Summer Festivities banner featuring Lilia and Fantasia.

Summer Festivities is a seasonal event related to the deity Ingi that takes place during the month of August. Its first occurrence took place from August 21st to September 5th, 2020, and since then has run as a repeatable questline during the entirety of the month of August each year.

World-hopper! Hello there, staying out of the summer heat, I hope? Every year when the sun shines the brightest, transient embers begin to flicker through the air - they almost glitter in the heat of the sun's rays. With such hot weather, we thought it'd be a fun way to reign in the end of the season with a refreshing summer celebration! Unfortunately, it's been so warm lately that supplies are difficult to come by and the embers in the air have made for tricky travels. We could really use the help with preparing, if you would be interested in lending a hand. We’ve listed out some things you can do to help below!

Lilia to world-hopper, regarding the full event, Summer Festivities

Heads-up!
Summer Festivities had a special mechanic in its first iteration that may not appear in subsequent occurrences of the event.

Lilia is setting out a stack of cups and plates on a picnic table when you arrive in Louise Hill. As you survey the landscape before waving hello, you notice small pin pricks of light hanging in the air around town. You rub your eyes in confusion. Lilia notices your approach and waves.

Short Event Introduction (Post-2020)
Lilia: I can see what you're thinking, what are those flickering lights? Heh. Well, every year when the sun shines the brightest, transient embers begin to flicker through the air - they almost glitter in the heat of the sun's rays. With such hot weather, we thought it'd be a fun way to reign in the end of the season with a refreshing summer celebration! The only problem was, it's been so warm lately that supplies were difficult to come by and the embers in the air have made for tricky travels. Fortunately, we managed to enlist help from all around town. Various world-hoppers and town folk alike! We have more than enough supplies to entertain the whole town now, and the embers appear to be burning brighter than ever thanks to all this mysterious world-hopper magic. I’m putting the finishing touches on the decor, and we’re setting out all of the refreshments at a dedicated stall. I hope you’re ready for a lovely night, full of music and fun! Feel free to look around while I finish setting up.

You take a look around the grounds, a crowd of recently hatched pets are gathered around the snack stall, which is piled high with neatly organized mountains of various food items, with an emphasis on conecakes.

Full Event Introduction (2020)
Lilia: Welcome back! Thanks to all of your help, I think we really managed to prepare well, what do you think?

You take a look around and sure enough, the fruits of your labour are apparent. A crowd of your recently hatched pets are gathered around the snack stall, which is piled high with neatly organized mountains of various food items, with an emphasis on conecakes.

Transcript (Continued)
Festoons of ribbons and decoratively shaped parchment from your recipe scrolls are dangling across lengths of string over your head, all in various flame-like shapes. Embers hang in the air all around you, slowly rising and falling. Some of Lilia's training dummies have been repurposed and dressed up in fiery silks. There is also an empty stage and an area with some games set up, complete with a darts and archery station, ember catching, and a series of shallow wooden pools for kids to splash in.

  • a) Everything looks lovely!
    • Lilia: Thank you! I'm so glad you approve of what I've done with your donations. We couldn't have made it so nice without your help.
  • b) Wow, you went all out.
    • Lilia blushes, looking a little embarrassed.
    • Lilia: It was the least I could do, really. I owe the people in this town a lot for being so kind to Fantasia and I, and I hope to make this festival a success!
  • c) Grab a conecake to snack on.
    • Lilia: Ah, yes. Please help yourself to the refreshments!
    • The conecake is airy and oddly filling, with a crunchy waffle cone at the base. You finish it within a few bites.

Lilia: We spread the word around town so I think people should start arriving soon, ah- Fantasia! The world-hopper is back.

Fantasia ambles up to Lilia and waves at you. They have a leafy necklace on and a summer flower pinned to their eye patch.

Fantasia: Hello! Are you ready for the festival? We've been working hard to prepare, well Lilia especially. She's very excited about it.

Lilia: I'm a bit nervous about it now that it's so close, the anticipation might be getting to me. I hope nothing goes wrong, like Calbet knocking over the snack table or something.

  • a) Calbert wouldn’t waste snacks.
  • b) You worry too much, it’ll be great!

Lilia: You're right, and even accidents will eventually become funny anecdotes, right?

Fantasia: I agree, I have plenty of anecdotes from our first picnics together.

Lilia blushes and engages Fantasia in a lighthearted argument about their past outings. Before you know it, the festival grounds start to fill up with people meandering in. The pair run off to greet everyone and leave you to your own devices. You wander around the festival grounds listening in on various conversations, mostly about the challenges of preparing for the harvest and staying hydrated in the summer heat. A familiar voice is booming nearby about the best farming tools and you turn to see the Old Farmhand with a group of local farmers all nodding along. Bearnard appears to be dozing off on a stool by the play pools. Before you can make your way over however, a slap on your shoulder makes you turn around.

  • a) Oh, hey Calbet.
  • b) You startled me.

Calbet: World-hopper! You're here too, huh? I heard about all the free snacks and fun, there's no way I would miss a whole festival. I bet I'll be the best at that dart throwing game, you just wait.

Before you can respond, Calbet's ears perk up at something at the games area and he rushes through a quick goodbye.

Calbet: I'll see you later!! I need to go prove my coolness now! Those kids won't know what hit them!

As you watch him bound away, you notice Buli passing by with a turnip cake in hand.

  • a) Say hello to Buli.
    • Buli: World-hopper, I see you're here to look over your handiwork huh? I only came because you've been coming by and talking about it so often. These embers are somewhat interesting though. Did you cause them to flare like this?
    • [Short Event] You look around at the embers again, and wonder. Last you checked, world-hoppers didn't typically have the magic of fire at their disposal.
    • [Full Event] You look around at the embers again, and now that you think about it, they do seem to be brighter now than they were before Lilia and Fantasia asked you to help with the festival.
    • a) I guess I did do this, somehow?
    • b) Shrug.
    • Buli: Well, keep up the good work! Maybe you'll make something truly huge happen and then I'll have an additional thing to study. Now go pester someone else, I'm busy with this turnip cake!
    • Return to Lilia and Fantasia.
  • b) Return to Lilia and Fantasia.

You decide to make your way back to Lilia and Fantasia, stopping occasionally to admire the festival and let yourself get distracted by the merriment. The local tavern's bard troupe appears to have stationed themselves around the stage, performing merry little ditties and livening up the atmosphere. A few townsfolk from the outskirts of town even start dancing, with more people joining in. Dusk has fallen by now, but the festival is lit well by the twinkling embers, which are burning as brightly as ever. Suspended in the air, they look like tiny lanterns amid all of the ribbons and decor. You notice Lilia quietly seated on a stool by the refreshment stand, sipping a cup of cider.

  • a) Hey, how are you holding up?
  • b) The festival is going well, huh?

Lilia: Everything's great! I'm glad everyone's having fun.

Lilia beams at you, then hesitates before continuing.

Lilia: Do you know where I got the idea for this festival? I actually read about it in a book. Well, I mean I read about a deity of flame that can manifest in the form of embers every year in the summer time. You know, as a child I always thought these fairytales were just stories, but these embers are real aren't they? I haven't ever seen them appear like this, even during the hottest months of my childhood. I thought to myself at the time, this must be a sign. The deity of flame is known for her warmth and vibrancy, I thought that perhaps it's telling me that I should do something for this town and its people, or something like that. I decorated the festival with a flame motif using all your parchment too, I really tried my best, haha. Well, are you ready for the main event?

  • a) What main event?
  • b) You mean there’s more?

Lilia: Ah, I may have gotten ahead of myself and forgotten to tell you. I read about a lovely sounding celebration in the book about the fire deity, and the highlight of the event was a fire dance!

You watch Lilia's eyes light up as she describes the dance to you.

Lilia: There are instructions and drawings in the book on how to do it, and they look interestingly similar to my lance practice techniques! I figured that since I'm already practiced at this, I could do this fire dance as the highlight of our little festival here. What do you think?

  • a) That sounds amazing.
  • b) I’m sure you’ll do great.
  • b) Nod noncommittally.

Lilia: I was also wondering if you would be willing to do one last bit of world-hopper magic? The embers seem to grow especially bright for a short time after this occurs, so it would be really lovely if you could do it in preparation for my dance.

[Short Event] Lilia: I absolutely understand if you don't want to though, if you'd rather just have fun first.

[Full Event] Lilia: I absolutely understand if you don't want to though, I've already asked for so much of your help...

  • a) I can do some item alchemy to help you.
    • Lilia: Thank you so much, this really means a lot.
    • Alchemize an item 3 times to brighten the embers for Lilia.
    • I'll be back.
      • When you return, Lilia appears to be getting ready behind the refreshment stall. Alchemize an item 3 times to brighten the embers for Lilia.
      • a) I’ve completed the item alchemies! (Alchemized 3/3 Times)
      • b) I’ll be back.
  • b) I think I can hatch a pet to power up the embers.
    • Lilia: Thank you so much, this really means a lot.
    • Hatch a pet to brighten the embers for Lilia.
    • I'll be back once I do.
      • When you return, Lilia appears to be getting ready behind the refreshment stall. Hatch a pet to brighten the embers for Lilia.
      • a) I’ve hatched a pet! (Hatched 1/1 Times)
      • b) I’ll be back.
  • c) I can alchemize a pet to help out!
    • Lilia: Thank you so much, this really means a lot.
    • Alchemize a pet once to brighten the embers for Lilia.
    • I'll be back once I do.
      • When you return, Lilia appears to be getting ready behind the refreshment stall. Alchemize a pet once to brighten the embers for Lilia.
      • a) I've alchemized a pet! (Alchemized 1/1 Times)
      • b) I'll be back once I do.
  • d) I’m a little busy right now actually. / Actually I'm still busy.
    • Lilia: I understand, please enjoy the festival. The night is long, so we'll wait here for when you're ready.
    • a) Leave.
      • Lilia is quietly conversing with Fantasia while watching the bard troupe play an especially comforting melody.
      • a) Leave.
      • b) I can help you now.
        • Lilia: Oh, are you sure? I hope I'm not keeping you from the festival.
    • b) Actually I can help you after all.
      • Lilia: Oh, are you sure? I hope I'm not keeping you from the festival.

Lilia: Thank you so much! I can see the embers getting brighter already, they look so lovely under the moonlight. Ah, this is my fire dance costume. I made it with Fantasia through trial and error, I hope it holds together well during the dance.

Lilia's costume is a silky red cloak and dress cut haphazardly into the shape of flames, sewn into layers over her armour. Despite the clumsy craftsmanship, it glitters in the ember light. Fantasia smiles at Lilia encouragingly as she makes her way up to the stage. You both watch in anticipation. Lilia steps up to the middle of the stage and motions to the bard troupe. They start to play a particularly festive and dramatic song. She strikes an opening pose, arm outstretched as if holding a lance or spear, and spins with a flourish. The dance begins. It does look remarkably like her usual lance training moves, except that the movements are timed well to the music. Her fiery costume fans out in waves, looking almost like real flames lit by the brightly glowing embers around her. The festival goers gradually gather to watch the performance as the song goes on. You notice Bearnard and Calbet in the crowd. Calbet is clapping along to the drums and Bearnard seems to finally be awake and alert. Fantasia is watching spellbound, their eyes glittering with a combination of pride and admiration. They're even making small movements with their hands and feet in time to Lilia's dancing. It seems like the two of them practiced it together. The song rises to a crescendo, with Lilia making a series of quick arm movements and leaping into the air in an arc. The embers appear to almost shiver in the air as they brighten around her.

Farmhand: Now, where did she learn that...?

You turn to see the Old Farmhand behind you, a look of consternation across his face as he looks on. Before you can ask what he means however, a bright light makes you look back to the stage. The embers around Lilia have suddenly grown in size and brightness to envelope the whole stage in a bright light, the glow intensifying until you can't make out what's happening on stage anymore. Lilia's form melts into the brightness. The crowd closest to the stage backs away, shielding their eyes. The bard troupe stops playing in confusion. The festival has broken out into a hubbub of chaos. Fantasia cries out in alarm.

Fantasia: Lilia...?! What's happened, are the embers..??

  • a) Rush to the stage with Fantasia.
  • b) Ask Farmhand what’s happening.
    • You turn around to ask the old Farmhand to explain himself, but you only see his back as he hurries off, muttering under his breath.
    • Rush to the stage with Fantasia.

Fantasia is stunned for a moment and then snaps out of it and starts hurriedly toward the stage. You follow close behind them, trying to squint past the intense light. The closer you get to the stage, the more the air feels thick, like wading through a resistant current. By the time you manage to get onto the stage, the air is so thick that you can barely breathe. Trying to see where Lilia should be feels like looking into the sun. Fantasia presses forward beside you, clearly in a state of desperation. Then you see her, sitting cross legged in a sphere of light, eyes closed, unaware of her surroundings. Fantasia tries to call out for her but no sound escapes their mouth. You find that there seems to be an invisible barrier surrounding Lilia, stopping the both of you in your tracks. Like a gust of hot wind, the current becomes too strong, and you're knocked back off the stage, landing on the soft grass. Fantasia is visibly shaken beside you.

  • a) Are you okay?
    • Fantasia: I'm...
    • Fantasia is staring in stunned silence, unable to articulate their thoughts. After a few moments, they turn their attention to you and faintly ask.
    • Fantasia: Are you okay...? We fell pretty far...
    • a) I’m okay.
      • Fantasia: That's good...
      • Fantasia answers distractedly, grappling with themself mentally now, making anguished sighs as they deliberate.
    • b) How about you, are you injured?
      • Fantasia: I-I'm fine, just a little shaken.
      • Fantasia is grappling with themself mentally now, making anguished sighs as they deliberate.
    • Fantasia: Lilia's... ...She's fine, she has to be.
  • b) What is that, what’s happened to Lilia?!
    • Fantasia: I don't...
    • Fantasia is staring in stunned silence, unable to articulate their thoughts. After a few moments, they turn their attention to you and faintly answer.
    • Fantasia: I don't know... have you ever seen anything like this?
    • a) Not that I know of.
    • b) I'm not sure...
    • Fantasia: Louise Hill is the last place I'd think magic would happen, and to Lilia at that...!
    • Fantasia is grappling with themself mentally now, making anguished sighs as they deliberate.
  • a) Wait and let them work through it.
  • b) Watch the stage for any sign of movement.

You wait patiently for Fantasia to work through the initial shock. After a few minutes, they get back on their feet and help you up. Their expression is filled with a quiet resolve.

Fantasia: World-hopper, I'm going to find out what this is all about. I hope you'll join me.

  • a) Of course I’ll join you.
  • b) I don’t have much confidence, but I’ll help.
  • c) Without hesitation, I feel responsible for all of this.

Fantasia: Thank you, I'm... glad you'll be by my side.

The festival begins to clear out as the confusion settles, the townsfolk are concerned and discussion surrounding the event bustles. After seeing the last of them go, you find Fantasia sitting as close to the stage as they can, deep in thought. Lilia's light has now converged into a more concentrated sphere, her form vaguely visible within it.

Fantasia: What do you think we should do now? I think we need to find out why this happened to understand how we can get Lilia back to normal.

  • a) I heard the Old Farmhand, I think he knows something.
    • Fantasia listens intently as you explain what the Old Farmhand asked just as the dance was ending, and how he hurriedly left afterwards.
    • Fantasia: That does sound like he might know something. I think most of us are aware or at least have a sneaking suspicion that the Old Farmhand is not just a regular farmhand, but to what extent has always been a mystery. Wait, before we go find him, I'll be right back. I just remembered something so I'd like to get it.
    • They dart off in the direction of their home, disappearing around a hill at top speed. After a few minutes, a slightly out of breath Fantasia returns with a curious book in hand.
    • Fantasia: I remember seeing Lilia reading this excitedly while preparing for the festival, I feel like it's connected somehow so I got it from her room just now. Now, Let's go pay the Old Farmhand a visit. Maybe we'll get some answers out of him.
    • Fantasia gives Lilia a lingering worried look before following you in the direction of the old tavern.
  • b) We should look at that book Lilia got inspiration from.
    • Fantasia: Oh, I think I remember seeing that, I'd recognize it if we found it. Let's check Lilia's lodge first.
    • Fantasia gives Lilia a lingering worried look before leading you towards the edge of their training grounds. Lilia's lodge is a quaint red brick farmhouse overlooking a small grove. Before you can decide whether to knock, Fantasia opens the door and makes a beeline to the far room, in which there's a small bookshelf. They search through the book titles, muttering and shaking their head. You turn to look around, there's a book on the bedside table with a fiery emblem drawn across the cover. Fantasia looks over and sees it as well.
    • Fantasia: Ah! That's it, I remember that cover.
    • They pick it up and carefully leaf through it.
    • Fantasia: I don't really get it, it looks like it's just a regular fairy tale book. It was published by the "School Council Trinity," whatever that means.
    • Mention the Old Farmhand’s reaction to the dance.
    • Fantasia listens intently as you explain what the Old Farmhand asked just as the event happened, and how he hurriedly left afterwards.
    • Fantasia: That sounds like a clue! I think most of us are aware or at least have a sneaking suspicion that the Old Farmhand is not just a regular farmhand, but to what extent has always been a mystery. Maybe he'll know something about this book.
    • Let's go pay him a visit!
    • Fantasia carefully pockets the book before following you in the direction of the old tavern.

The walk there is quick, you notice that the embers are still glowing in the air all around town. The innkeeper gives you directions to the Farmhand's room and you take the stairs up to an oaken door. Fantasia takes a deep breath and knocks on the door expectantly. Immediately from within the room you hear some crashing sounds, and then an odd ruffling. After a few moments of awkward silence, the door creaks open a small degree and you see the swish of a beard and blue eyes checking for who's knocking.

Old Farmhand: Oh, world-hopper! Fantasia, too. What brings the two of you here on an unannounced visit to my humble abode?

Fantasia: I would like to request any information you might have on what happened to Lilia at the festival. I've never seen anything like it before and she's stuck like that currently. I'm sure you can see why this is an emergency.

Fantasia looks the Old Farmhand in the eye, pressuring him noticeably. The Old Farmhand shuffles slightly in his robes, looking vaguely fidgety.

Old Farmhand: I'm not entirely sure why I specifically would have uh, information... on this... event, but I do wish to help where I can. Do you know, ahem, where Lilia came up with this dance and festival idea? Specifically... those movements. I may have possibly seen them somewhere before.

  • a) She told me she read about it in a book.

Fantasia: She was reading this book and drew inspiration from it for the festival.

The Old Farmhand takes the book and flips through it page by page.

Old Farmhand: So this is Ingi's Manifestation. Where's the other half, Ingi's Renewal? I believe that the movements in Lilia's dancing harkened to the first book. Perhaps your answers lie in the second.

  • a) What other half?
  • b) There was only this one book.

Old Farmhand: Odd, this is part one of a duology. Since Lilia based her dance and the festival off of the first volume, perhaps your answers lie in the second. Alas, it is not in my possession.

Fantasia: Do you know who might have Ingi's Renewal then? If it's a fairytale book, maybe the library...?

Old Farmhand: Unfortunately, these books are rather rare, especially Ingi's Renewal. Most would consider them antiques or collector's relics. I'm not sure where Lilia got her book from, but if she doesn't have the second one, you may need to travel out of town to find it.

Fantasia deflates in agitation at this news. You quickly ask a question.

  • a) Where would we need to travel?
  • b) How far do we need to go?

Old Farmhand: That answer varies, there are a small number of individuals I can think of who may collect books of this kind. Let me think... ah, if considering ease of travel, I would suggest visiting Peddler's Port. A collector should live there, Agnes I believe is what she calls herself nowadays.

Fantasia: The port? Thank goodness, I was afraid you were going to say that we needed to go on a long journey to a far away land which would take years and require us to kill a dragon and just- Sorry. My mind went off on a stress tangent, but what I mean to say is that Lilia can't wait that long, so I'm glad that it's the port.

  • I agree, we should get going then.

Old Farmhand: Looks like it's settled then. While you youngsters are away, I'll be sure to keep an eye out for Lilia.

Fantasia: Thank you, if anything were to happen to her, I...

Old Farmhand: Not to worry, young Fantasia. From my years of experience, I'd say that she'll be just fine.

  • Head to Peddler’s Port with Fantasia.

Speak With Agnes
Description "You travel through the night with Fantasia to Peddler's Port, in search of the second book."
Full Transcript

You and Fantasia waste no time in setting off, stopping only briefly by the tavern kitchen for some wrapped bread. Traveling by night, you manage to hail a carriage full of peddlers on their way to the Port. Fantasia is quiet nearly the whole time, worry keeping their thoughts occupied. Leaving Louise Hill, you notice that there are no embers. They appear to have only congregated in the town and nowhere else. As the sun tentatively reaches out with a warm dawn glow, the carriage arrives at the bustling Peddler's Port, its colourful flags rippling in the morning breeze.

  • a) I know where to find Agnes!
    • Fantasia: Thank you, it's been years since I've been here, I'm not sure if I'd recognize how to find anything. The Port is a place of frequent change.
  • b) Shall we look around first?
    • Fantasia: I'd like to find this Agnes first, if you don't mind. We'll have plenty of time to sight see another day.

You lead Fantasia to the familiar clearing with Agnes and her family's lavish goods display. Agnes is seated in an old rocking chair, dozing off in the morning sunlight with a half finished length of knitting in her hands and a cup of coffee next to her.

  • a) Hello, Agnes.
  • b) Clear your throat.
  • c) Nudge her awake.

Agnes: ...Oh, good morning! Please excuse my dozing, I've always had a difficult time getting up right at dawn. I see you've brought a friend? Hello there.

Fantasia: Hello Agnes. I heard about how to find you from an old wiz- an Old Farmhand living in Louise Hill. We're here to find a book, Ingi's Renewal.

Fantasia quickly explains the festival and Lilia's situation as clearly as they can. Agnes listens intently.

Agnes: Oh, dear. Louise Hill you say? Quite a peaceful old farming town normally. It sounds like a rather unfortunate magical pickle she's gotten herself into, I'll certainly try to help if I can. Pai! Oran?

A moment passes, and a slightly sleepy looking Pai pokes their head out from a nearby tent.

Pai: What's happened? It's so early in the morning...

Agnes and Fantasia explain the situation to Pai and they tilt their head, perusing their thoughts.

Pai: An odd magical event. I'll need to look through my stored wares, occasionally I find things during my travels unsuitable for sale. This book, it sounds familiar... I'll be back later.

Pai swiftly disappears around the corner, walking with great purpose. Oran arrives in the clearing soon after Pai's departure, a slice of toasted jam bread in his hand.

  • Describe the festival events to Oran.

Oran: Wow, that sounds pretty crazy. So she's just frozen like that still? Oh boy, you must be worried. You know, now that you mention it, these "embers" sound like a phenomenon I've heard about before. Where was it...? Ah! It was a different town, quite far away from here. Required a rough stretch of climbing as well. People said that it had floating embers just like what you were describing, or at least I think they did, seasonally or something. I never heard about any festivals there ending in someone getting stuck in a ball of light though.

Fantasia: Did that town have a similar festival? Was it anything like this?

They show Oran the book, flipping to the description of the deity and the fire dance.

Oran: Ingi's Manifestation huh? Interesting... Ingi is a deity of summer, I think it's said that she's a deity of life, vibrancy and rebirth. I can see why a town might celebrate her during the month she's in power.

Before Fantasia can ask more questions, Pai re-emerges from around the corner, carrying an ornate book with a similar design to Ingi's Manifestation.

Pai: Here it is, I've found it. First edition of Ingi's Renewal. I'll need a treasure of yours as payment for it though, such is the way of business.

Agnes: Pai my dear! Sometimes I wonder if you've been taught the ways of business too well.

Fantasia: I understand, it's only to be expected. I'm not sure if I have anything you would value, however.

Pai: Well, what about you world-hopper? I'm sure you're rather well traveled.

Help Fantasia acquire the book by giving Pai a treasured item in exchange.

  • a) Let me look through my treasures.
  • b) I’ll be back soon.
    • When you return, Fantasia is pacing restlessly by a tree as Agnes attempts to soothe them with a plate of biscuits.
    • Pai: You're back? Do you have anything you'll trade for the book?

Pai: Thank you, this will do just fine. I apologize for my business manner, I know that this is a stressful time for you.

They present the book to Fantasia, who takes it carefully.

Pai: I do hope you find what you seek within that tome.

Oran and Agnes also wish the two of you good luck and a quick journey back to Louise Hill. Fantasia thanks them, hands gripping the book tightly.

  • Return to Louise Hill.

The trip back to Louise Hill is a steady walk. The sun winks away once in a while behind fluffy white clouds. Fantasia is still quiet, but a little more stable. After walking for a while, they look at you pensively, then back at the sky.

Fantasia: You know, Lilia and I met on a road not unlike this one. We weren't close immediately, I was like a different fox back in those days, and we clashed quite often. It's a wonder and a blessing in hindsight that circumstances kept us together, until we couldn't imagine being apart. After settling in Louise Hill, I finally let myself breathe again. I've been letting Lilia take the lead ever since then. It's always been her, proactively finding the way to the next adventure in our time together, and it's been wonderful. This time though, it was different. I felt like I was suddenly on my own again, and the fear took over for a while there. I'm sorry about that, I was even quieter than usual huh? I guess I went into crisis mode, but I'm okay now.

  • a) You’re not alone.
    • Fantasia manages a small smile.
  • b) There’s nothing to apologize for.
    • Fantasia: Then I'll just say thank you instead.
  • c) We all go into crisis mode sometimes.
    • Fantasia: I'd like to never return to it.

Without stopping for a rest, the two of you make your way back into Louise Hill, and then to the festival grounds. The decorations are still up, refreshments and games sitting around unfinished. As you make your way to the stage, you see that Lilia's sphere is still there, though it looks a little more stable and solid now. You also notice the Old Farmhand asleep at the table closest to the stage. Fantasia looks at him gratefully.

Fantasia: Farmhand, good morning. Thank you for looking out for Lilia.

The Old Farmhand jolts awake at the sudden voice.

Old Farmhand: Ah, youngsters. I see you've returned, and with the book no less! Lilia is safe, she hasn't moved but the sphere appears to be more stable than last night. Quick now, let us peruse the second volume!

Fantasia sits and carefully reads through the book, occasionally discussing the meaning behind a passage with you and the Farmhand. After going through all of it, Fantasia sits back to think about it.

Fantasia: The second book tells of a purpose to all of this. What Lilia prepared seemed to coincide with the Ingi Renewal ritual, which is normally done to restore a town's warmth and life. It seems to be especially useful for those struggling in the cold, both literally and figuratively.

Old Farmhand: It appears that the ritual is best completed when there are Ingi Manifestations- which are the embers, but can still be done without!

Fantasia: Since Lilia only had the first book, she completed just half of the ritual without knowing about the rest, which is why she got stuck in this state. The second tome calls for a beloved one to complete the dance in reverse in order to disperse the light. I... I suppose that'd be me.

Old Farmhand: I don't think there's anyone else who could do it.

  • a) You’re right.
  • b) Do you know the dance?

Fantasia: Luckily, I actually practiced the dance with Lilia for fun, so I know it well enough. It's also very similar to her lance practice routine for some reason, which is something I've watched a million times.

Fantasia turns and pauses, looking up Lilia.

Fantasia: I hope this works.

They run and hop onto the stage, the air around Lilia no longer looks as dense, and Fantasia is able to move. Despite there being no music now, they nimbly begin the dance to an invisible rhythm. The fire dance begins with Lilia's last move during the festival, a graceful leap arcing into the air. Fantasia's tail follows their movements, Lilia's light causing their red fur to glow like a great flame. They dance gracefully all around Lilia's sphere, causing their shadow across the stage to flit around as they move. The Farmhand looks on approvingly. You notice that the previously pristine glowing sphere around Lilia is now undulating, its surface shivering like a string that's been plucked. Fantasia does not stop, their movements rising in intensity like a crescendo. The sphere's shape is now unstable, with fiery tendrils reaching up, its colour becoming that of a deeper flame rather than a golden circle. Shadows begin to play across the back of the stage, shadows without a source. Fantasia continues to dance as if in a trance, soon they're almost enveloped in the expanding flame. The shadows begin to take on recognizable shapes. A bird, a collection of mountains, a flag in the wind. Your gaze is drawn unwaveringly to the shadows in the flames, a story unfolds before your eyes. A great roaring of embers fill your ears. The silhouette of a town rises, a storm is battering its walls, it’s perched on the peak of a mountain. The scene evaporates and changes into the inside of a room, the shadow of a girl is seated, labouring over tomes in the dark. The town is crumbling, a great calamity is shaking its very foundations, shadows of the townsfolk escape into the mountains, away from disaster. The storm abates, the world goes silent. Then, from the ruins of the town, long arms of flame erupt, bringing with it heat and life. The town appears to rise from the rubble, attracting the townsfolk back, who now sew flame sigils upon their clothing and banners. You're slowly released from the shadowy vision, and you see that the dark shapes are fading. The great shining light around Fantasia and Lilia trembles one more time, and expands outwards all at once, like a bubble of warmth. The warmth hits you like a soft warm summer, and expands out across the town, dissipating in the process. You look back at the stage to see Lilia and Fantasia sitting cross legged, facing each other with their hands clasped together. Lilia says something you can't hear and Fantasia smiles.

Old Farmhand: Bravo! You've done it! A successful Ingi Renewal, never thought I'd see one again in my life time!

The Old Farmhand claps jubilantly, and then seems to remember himself and clears his throat.

Old Farmhand: Ahem! I'll just take my leave now, I'm sure the town will be grateful for the renewed vibrancy and life. I'll see you around the farms, youngsters.

  • a) Take care, Farmhand.
  • b) Thank you for your help!
  • c) Wow, that was incredible.

You make your way to the stage where Lilia and Fantasia are sitting in a happy reverie.

Lilia: World-hopper! I'm sorry for putting you both through all that, and for missing the end of the festival, and...

Before she can finish her long list of apologies, Fantasia reaches out and pulls her into a deep hug.

  • a) Join the hug, the more the merrier.
    • You proceed to wrap your arms around the both of them, to their surprise. Lilia bursts out laughing, with Fantasia joining in soon after.
  • b) Let them have their moment.
    • Fantasia: I'm just glad you're back, I don't know what I'd do without you, Lilia.
    • Lilia: Right back at you.

You spend the rest of the afternoon helping Fantasia and Lilia clean up all of the festival decorations and finally sitting to have a picnic with the leftover refreshments. With Fantasia, you fill Lilia in on everything she missed, from the chaos to the book to the journey to Peddler's Port. She listens wide eyed with all the right reactions.

Lilia: Wow, so I just happened to set off a magical ritual? That sounds so improbable, also I wonder why my lance training moves are so close to the fire dance in that book.

Fantasia: Didn't you mention before that you learned your lance art from your family?

Lilia: Yeah, it was passed down through generations. What a funny coincidence, huh?

The conversation carries on, until Lilia and Fantasia both yawn simultaneously in the middle of a sentence. They burst out into a round of laughter at realizing how tired they are.

  • Take your leave.

You affectionately say your goodbyes, and watch the couple amble away arm in arm, back to their homes. The air is oddly refreshing, now that the warmth of the fire and embers seems to have faded. You wander around town, breathing in the crisp night air. It’s probably just your imagination but the town appears more vibrant somehow. Everywhere you go there are townsfolk going about their night with a joyful energy, not a complaint or grumble in sight.

Event Currency

Shimmering Embers were an event currency used in the event shop. They were account-bound, meaning that they could not be traded. They were removed from the player's inventory and storage at the end of the event.

Five Shimmering Embers could be used in Item Alchemy to achieve a random result.

Obtaining

Tasks and Points

The event hub could be found under the "Community" tab. To earn points, players could claim and finish tasks, which had different cooldown times after being performed. Each task gave a different amount of static points.

Player points were added together in order to fill a communal progress bar. If the bar were to be filled before the end of the event, a seasonal quest would be unlocked for the whole site, which would expand upon the seasonal story and lore. Additionally, new overtime goals and rewards would unlock. The unlockable quest was intended be changed after each year of successful completion (if the deadline is not met, the quest would not unlock that year). This mechanic has not been implemented in the years following the event's launch in 2020.

For the first few days, an additional new task appeared each day (for a total of eight different tasks). The event started off with three tasks.

"Hey, Lilia's been so busy with preparing for the festivities, I think she could really use your help getting some errands done. Would you mind helping her three times? Thank you."
Hatch a Pet! (Day 5) Hatch a pet once. 600 24 Hours "Lilia waves a hello to you and beams. "World-hopper! I know this might sound a bit unusual, but would you mind using your magic to animate a pet? I have a sneaking suspicion that your pet animating abilities may be why the embers in the air always shine brighter and glitter for a little longer wherever you go... it's an awfully beautiful sight! I was thinking that we could incorporate it into the festival to make everything feel extra magical! You can even bring your new friend along to the celebration - what do you say?"

2020 Event Conclusion

Summer Festivities banner featuring Lilia and Fantasia and the text reading 'Summer Festivities Success.'
World-hopper, we can’t thank you enough. You’ve helped us out so much in such a short time, we have more than enough supplies to entertain the whole town. I’m putting the finishing touches on the decor using all your parchment and silk ribbons, and we’re setting out all of the refreshments you brought at a dedicated stall. The embers are glowing brighter than ever, thanks to your world-hopping magic. We should have enough food to feed your herd of newly animated pets too, haha. I hope you’re ready for a lovely night, full of music and fun! Come and see me in Louise Hill when you’re ready...
