a) Okay, I'm ready!
  • b) Ask Lilia why the training grounds are so messy. (?)

Lilia: Okay, so I know what we want to make now, but... I don't know how to make them. I don't know how to make anything, actually. My impression is that we use... wood?

  • a) I know exactly how to make targets!
    • Lilia: Oh good, that's a relief. I'm from... I suppose you could call us a noble family, though we're not really that important anymore. I always had tutors growing up, so I spent my time studying philosophy and deportment instead of learning practical things. It's a little embarrassing how unequipped I am for ordinary tasks now. I've been trying to learn how to build things and keep a household, but I'm not very good at it yet. I'm glad one of us knows what to do, at least! What do you think we should make our target out of?
      • a) Uh... Turnips?
      • b) Paper, maybe?
        • Lilia tries to hide her skepticism with a polite smile.
        • Lilia: I... Not that I don't trust your expertise, but perhaps we should get a second opinion first?
      • c) Admit that you don't know the answer.
  • b) You know, I don't really know either... +1 Affection, +1 Honour

Lilia: Let's head into town and ask around, I'm sure someone will be able to help us.

You agree and travel with Lilia into town - who will you talk to first?

  • a) Talk to Bearnard.
    • You decide to head over to Bearnard's farm, when you catch Bearnard in the middle of slipping a treat to Paws the Turnipling.
    • Bearnard: You're a good little turnip, aren't you?
    • When he catches sight of you and Lilia, he straightens up almost instantly, dropping the treat and pretending he wasn't just petting Paws.
    • Bearnard: Ahem. I mean. Get back to work, you.
    • Paws ignores him, preferring to purr and rub their face against his leg. He seems almost relieved when you ask him your question.
    • Bearnard: Hm. Don't know much about daggers, but I do know about building. You'll want to get some nice, solid wood for a structure like this. I'd take a log from a large tree and cut off a small slice at the very end to make the target out of. Then sand off the edges so you don't get splinters, and hang it up on a wooden frame. I have some blocks out back you can use if you like. Not for free, mind! You have to buy something from my shop first.
    • Spin Bearnard's chance machine 3 times to pay for the materials needed to help Lilia.
      • a) Sigh and agree to pay for the materials.
      • b) Sounds fair enough!
        • Bearnard: Welcome back, world-hopper. You're still interested in buying some blocks of wood from me, I take it?
          • a) Yup, I've paid for the wood materials! (Gacha'd 3/3 Times)
            • Bearnard: That'll do. The logs are yours.
          • b) I'm still working on it...
  • b) Talk to Buli.
    • You and Lilia walk over to Buli's shop, where you find her sitting behind her shop counter, counting potatoes. Lilia seems a bit wary, but you decide to ask Buli if she knows anything about constructing sturdy targets.
    • Buli: Targets huh? Well of course, there's a trick to it though... I can tell you, but you'll have to get something for me in exchange. How about twenty turnips from Bearnard's farm?
      • a) Agree to Buli's deal.
        • Lilia grabs your arm and quickly pulls you away before you can agree.
        • Lilia: I'm sorry, but I had to stop you. We can't steal from Bearnard, that would be wrong!
        • Looks like you'll have to get help from someone else. Who will you ask next?
          • a) Talk to Bearnard.
          • b) Talk to Calbet.
          • c) Talk to the Farmhand.
      • b) Reject Buli's deal. (?)
  • c) Talk to Calbet.
    • You find Calbet fletching arrows near the tavern and decide to ask him if he knows anything about constructing sturdy targets. He also uses a ranged weapon, after all.
    • Calbet: Do I know how to make those? No. What do I look like, sixty years old? Ask the Old Farmhand. I bet he'd know about boring, ancient, stuff like that. Old people like whittling, don't they? Piece of advice: archery is ten times cooler and better than knife-throwing. You should get some archery targets instead.
    • That wasn't very helpful. Who will you ask next?
      • a) Talk to Bearnard.
      • b) Talk to Buli.
      • c) Talk to the Farmhand.
  • d) Talk to the Farmhand.
    • You walk into the tavern to find the Old Farmhand sitting down, looking at something small and shimmery in the palm of his hand. As soon as you approach, he slips it into one of his robe pockets before you can see what it is. You decide to ignore that and ask him if he knows anything about constructing sturdy targets.
    • Farmhand: Why, that's easy. All you need is some eye of newt and... and... And nothing. I have no idea how you'd make a target for dagger throwing. Why would you think I knew how to make anything? It's not like I'm a wizard.
    • That wasn't very helpful. Who will you ask next?
      • a) Talk to Bearnard.
      • b) Talk to Buli.
      • c) Talk to Calbet.

You thank Bearnard for the materials and haul them back to the training grounds with Lilia. It takes a while to learn how to use the saw, but Lilia keeps trying until she's cutting perfectly even slices. With Bearnard's advice, a lot of practice, and a few narrowly-avoided accidents, you manage to make quite a few targets of different sizes.

Lilia: The targets are perfect now, but I don't know... It still doesn't feel like enough.

Lilia looks downwards, playing with the ends of her hair.

Lilia: The truth is... crafting isn't the only thing I didn't learn growing up. I never learned how to make friends either, so I never really had any... While the other children in town played with each other, I was always studying and training alone. And then I grew up and met Fantasia. They were my first friend, and when I convinced them to move to Louise Hill, I finally didn't have to be alone anymore.

She smiles softly, a wistful look on her face as she reminisces about the past.

Lilia: I'm comfortable around people now, all because of how patient Fantasia was with me after we met. That's why making the training grounds perfect is so important to me. I want to show them how much I appreciate them always being there for me, and i want Louise Hill to feel like their home.

  • a) You're doing a great job Lilia, don't sell yourself short. +3 Affection
    • Lilia looks up at you and smiles, appreciative of the comforting words.
    • Lilia: Thanks world-hopper, you're a good friend. Sometimes I'm not sure what I'd do without you and Fantasia around...
  • b) Don't worry, Fantasia will love the surprise! (?)
  • c) Smile reassuringly. (?)

You and Lilia continue on, setting up the targets and preparing them for their final reveal to Fantasia...

...When the time comes, Lilia leads Fantasia up the path to the training grounds. Fantasia's eyes are tightly closed, with Lilia guiding them gently with a hand on their back.

Lilia: And... here. You can open your eyes now. Surprise!

Fantasia's jaw drops as they take in the brightly-painted targets that you and Lilia set up all around the training grounds. Lilia is beaming with excitement.

Fantasia: Oh... wow. It's so beautiful! And - you did this for me? I - Lilia...

Lilia: I realized that you didn't have any equipment of your own at the training grounds, and... I wanted this to feel more like home - your home!

Fantasia: Louise Hill has been my home for a long time, Lilia. Of course this is home. You're here, aren't you?

Lilia and Fantasia gaze at each other for a long moment, both of them unsure of what to say. Fantasia breaks the silence first, awkwardly tugging at their tail.

Fantasia: A-anyway! It's so cozy here now, thanks to all of your efforts. I don't want to leave! Do you think the three of us could camp out here tonight?

So the three of you set up everything for an evening at the training grounds. Fantasia tests out their new targets, eventually coming up with a trick where they throw a knife backwards over their shoulder. Lilia gathers enough wood to make a campfire, and runs back home to grab her camping gear and some food for the three of you.

Lilia: And now for my favorite part of camping - telling stories by the fire!

Lilia tells a historical tale whe read during her studies, about an army held back by a lone knight, clad in golden armor. Fantasia tells a scary story about a soul-snatching monster, who only moves through shadows to avoid a sun god's gaze. Now it's your turn. You don't remember any stories from your homeland, but you've been in this strange new place long enough to hear a few...

  • a) Tell a story about a soldier who fought with spirit and not violence. (?) +1 Honour
  • b) Tell a story about a shield strong enough to hold back hurricanes. +1 Tenacity
    • Fantasia: I'd have liked to have seen that! I've never been to the ocean before.
    • Lilia: Imagine the types of heroic deeds that you could do with a shield like that!
  • c) Tell a story about a boy who told a story about a girl who told a story about... (?) +1 Charm
  • d) Tell a story about yourself, and all the things you've experienced here. (?) +1 Comprehension

As the three of you sit and chat away into the night, you're slowly mesmerized by the merry crackle of the campfire in front of you. You don't notice yourself dozing off until you slowly blink back awake from the evening chill, the fire long since died down to embers. When you go to tell Lilia and Fantasia that you'll go set up the tent, you find both of them already curled up together, fast asleep.
