Trout is a turnip farmer residing in Three's Forest.
Because of his species, Trout is very small, yet unusually old for his kind. Most sprouts only live a few seasons, while Trout has lived for at least five and still feels young.
Background
Trout harvests turnips in Three's Forest. Due to the witches' clutter and fighting, his harvests have become small, which is problematic since he receives his life energy from the growth of his turnips. He wants to move out to Louise Hill, but he's torn: not only has he been in this part of Three's Forest his entire life, but he also feels that it's his duty to bring more sprouts into the world, and he isn't convinced that he'd be able to make the journey to Louise Hill.
Personality
Trout is a very anxious sprout. He's nervous about many things, including but not limited to: the encroaching forest growth caused by the fighting between the witches, his turnips and their growth, his size, his age, and his loneliness.
Relationships
Out of the three witches, he's the closest with Barclay (once Barclay begins to understand his farming struggles); however, he's friendliest with Magdalene, whom he semi-regularly asks for stories. He is also friendly with the world-hopper.
When he meets Cro, another sprout, he is overjoyed and amazed, and the two become close friends since they are - to their knowledge - the last two sprouts left in the forest.
Species
Sprouts are tiny, plant-like creatures who commonly indulge in farming. There used to be many sprouts in Three's Forest, until the witches came and scared them away with their fighting. When a sprout moves, they move with their whole farm, as it is hard for them to stay separated from it for long. Their lives are fairly short and they grow old after just a few summers. Trout confirms that the other sprouts left the forest in the direction of Silvie's Mine.

If you hadn't made everyone get along better, then the forest would've continued getting worse. But instead, 3's Forest recovers little by little every day! It's not a full recovery yet, but I think with your influence it'll only be a matter of time. Oh! I didn't tell you what I found! It was a turnip! A perfectly plump turnip!
